Chitosan oligosaccharide with an average degree of polymerization 2-3 was prepared by degradation reaction using sodium nitrite, and the resulting aldehyde group was reduced to hydroxy group. N-palmitoyl, O-palmitoyl chitosan oligosaccha was obtained from the reaction between palmitoyl chloride and oligosaccharide under DMAP catalyst. Alkaline hydrolysis was carried out to remove the O-palmitoyl group. After dispersion and ultrasonication in aqueous solution, N-palmitoyl chitosan oligosaccharide gives vesicle structure. Its structure and size was analyzed by TEM.
Effect of Butachlor(2-chloro-2, 6-diethyl N-(buthoxymethyl) acetanilide), Nitrofen(2,4-dichloro-4-nitrodiphenyl ether), Benthiocarb+Simetryne(s-(4-chlorobenzyl)-N, N-diethylthiocarbamate $7\%$+2-methylthio-4, 6-bis(ethylamino)-s-triazine $1.5\%)$, Propanil (3,4-dichloropropionanilide), and Perfluidone {1. 1. 1-trifluoro-N, N-(2-methyl-4-(phenylsulfonyl) Pheny1) methanesulfon amide} on urea hydrolysis and subsequent nitrification was investigated in a flooded soil incubated at $24\pm1^{\circ}C$ for 9 weeks. 1. Butachlor and Perfluidone at the rate of 1,440 and 1,200g, ai/10a, respectively, slightly inhibited the early stage of urea decomposition, and caused a slight decrease in the production of ammomium, which, however, was recovered readily. 2. Propanil at the rate of 2,800g, ai/10a imhibited the first stage of nitrification, and brought about a slight increase in the ammonium conentration and a decrease in the concentration of nitrite and nitrate. This inhibitive effect was a little more evident at higher concentration of applied nitrogen. The other herbicides caused no inhibition of urea decomposition and subsequent nitrification even at the highest rate of application. 3. pH and Eh of the soil were not significantly affected by the herbicides tested.
This study investigated the TNT decomposition by the treatment of alkaline hydrolysis. To obtain this objecitive, spectrum shift characteristics, pH effect, kinetics, and product analysis were examined during the alkaline hydrolysis by means of hydroxide ions. At pH = 12, an aqueous solution of TNT was changed into yellow-brown coloring, in which its absorbances were newly increased in a range of wavelength 400-600 nm. From the kinetic data, pseudo-first-order rate constant in a excess of hydroxide ion, in contrast to TNT concentration, was $0.0022min^{-1}$, which means that the reaction rate between TNT and hydroxide ion can be very slow, and that 1,047 min is necessary to achieve a 90% reduction of the initial TNT. In products analyses, nitrite ions and formic acid were mainly produced by the alkaline hydrolysis, nitrate ions and oxalic acid as minor products were generated.

Techniques were developed for holding and conditioning of Pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas, in a closed recirculating system. Experimental adults were used 500 oysters ( x two system, total 1,000 oysters) which were collected in $20^{th}$ March 2016 from long-line aquaculture farm at the south coast of Korea. During conditioning periods concentrated live microalgae as Isochrysis sp. $15{\times}10^7cells/mL$, Tetraselmis sp. $2{\times}10^7cells/mL$ and Pheaodactylum sp. $18{\times}10^7cells/mL$ were added 5 L every day, respectively which micro algae were functioned as diets and biological filter. Over all experimental periods total water exchange rate was 21.3% (daily 0.5%). Over 42 days conditioning, female and male oysters were maturated 90.9% and 94.4%, respectively. Survival rate was 98.7%. Mean shell hight (8.3 mm), total wet weight (19.2 g), meat wet weight (5.0 g) and shell wet weight (13.6 g) were significantly increased (P < 0.05). Water quality parameters including the water temperature ($22.1{\pm}0.4^{\circ}C$), salinity ($24.9{\pm}04$), dissolved oxygen (5.1-7.9 mg/L) and pH ($7.93{\pm}0.15$) were kept stable. Concentration of dissolved inorganic nutrient as ammonia (1.96-0.35 mg/L), nitrite (0.03-0.16 mg/L), nitrate (1.34-0.47 mg/L), DIP (0.42-0.03 mg/L) and silicate (3.83-0.00 mg/L) were significantly decreased throughout experiment except nitrite which was increased (P < 0.05), but nitrogenous components stayed below toxic levels (ammonia 0.0-5.5 mg/L, nitrite 0.0-460.0 mg/L) which indicated that closed recirculation system with microalgae based bio-filter could supply sufficiently environment condition to holding and conditioning of oyster.
Nitrosation of phenol (POH) was studied by adding hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite to phenol solution with reaction temperature and time change. The optimum condition of nitrosation was found from the effects of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time changes on the production of nitrosophenol (POHNO). As a result, it was found that the optimum conditions were $5.0{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}2.0{\times}10^{-3}M$ range of $NO{_2}^-$ concentration, more than 0.10 M of HCl concentration, temperature of $80^{\circ}C$, and 3 hrs. of reaction time. In this condition, 10 U.S. E.P.A. classified priority environmental pollutant, phenols, were nitrosated. Nitrosated phenols were: POH, 2-Chlorophenol (2ClPOH), 2,4-diChlorophenol (2ClPOH), 2,4-dimethylphenol (24diMPOH), and 4-Chloro -3-methylphenol (4Cl3MPOH), and a small part of 2-nitrophenol (2NPOH). The ${\lambda}_{max}$ values of nitrosated phenols in acidic solution were around 300 nm, and those in basic solution were around 400 nm. Molar absorptivities (${\varepsilon}$) at the 400 nm of the nitrosated phenols in the basic solution were 1.5~2.0 times larger than those at 300 nm in acidic solution. It was also found by Capillary-HPLC chromatograms of the nitrosated phenol solutions that the production of the nitrosophenols were interfered by the excess concentration of nitrite (more than $3.0{\times}10^{-3}M$).

This study investigates the effect of denitrified biofloc water on changes in the water quality parameters and the physiological characteristics of shrimps. Biofloc rearing water contains a large number of microorganisms and can rapidly stabilize the water quality and energy saving if reusable due to high water temperatures. Rearing water contain floating bacteria with both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Therefore, when the carbon source is added in limited air supply, the anaerobic state is activated and the denitrification process is possible. In this study, the denitrification water had the following properties: ammonia (6.9 mg L-1), nitrite (0.3 mg L-1), nitrate concentration (9.2 mg L-1), high pH (8.42) and alkalinity (590 mg L-1). The experimental group consisted of seawater (SW, control), a mixture of Seawater and denitrified biofloc water (DNW) in the ratio of 3:1, 1:1 and DNW only. All experiments were done in triplicate. As a result, the survival rate never changed even when 100% of the denitrification water was utilized. However, a body fluid analysis showed that creatine and BUN were increased due to index of stress and the tissue damage resulting from the high denitrified water content. Body fluid ions (Na+, K+, and Cl-) significantly decreased as the denitrified water content increased. It was recommended that the denitrification water be mixed with a certain ratio (less than 50%) in the future as it may affect the osmotic pressure control in shrimps.
Behavior of nutrients along the salinity gradients in the Seomjin River estuary was investigated in March July, September and November, 1999. Sampling sites were set based on the surface salinity during each cruise rather than geographic locations. The results suggest that source of nitrate and silicate was the Seomjin River discharge, while that of nitrite and phosphate was waste disposal from the Gwangynng Bay near the mouth of Seomjin River estuary. Ammonia was supplied inside the estuary at the region about $6\~8$ km far from Nancho Island. Strong removal behavior of some nutrient such as ammonia, phosphate and silicate was observed at $5\~15$ psu salinity area in November, where high concentrations of $chlorophyll\;a\;(>8{\mu}g/L$) occurred. High N : P ratios and entirely removal of phosphate at chlorophyll a peak region suggest that phosphate is the limiting factor for phytoplankton growth. Relatively high ratios of Rb to Ra (Rb: Fluorescence before acidification, Ra: Fluorescence after acidification) at $5\~15$ psu salinity region in November indicate that phytoplankton were in good physiological condition.
The Asan Bay, which has semi-diurnal tide with macro-tidal range, is affected by both freshwater discharge from the sluice gates in the sea dikes and tidal seawater inputs from the Yellow sea. Understanding water quality change in response to tides is important since tides can impact the short-term variations in physical and chemical water properties as well as the response of biological properties. The diel variations in water quality were seasonally investigated at 2 hour intervals from a fixed station in the Asan Bay. In the results, water temperature and salinity consistently fluctuated in phase or out of phase with tidal height. Especially salinity was positively correlated with tidal height. The concentrations of total suspended solids were higher in the bottom water than in the surface and fluctuated greatly over the tidal cycle recording higher values at low tide than at high tide. Nitrite+nitrate levels also fluctuated out of phase with tidal height and correlated negatively with tidal height. Other nutrients also showed a similar pattern. The pattern was distinct in July when freshwater was discharged before the field sampling. The concentrations of organic materials, total nitrogen and total phosphorus greatly fluctuated over the tidal cycle and were generally out of phase with tidal height. Most materials except particulate organic forms were correlated with salinity indicating that freshwater inputs were sources for the materials similarly to the dissolved inorganic nutrients. The results suggest that water quality (except dissolved oxygen and pH) and nutrients including organic materials was largely affected by tides in the Asan Bay.
The behavior of the biological water treatment process on start-up operation was evaluated in the integrated recirculating aquaculture system consisting of a double drain type rearing tank ($2.5 m^3$), a sedimentation tank, a floating bead filter, a foam separator and a rotating biological contactor. A system was stocked with nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at an initial rearing density of $2\%$ for 2 weeks for acclimated rotating biological contactor. The total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) level increased to $13.6 g/m^3$ on day 4 after adding feed and was decreased to $0.3 g/m^3$ on day 7. The total suspended solid was completely removed during overall experimental period.
These studies were carried out to investigate the effects of rice straw on microflora in relation to nitrogen metabolism in submerged soil. Rice plants were cultured in submerged soil to which rice straw was applied. In the submerged soil applied with rice straw the value of Eh lowered. pH was higher in the upper layer than in the lower. The content of iron(II) in submerged soil increased, while that of ammonium nitrogen decreased when rice straw was applied and nitrate-nitrogen was hardly detected during the rice cultivation period Under application of rice straw the number of denitrifying bacteria observed to increase at the early growing stage of rice plant and to decrease thereafter, and that of nitrate reducing bacteria increased at the late growing stage. The number of ammonium oxidizing bacteria and that of nitrite oxidizing bacteria decreased continually but the latter were rather sharply decreased.
