  • The foster care system is a social welfare service that supplements the functions of the family while enabling children, who cannot receive proper care from their biological parents, to receive the necessary protection under the plan within the prescribed period of time within a substitute or foster family. A large part of the emotional instability experienced by foster care children is interpersonal maladjustment. Low self-esteem leads to difficulty in forming social relationships due to negative interpersonal relationships. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of traditional dance programs on the foster children who live in Daejeon Metropolitan City. A comparison between the pre- and post-interpersonal scores showed that the scores were improved after the traditional dance program, and the children's intimacy formation and communication were also improved. The participants were less active at the beginning of the program, but became more interested and more active toward the middle of the program. The majority of the participants increased their degree of communication with the formation of intimacy toward the middle of the program, and their self-confidence improved in terms of their peer relationships. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of traditional dancing on the development of interpersonal relationships. In a subsequent study, a traditional dancing program consisting of various contents will be applied over a long period of time, which should provide them with the opportunity to improve their interpersonal skills. In addition, it is necessary to provide educational opportunities for helping foster children reduce their emotional instability with systemic and diverse traditional dance programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how a singing program using self-voice monitoring for children with cochlear implants (CI) influences on the intonation and the accuracy of pitch production. To verify and estimate the effectiveness, a program was conducted with participants of 7 prelingual CI users, whose aged between 4 years and 7 years. The program adopted three stages from the self-voice monitoring: Listen, Explore, and Reproduce (LER stage). All participants received 8 singing sessions over 8 weeks, including pre-test, intervention, and post-test. For the pre and post-test, participants' singing of an excerpt of a song "happy birthday" and speaking three assertive sentences and three interrogative sentences were recorded and analyzed in terms of the intonation slopes at the end of the sentences and the melodic contour. From the sentence speeches, we found that the intonation slopes of the interrogative sentences significantly improved as they showed similar patterns with that of the average normal hearing group. Also, in regard to singing, we observed that the melody contour had progressed, as well as the range of pitch production had extended. The positive result from the intervention indicates that the singing program was effective for children with CI to develop the intonation skill and accuracy of pitch production.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to provide evidence for a systematic analysis of occupational therapy evaluations and interventions for the activities of daily living of children and adolescents. Methods : The research period was from 2010 to September 2019. The articles were collected from the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) and Koreanstudies Information Service System (KISS) databases. The key words were 'pediatric occupational therapy & activities of daily living', 'pediatric occupational therapy & self care', 'pediatric occupational therapy & self management', 'pediatric occupational therapy & occupation', 'occupational therapy & eating', 'occupational therapy & AMPS (Assessment of Motor and Process Skills)', 'occupational therapy & WeeFIM (Functional Independence Measure for children'. Results : A total of 14 studies were analyzed, the qualitative level IV, V of the study was 72% of the total research. The diagnosis of participants included 50% intellectual disorder and 20% brain lesion, including cerebral palsy. The most frequently used method to assess the activities of daily living was Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). The most frequently used method to therapy was sensory integration therapy. The intervention effect of all studies was positive, however, the use of group programs on the occupational therapy on children with intellectually disorder didn't work. Conclusion : In Korea, there are no articles that systematically analyze whether occupational therapy improves the activities of daily living in children and adolescents.

  • The current study investigated whether in-group bias affects 5- to 6-year-old children's resource-allocation decisions. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to allocate 10 stickers between a friend (an in-group member) and a stranger (an out-group member). Children allocated significantly more stickers to friends than to strangers, suggesting that they made distributive decisions in favor of their in-group members, when they were not the beneficiary of a resource-allocation. In Experiment 2, we examined whether being one of the recipients in the resource-allocation game would affect children's decisions. The procedure was identical to that of Experiment 1 except that participants were asked to allocate stickers between themselves and a friend or a stranger. The children showed selfish distributions regardless of recipients. These results indicate that when children become one of the recipients in a resource-allocation, their self-interests override their preference for in-group members.

Care staffs were reluctant to carry out inclusive education. They felt guilty due to not enough care either for disabled or non-disabled children in the process of adapting to inclusive education. They were calling for immediate communication channels to get the necessary support on time. They also recognized needs for professional education for care staffs regarding care of disabled children, and to dispatch special education teachers. It was found that all participants in the study disagreed on three-shift policy. Lastly, the support measures according to the multifaceted aspects of inclusive care in residential child care facilities were discussed.
