  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of decentering and self-silencing in a relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. We predicted self-silencing would function as a mediator in this relationship, and that decentering would moderate this mediation effect. To investigate this aim, three hundred seven university students were surveyed. All variables showed statistically significant correlations, and there was no statistically significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. Conversely, this study showed that there was a significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between self-silencing and social anxiety. In addition, socially prescribed perfectionism affected social anxiety through self-silencing, and decentering moderated the mediating effect of self-silencing. Implications and potential follow-up studies are discussed.

  • This study examined the relationships among body perception, anxiety, psychological flexibility, and abnormal eating habits of college students. Data was collected through a self reported structured questionnaire from 289 Korean college students using convenient sampling methods from April 20 to June 30, 2013. Multiple linear regression revealed the subjective body perception (${\beta}$=0.28, p<.001), ideal body image (${\beta}$=-0.15, p=.004), anxiety (${\beta}$=0.21, p<.001), and psychological flexibility (${\beta}$=-0.13, p=.032) to be significant predictors of abnormal eating habits of college students. These variables accounted for 26% of abnormal eating habits (F=17.42, p<.001). Therefore, as a strategy for reducing abnormal eating habits, therapeutic nursing intervention will be needed to improve the psychological flexibility and control anxiety as well as correct the distorted body perception.

  • This paper aims to search existential phenomena of today's anxiety and reveal philosophical grounds in the diagnosis and therapy of the anxiety. In special, this writer intends to look into the source of anxiety through a psychological dimension and a ethical dimension and lay an emphasis on the philosophical grounds as a psychological phenomenon. For this, the anxiety is revealed as 'between-mood(Zwischenstimmung)' accompanied by the moment between split and integration of existence as between-being(Zwischesein)' of possibility and reality. My attention on 'betweenness(Zwischeheit)' which existence contains as the ground of anxiety is described by $S{\ddot{o}}ren$ Kierkegaard in the concept of synthesis but his concept of synthesis as 'the relation between two things' has not been fully noted even owing to the term of synthesis. This writer catches more intensive conditions which the existence concept has through the illumination as to betweenness(Zwischenheit). So this writer takes note of the process of tension between both sides instead of the result of the synthesis of both divided sides. For this objective this writer intends to analyze Concept of Anxiety(Der Begriff Angst) of $S{\ddot{o}}ren$ Kierkegaard, Pioneer of existential philosophy.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of life in hemodialysis patients and compare it with those of depression or anxiety patients. Methods: Quality of life in hemodialysis patients(n=33) and depression or anxiety patients(n=34) was evaluated. we performed Korean Version of WHO Quality of Life Scale Abbreviated Version(WHOQOL-BREF), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), State-Trait Anxiety inventory(STAI) to both hemodialysis patients and depression or anxiety patients. Results: The WHOQOL mean scores showed no differences between hemodialysis patients and depression or anxiety patients. Among WHOQOL domains, psychological domain score of WHOQOL was significantly higher in hemodialysis patients than in depression or anxiety patients. Anxiety score of hemodialysis patients was significantly lower than that of depression or anxiety patients, while depression score showed no difference. Conclusion: These results show that psychological domain score of WHOQOL was higher and anxiety score was lower in hemodialysis patients than in depression or anxiety patients. However, there were no significant differences in total QOL and depression between hemodialysis patients and depression or anxiety patients, and the prevalences of depression and anxiety were higher in hemodialysis patients than those of general population. This suggest that hemodialysis patients need more specialized help for psychiatric problems.
