The purpose of this study was to investigate the question that Leisure Phenomenon was studied focus on specific Leisure activity contents such as physical, tour science, though it is an important subject to explore as psychological and cultural. Also it suggested that what was the problem of established studies and what was the directions for future study. Concrete study problem was assumed three issues. (1)General state of leisure activity and leisure motivation in Korea, (2)The correlated relation between each motivation and self-efficacy and (3)The correlated relation between each motivation and Subjective well-being?. Through this, we conducted three results. Frist, the leisure motivation scale was factor analyzed and consequently 2 factors which can be considered as leisure motivation were prescribed. Also through the responded data, leisure activity of university students showed much more passive activity(e.g.,reading, listening music, movie, watching TV, Internet surfing etc.) than positive and physically activity. Second, each motivation was not significant in self-efficacy. Finally, among the motivation, especially emotion and psychological rest motivation was significant in the subjective wellbeing. These findings imply that general understanding about leisure phenomenon can different as the cultural thinking of leisure activity and leisure motivation.

  • This study explored the moderating effects of social supports (family support, home friends support, foreign friends support) and cultural identity (home identity, foreign identity) on the relationships of reverse culture shock and subjective well-being. Participants were 157 returnees who left home-country prior to the age of 19 and resided in the foreign-country for more than three years. The results of hierarchical regression analyses on two-way interaction effect between reverse culture shock and each hypothesized moderator (e.g., family support, home friends support, foreign friends support, home identity, foreign identity) indicated that reverse cultural shock and subjective well-being was negatively related and their relationship was moderated only by family support. Specifically, the relationship between reverse culture shock and subjective well-being was weaker when the level of family support was higher. Subsequently, three-way interaction among reverse culture shock, one of the social support factors, and one of the cultural identity factors was investigated using hierarchical regression analyses. The results showed that the three-way interaction among reverse culture shock, family support, and home identity was significant. The slope difference tests yielded that the relationship between reverse culture shock and subjective well-being was stronger when both levels of family support and home identity were lower compared to when either level of family support or home identity was higher. These results imply that environmental factors such as family support and intrapsychic factor such as home identity might function as a buffer against the negative consequences of reverse culture shock experience.

  • This study investigated the effects of education for the elderly on their psychological well-being. Loneliness(negative state of emotion) and life satisfaction(positive state of emotion) were compared between participants and non-participants of educational programs for the elderly in order to learn whether participating educational programs influences their psychological well-being. The subjects of this research were 288(146 participants and 142 non participants) elderly who are 60 years and older, living in Seoul City and Gyeong Gi Do. They were selected by the judgmental sampling method and surveyed using structured questionnaire. Research instruments were consisted of the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Life Satisfaction Index-Z Scale(LSIZ) and several background questions. The result showed that the participants of the educational programs had a lower level of loneliness and a higher level of life satisfaction. The educational program for the elderly was effective for the psychological well-being of the aged. Multiple regression results showed that subjective health played the most important role in explaining the loneliness, followed by education level, elderly education participation, financial states. The results also showed that subjective health played the most important role in explaining the life satisfaction, followed by elderly education participation, religious activity participation, financial status. Implications for policy, practice, and further research were discussed.

  • This study examined the patterns of coping strategies among Koreans during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, explored the influence of demographic information (gender, age, economic level, household type), along with the unusual experiences due to COVID-19 (fear, stress of COVID, constraints of routine, income risk) on the classification of subclasses, and analyzed the latent profile differences in psychological wellbeing (life satisfaction, depression, and anxiety). An online survey was conducted among Korean Adults(n=600) between April 13, 2020 and 21, when WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic and Daegu as well as Gyeongsangbuk-do was nominated as a special disaster zone. First, Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) was used to identify subclasses of coping strategies and results suggested that the 4-class model had the best fit. Second, Class memberships were predicted by gender, age, economic level, as well as fear, stress, constraints of routine, and income risk, among the unusual experiences due to COVID-19. Finally, there are differences in psychological wellbeing among latent profiles. 'High level of adaptive coping group 3' showed the highest level of life satisfaction, 'Adaptive-maladaptive coping group 4' showed the highest level of depression, anxiety. Implications and suggestions are discussed based on the study results.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of distress tolerance on subjective well-being and the mediating effect of experiential avoidance in the relationship between distress tolerance and subjective well-being. We conducted an online survey a total of 285 normal adults in the nation from October 21 to 24, 2015. The questionnaire was composed of a distress intolerance index, a concise measure of subjective well-being, and acceptance action questionnaire. And questionnaires were distributed and retrived by an online survey company. Collected data has been analyzed by the structural equation modeling. The correlation analysis showed that distress tolerance was positively correlated with subjective well-being, while negatively with experiential avoidance. Also, the verification of mediating effects of experiential avoidance in the relation between distress tolerance and subjective well-being indicated that experiential avoidance partly mediated the relationship at a meaningful level. Additionally, deflection correction bootstrap analysis was used to verify indirect effects and its results revealed that the mediating effect going from distress tolerance to subjective well-being passing through experiential avoidance was statistically significant. That is, distress tolerance not only influences subjective well-being directly but also influences indirectly through experiential avoidance. Finally, significance and limitations of this study were discussed along with the suggestions for further research.

  • As the interest in the positive quality of life is increasing throughout the world, the number of people who are suffering from negative sentiments, such as depression, anxiety, or stress, is increasing, as well. Especially, the adolescence period is the period of transition from childhood to adulthood and accompanies significant changes in terms of the body and mind alike. The purpose of this study is to examine the negative sentiment of the juveniles, caused by the stress they experience in their social and personal domains and the distress tolerance that can protect the inner feelings of them at the same time, to understand how they are related to the subjective well-being of the juveniles. For this study, the researcher employed the data from 362 high school students from the high schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, which were analyzed using the statistics suites SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. According to the findings of this study, first, the depression and anxiety of the adolescent population showed a significant relationship for each variable with regard to the distress tolerance and the subjective well-being. Especially, the negative correlation with the subjective well-being was highly significant. Second, the depression and anxiety of the juveniles turned out to influence the distress tolerance and subjective well-being of them in a negative manner. In both distress tolerance and subjective well-being, the influence of anxiety was higher than that of depression. Third, in the relationship between depression, anxiety, and subjective well-being, the distress tolerance turned out to have a mediating effect. Such results of this study provided the basic data for suggesting the strategies to promote the perceived psychological well-being and help the juveniles who are under stress.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effects of middle school students' participation in after-school sports on psychological well-being. A survey was conducted on 280 students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades attending two middle schools in Gongju-si, Chungnam, for one month from September 8 to October 17, 2019. The scale developed by Ryff (1995) was used to measure psychological stability. Subfactors including self-acceptance (6 questions), positive interpersonal relationships (5 questions), autonomy (6 questions), environmental control (5 questions), purpose of life (5 questions), and personal growth (5 questions) comprised a total of 32 questions measured on the Likert 5-point scale. The internal fit score (Cronbach's alpha) was .76-.83, with 146 students (52.1%) participating in after-school sports activities. The effect was high in the participant group. All variables, including the six subfactors, were verified statistically. These findings are consistent with the studies of Kang Myung-hwa (2011) and Kim Pan-su (2012), which reported that the sports activities of middle school students directly affect the development of emotions. This study verified the need to strengthen after-school sports activities and to engage problem children. After-school sports activities should be reviewed in the context of social issues that are becoming increasingly serious.

  • Previous studies have examined the relationship between domain satisfaction and life satisfaction. However, a comprehensive investigation of satisfaction with multiple domains and their relative contributions to life satisfaction and hedonic balance are missing in the literature. And most studies were conducted in English speaking countries and only a few cross-cultural studies have been conducted. In the current research, we compared Korean and European Canadian university students to examine how domain satisfactions (satisfaction with healthy lifestyles, family relationships, appearance, financial situation, academic performance) are associated with life satisfaction and hedonic balance. We then examined the relative contributions of people's satisfaction ratings on the life domains to their life satisfaction and hedonic balance. Positive correlations were observed between satisfaction with each of the five life domains, and life satisfaction and hedonic balance across the two cultural groups. Interestingly, satisfactions with healthy lifestyles was the dominant predictor of Koreans' life satisfaction and hedonic balance. Satisfaction with appearance was the dominant predictor of European Canadians' life satisfaction and hedonic balance followed by satisfaction with healthy lifestyles. Overall, these results suggest that there are common life domains that contribute to subjective well-being and that there are specific life domains that may contribute more to subjective well-being depending on the culture.
