Plant Information Processing System (PIPS)을 위한 데이타베이스 설계

  • PIPS (Plant Information Processing System)은 발전소 입력신호를 이용하여 운전원에게 체계적인 정보를 제공하여 발전소를 안전하고 효율적으로 운전하도록 지원하는 발전소 감시 및 운전원 지원 시스템이다. UNIX 운영체제 및 workstation 상에 설계된 PIPS는 실시간 처리를 위한 kernel로 RTAP/Plus를 사용하였으며, SL-GMS를 이용하여 GUI (Graphical User Interface)를 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 계층적 구조를 갖는 데이타베이스 관리 시스템을 이용하여 개발된 PIPS 데이타베이스의 특성 및 구조에 관하여 설명한다. 또한, point name을 이용하여 계층적 구조를 구축하는 소프트웨어를 개발하여 울진 3&4호기 설계 자료로부터 데이타베이스를 구축하였다. 이 시스템은 HP 715/100 workstation과 HP-UX 9.05 운영체제 개발환경에서 개발되었다.

An Interconnection Method for Streaming Framework and Multimedia Database (스트리밍 프레임워크와 멀티미디어 데이타베이스와의 연동기법)

  • This paper describes on our experience of developing the Database Connector as an interconnection method between multimedia database, and the streaming framework. It is possible to support diverse and mature multimedia database services such as retrieval and join operation during the streaming if an interconnection method is provided in between streaming system and multimedia databases. The currently available interconnection schemes, however have mainly used the file systems or the relational databases that are Implemented with separated form of meta data, which deafs with information of multimedia contents, and streaming data which deals with multimedia data itself. Consequently, existing interconnection mechanisms could not come up with many virtues of multimedia database services during the streaming operation. In order to resolve these drawbacks, we propose a novel scheme for an interconnection between streaming framework and multimedia database, called the Inter-Process Communication (IPC) based Database connector, under the assumption that two systems are located in a same host. We define four transaction primitives; Read, Write, Find, Play, as well as define the interface for transactions that are implemented based on the plug-in, which in consequence can extend to other multimedia databases that will come for some later years. Our simulation study show that performance of the proposed IPC based interconnection scheme is not much far behind compared with that of file systems.

A Freezing Method for Concurrence Control in Secure Real-Time Database Systems (실시간 보안 데이타베이스 시스템에서 병행수행 제어를 위한 얼림 기법)

  • Database systems for real-time applications must satisfy timing constraints associated with transactions. Typically, a timing constraint is expressed in the form of a deadline and is represented as a priority to be used by schedulers. Recently, security has become another important issue in many real-time applications. In many systems, sensitive information is shared by multiple users with different levees of security clearance. As more advanced database systems are being used in applications that need to support timeliness while managing sensitive information, there is an urgent need to develop concurrency control protocols in transaction management that satisfy both timing and security requirements. In this paper, we propose two concurrence control protocols that ensure both security and real-time requirements. The proposed protocols are primarily based on multiversion locking. However, in order to satisfy timing constraint and security requirements, a new method, called the FREEZE, is proposed. In addition, we show that our protocols work correctly and they provide a higher degree of concurrency than existing multiversion protocols. We Present several examples to illustrate the behavior of our protocols, along with performance comparisons with other protocols. The simulation results show that the proposed protocols can achieve significant performance improvement.

One-Snapshot Algorithm for Secure Transaction Management in Electronic Stock Trading Systems (전자 주식 매매 시스템에서의 보안 트랜잭션 관리를 위한 단일 스냅샷 알고리즘)

  • Recent development of electronic commerce enables the use of Electronic Stock Trading Systems(ESTS) to be expanded. In ESTS, information with various sensitivity levels is shared by multiple users with mutually different clearance levels. Therefore, it is necessary to use Multilevel Secure Database Management Systems(MLS/DBMSs) in controlling concurrent execution among multiple transactions. In ESTS, not only analytical OLAP transactions, but also mission critical OLTP transactions are executed concurrently, which causes it difficult to adapt traditional secure transaction management schemes to ESTS environments. In this paper, we propose Secure One Snapshot(SOS) protocol that is devised for Secure Transaction Management in ESTS. By maintaining additional one snapshot as well as working database SOS blocks covert-channel efficiently, enables various real-time transaction management schemes to be adapted with ease, and reduces the length of waiting queue being managed to maintain freshness of data by utilizing the characteristics of less strict correctness criteria. In this paper, we introduce the process of SOS protocol with some examples, and then analyze correctness of devised protocol.

Performance Evaluation of Real-Time Transaction Processing in a Shared Disk Cluster (공유 디스크 클러스터에서 실시간 트랜잭션 처리의 성능 평가)

  • A shared disks (SD) cluster couples multiple computing nodes, and every node shares a common database at the disk level. A great deal of research indicates that the SD cluster is suitable to high performance transaction processing, but the aggregation of SD cluster with real-time processing has not been investigated at all. A real-time transaction has not only ACID properties of traditional transactions but also time constraints. By adopting cluster technology, the real-time services will be highly available and can exploit inter-node parallelism. In this paper, we first develop an experiment model of an SD-based real-time database system (SD-RTDBS). Then we investigate the feasibility of real-time transaction processing in the SD cluster using the experiment model. We also evaluate the cross effect of real-time transaction processing algorithms and SD cluster algorithms under a wide variety of database workloads.

A Distributed Real-time Self-Diagnosis System for Processing Large Amounts of Log Data (대용량 로그 데이터 처리를 위한 분산 실시간 자가 진단 시스템)

  • Distributed computing helps to efficiently store and process large data on a cluster of multiple machines. The performance of distributed computing is greatly influenced depending on the state of the servers constituting the distributed system. In this paper, we propose a self-diagnosis system that collects log data in a distributed system, detects anomalies and visualizes the results in real time. First, we divide the self-diagnosis process into five stages: collecting, delivering, analyzing, storing, and visualizing stages. Next, we design a real-time self-diagnosis system that meets the goals of real-time, scalability, and high availability. The proposed system is based on Apache Flume, Apache Kafka, and Apache Storm, which are representative real-time distributed techniques. In addition, we use simple but effective moving average and 3-sigma based anomaly detection technique to minimize the delay of log data processing during the self-diagnosis process. Through the results of this paper, we can construct a distributed real-time self-diagnosis solution that can diagnose server status in real time in a complicated distributed system.

  • Multimedia scenario database system is a read-only multimedia-on-demand system which transfers scenarios representing the display ordering of multimedia objects. A scenario is a graph of multimedia objects and it contains spatial, temporal and contextual information of multimedia data. By structuring multimedia objects as a scenario, it is possible to enforce their display order based on their context. Furthermore, it can provide multiple display paths as well as the sharing of objects between different scenarios. As a result, the multimedia scenario database system can perform the pre-scheduling of multimedia objects, which makes it possible to reorder the transmission order of objects in a scenario. Consequently, the overall system resource such as data buffer and network bandwidth can be highly utilized. In this paper, we discuss the requirements of structuring a scenario to design a scenario database that stores and manages multimedia scenario. Furthermore, we devise and analyze several scheduling policies based on the reordering mechanism for the objects in a scenario.

Conference Managing System Design for Real-time Distributed Groupware System (실시간 분산 그룹웨어 시스템을 위한 회의 관리 설계)

  • 영상회의 시스템과 같이 그룹의 멤버들이 서로 다른 지점에 위치하면서 실시간으로 대화하는 시스템을 실시간 분산 그룹웨어 시스템(real-time distributed groupware system)으로 정의한다. 회의 관리는 영상회의를 원하는 사용자가 네트웍 상에서 현재 열리고 있는 회의세션을 검색하거나, 새로운 회의세션을 생성하여 영상회의를 시작시키거나, 앞으로 열릴 회의세션을 예약하거나 등의 서비스를 제공한다. 여기서 회의세션의 의미는 분산된 시스템들과 그 시스템의 사용자들이 하나의 그룹을 형성하고, 그룹내에서 클라이언트와 서버 형식의 상호작용을 하도록 하는 연결 고리로 정의한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 서비스를 제공하는 회의 관리구조를 설계하였고, 앞으로 구현 및 확장을 할 예정이다.

A Disk Group Commit Protocol for Main-Memory Database Systems (주기억 장치 데이타베이스 시스템을 위한 디스크 그룹 완료 프로토콜)

  • Main-Memory DataBase(MMDB) system where all the data reside on the main memory shows tremendous performance boost since it does not need any disk access during the transaction processing. Since MMDB still needs disk logging for transaction commit, it has become another bottleneck for the transaction throughput and the commit protocol should be examined carefully. There have been several attempts to reduce the logging overhead. The pre-commit and group commit are two well known techniques which do not require additional hardware. However, there has not been any research to analyze their effect on MMDB system. In this paper, we identify the possibility of deadlock resulting from the group commit and propose the disk group commit protocol which can be readily deployed. Using extensive simulation, we have shown that the group commit is effective on improving the MMDB transaction performance and the proposed disk group commit almost always outperform carefully tuned group commit. Also, we note that the pre-commit does not have any effect when used alone but shows some improvement if used in conjunction with the group commit.

Design and Implementation of Transport and Session Managers in a Multimedia Streaming Framework (멀티미디어 스트리밍 프레임워크에서 전송 및 세션 관리자의 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper deals with our experience for the design and implementation of Transport and Session managers in the Integrated Streaming Service Architecture (IS SA) that was developed by the authors. The ISSA is a streaming framework that allows to develop integrated multimedia streaming applications such as VOD system in unicast/multicast and real-time broadcastOive-cast). It also facilities standard real-time transport protocols such as RTp(Real-Time Transport Protocol)/RTCP(Real-time Control Protocol) and RTSP(Real-Time Streaming ProtocoD that allows to user openness. The ISSA supports diverse media fonnats and is independent from underlying networks and operating systems, and compatible with the global real-time multimedia database system (BeeHive) so that streaming media are efficiently retrieved, stored, and serviced. The role of the Transport Manager is to do packetization and depacketization for the different types of multimedia data and delivers the packetized media data in real-time. The Transport Manager uses RTP protocol. The role of the Session Manager is to establish and control the media channel by using RTSP protocol and to deliver the database transactions for the multimedia database by using RTTP(Real-Time Transaction Protocol) protocol. Both the Transport and Session Manager are doing their functions through the network interface in the ISSA that allows developers to various network programming interfaces and provides flexibility to the system.
