자동차 실린더 블록 주조에서 워터 자켓용 샌드 코어 특성에 영향을 미치는 인자 (Factors Influencing Characteristics of Sand Core for Water Jacket in Automotive Cylinder Blocks Casting)

  • 본 자동차 실린더 블록 주조시 실린더 보어 내에서 발생하는 열로부터 구조적 변형을 방지하는데 필요한 워터 자켓 코어용 주물사의 특성을 분석하였다. 샌드 코어의 특성평가를 위하여 인장강도 시험기, 입도 지수(AFS-GFN), 광학현미경을 사용하였다. 주물사의 SiO2 함량이 높으면 고온팽창에 의한 치수 불량, 베이닝 불량이 발생하며, 너무 낮으면 코어 파손, 기포, 화학적 소착 등이 발생하였다. 입도 지수와 입형이 코어강도와 레진 소비량에 영향을 미치고, 이로 인한 불량 유형 변화가 발생하였다. 건조사가 염분이 높을수록 코어 강도는 감소하며, 알칼리성일수록 코어 강도가 감소하였다. 레진 함량 1.6~1.8%에서 1시간 경화 이후에 코어 강도 증가는 대략 최대를 보였다.

소형 가솔린 기관의 실린더 블록에 대한 열적 거동 해석 (Analysis of the thermal behaviors of the cylinder block of a small gasoline engine)

  • In this study, the thermal behavior characteristics of the cylinder block of a small 3-cylinder, 4-stroke gasoline engine were analyzed, using the 3-dimensional finite element method. Before numerical analyses were conducted, the performance test and the heat transfer experiment of the engine were carried out in order to prepare the input data for the computations. Engine cycle simulation was performed to obtain the heat transfer coefficient and the temperature of the gas and the mean heat transfer coefficient of coolant. Temperature fields as a result of steady-state heat transfer were obtained and compared with experimental results measured at specific points of the inner and the outer walls of the cylinder block. The thermal stress and deformation characteristics resulting from the nonuniform temperature distributions of the block were investigated. The effects of the thermal behaviors of the cylinder block on the engine operations and the unfavourable aspects of excessive thermal loading were examined on the basis of the calculated results.

  • Generally, a hydraulic cylinder block which is one of a vehicle parts that plays Important role in excavator power transmission, has copper alloy separation phenomenon by sliding motion between metals in high pressure condition. In this paper, to solve this problem, the interfacial reaction layer of Fe-Cu With SCM440 and copper alloy is studied through the melting method. As the result of this study, it is found that the interfacial reaction layer of $1{\mu}m$ created in the interface of Fe-Cu which has very strong physical bonding. It has been also confirmed that the melting method can improve life of the hydraulic cylinder block.

  • Cracks on the cylinder block of diesel engines will often happen due to cyclic load and thermal stress. According to the Classification Societies' rules, welding repairs of cylinder block made of cast irons are generally not permitted. However, such welding repairs became inevitable taking enormous cost and time for their renewal into consideration. In this study repair welding methods for the cylinder blocks, made of gray cast irons were reviewed and the tests of their welds were carried out in order to purpose the repair welding methods of packing seat and o-ring seat of cylinder block and apply them to the practice. It is concluding remarks that the suspected crack by a magnetic particle test due to different magnetic permeability can be identified, which are not associated with a mechanical discontinuity.

  • A computer program has been developed to predict the heat transfer characteristics and the temperature distribution in the cylinder block of a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine. The finete element method is employed to handle the complex geometries associated with the practical cylinder block. The hexahedron finite element is used for a mesh generation of three-dimensional domain. The present numerical procedure has been validated with the measured temperature at several locations of cylinder block. The heat transfer characteristics of engine cylinder block is systematically analyzed for various engine speeds and loading conditions.

In this study repair welding methods for the clinder blocks made of gray cast irons were reviewed and the tests of their welds were carried out in order to purpose the repair welding meth-ods of packing seat and o-ring seat of cylinder block and apply them to the practice. The following conclusions are botained :1 The tensile strength of weld of cast iron more than that of base metal can be obtained by means of preheating keeping temperature above $100^{\circ}C$ between welding pass-es preventing slag inclusion peening and cramping weld metal by studs. 2. The suspected crack by a magnetic particle test due to different magnetic permeability can be identified which are not associated with a mechanical discotinuity.
