The purpose of this study was to identify the preference of interior design, design style and color, according to consumers' life style. Data were collected from March 7th. 2002. to March 22nd. 2002 using the questionnaire. The subjects were 228 adults and frequency, percentage, mean, cross tab, F-test, factor analysis, and cluster analysis were used for data analysis. The major results of this study were: 1) The types of life style were 3: regular family oriented type, progressive fashionable type, and conservative self-manageable type. 2) This study revealed relative difference in design style and color preference according to consumers' life style. Therefore, the type of life style could be used as powerful variable in interior design and marketing of allied industries.

The purposes of this study were to identify styles of contemporary interior design, construct their images, and find out the relation of the identified styles to the structure images. Content analysis was used as the main method of this study, and the focus of the analysis was on a typological approach. Two hundred interior design photos were drawn from five different interior design magazines published in the past ten years, and ,they were analyzed by interior design professionals. Contemporary interior design was classified into ten styles: romantic, ethnic, classical, high tech, elegant, country, modern, minimal, natural, and causal. Given the ten styles, five images of interior design were identified - simple, comfortable, rustic, classical, and delightful. With regard to the relationships between 10 styles and 5 images of interior design, the this study found that the romantic style was related to the images of rustic and classical, the ethnic style to the images of comfortable, classical, and delightful, the classical style to the image of classical, the high tech style to the images of classical and rustic, the elegant style to the images of simple and classical, the country style to the images of comfortable and rustic, the modern style to the images of simple and delightful, the minimal style to the image of comfortable, the natural style to the images of comfortable and delightful, and the causal style to the images of comfortable and delightful.

This study aims to find out various users' diverse interior design needs for their housing and interior design through the personality, which is intrinsic and consistent traits of the individual. The survey research followed the literature reviews including personality studies and interior design assessments. 176 undergraduate and graduate students as controlled by age, sex, and major answered the questionnaire. Their housing and interior design attitudes, the semiotic assessment of interior design styles, and interior design preference were compared in accordance with four pairs of preference dichotomy of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator): Extraversion -Introversion, Sensing-iNtuition, Thinking-Feeling, Judging-Perceiving. As a result, the framework of housing and interior design needs by the users' personality types are proposed. It shows specific needs for 16 types of personality based on eight preference dichotomy: extroversion-open, introversion-closed, sensing-functional, intuition-emotional, thinking-restricted, feeling-receptive, judging-simple, and perceiving-creative.

With the continuous rise of elderly population and rapid progression of aging in our society, greater emphasis is placed on the importance of local seniors welfare centers as representative service space that meets the diverse needs of local residents. In addition, there is a growing tendency among current users to seek high-quality service as their educational level, economic ability and lifestyle have changed for the better compared to past generations. Accordingly, this study analyzed the satisfaction of senior welfare centers according to life-style type of the elderly, using a lifestyle measurement tool which incorporates indicators of gerontographics. A survey was conducted with users of seven senior welfare centers located in Seoul. Analysis results are as follows: First, four types of lifestyle were derived through cluster analysis; independent activity type, protective activity type, active challenge type, and passive challenge type. Second, it was found that the overall satisfaction of seniors welfare centers by the life-style of the elderly is highest for the protective activity type followed by the passive challenge type, the active challenge type, and the independent activity type. Third, upon examining the effect of spatial characteristics of welfare centers on the satisfaction of elderly users by type of lifestyle, it was found that the independent activity type and the passive challenge type users are most influenced by intimacy, the protective activity type users by comfort, and the active challenge type users by convenience.

Modern people come to have high standard and variety need for the oneself expression these days. This phenomenon also, appears in the house space clearly. There are design characteristics in an element expressing a lifestyle and personality in the house space and a living room is the space that is important at time to do a design characteristics plan. Therefore, this study is going to analyze the design characteristics of the apartment house which is a representative house type these days. Concretely, there are design characteristics that a color, an Image, a style. This study used questionary survey from June 10, 2008 to July 9. The color analyzed a color and tone through a color palette of PCIS and the living room image used SD(semantic differential method) method by a concrete analysis method. The result of the analysis were as follows; 1) Various colors and tone were prefer in a house future than the house where lived in. 2) It was done prefer to 'comfort' image for the future living room image in the future but 'provocative' image and 'splendid' were not done a choice 3) A 'modern style' was done prefer to of with a house living room style in the future.

This study attempts to analyze the styles and the images of the exterior and interior design of modern Korean houses since 1960s, and to understand the characteristics of Korean design by analyzing the consistant and changing factors in the styles and images of modern Korean houses. The photos of 101 houses were used for content-analysis approach. The result shows that the most dominant exterior style of modern Korean houses has been changed from modernism to late-modernism and it brought some changes in the images with increase of deconstructivism and post-modernism style. While modernism has been consistantly the most dominant style in the interior design of modern Korean houses with unified, urbane, masculine and unpartitioned images. It means that modernism style shown in modern Korean houses expresses certain consistant images, which can be defined as a characteristic of modern Korean house desigv.

우리나라 1인 가구는 대부분 다인가구로의 전환 이전에 잠시 거치는 거주형태로 인식되어 불안정한 상황이다. 그러나 오늘날 만혼, 비혼 등 결혼에 대한 인식 변화와 고령화 등의 영향으로 가족의 형태가 변화하고 있으며 이에 따라 거주형태도 다인가족 중심에서 1인 또는 2인 등 소단위로 분화되면서 다양해지고 있다. 하지만 다인 가구에 중심으로 형성된 기존의 주거시장에서는 이러한 급속도의 변화를 수용할 수 없어 여전히 소형 주거는 많은 불편함을 감수해야만 하는 열악한 실정이다. 본 연구는 현 사회현상에 주목하고 1인 가구를 위한 주거 계획 시 실내환경 측면에서 고려해야 할 사항들을 도출하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 선행연구들을 바탕으로 1인가구의 생활유형과 실내공간에서의 요구 사항들을 파악하기 위한 설문을 구성하였으며 실제 1인가구를 대상으로 설문조사 하였다. 결과, 현재 1인가구들이 거주하는 소형주거에서는 식사공간, 수납공간 등이 미비하여 공간 만족도가 매우 낮게 나타나는 등 무계획적 원룸형태 공급으로 인한 문제점을 확인 할 수 있었다. 따라서 단순히 숙식을 위한 물리적 공간 공급이 아니라 다양한 라이프스타일을 반영한 계획적 평면개발이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 또한 공간이라는 하드웨어와 1인 주거 간의 커뮤니티 활성화, 고령사회를 반영하여 다양한 연령대 1인 주거를 위한 사회화 프로그램 개발 등 소프트웨어 적 고려도 함께 이루어져야 할 것이다. 본 연구 결과는 물리적, 심리적 전환기에 있는 우리나라 주택시장의 새로운 요구에 대응할 수 있는 기초자료로 활용되어지길 기대한다.

This study attempts to analyze the characteristics and changing trends of the interior design of modern Korean houses since 1960s and to understand the impacts of Western architecture and design. the photos of 101 houses were selected from the magazines published since 1960s. The data collected were analyzed via frequency percentage and average. The result reveals that the interior design of the living rooms in modern Korean houses has undergone lots of changes in finishing materials window treatments types of cabinets and use of lighting fixtures. It is concluded that 1960-1960s is a period of introducing Western design as a superior while 1980's is a period of exploring various ways toward harmony between Korean style and Western styles and 1990's is a period of settlement of koreanized modernism style.

Recent rapid economical growth has brought many of changes and great improvement in quality of life in Korea. In accordance with this social trend, there are diversified lifestyles which influence consumer behavior, The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument that is able to measure more efficiently current housing lifestyle pattern. Eighty questioning items were analyzed and reclassified into same characteristics by using Q-sorting method.
