Why Do Consumers Resist Innovative Wearable Devices? The Case of Smartwatches (사용자 선호기반 웨어러블 디바이스의 수용성 연구: 스마트워치를 중심으로)

  • Despite consumers' increasing awareness and interests in innovative wearable devices, the sales growth has been stagnant. To analyze this phenomenon, we investigate consumer preferences for various innovative features embedded in wearable devices. Conducting conjoint analysis on smartwatches, we empirically show that the curse of innovation can occur when the consumer's expected utility from the smartwatch falls short of his/her psychological cost associated with behavior change from smartwatch usage. Therefore, our findings provide managerial implications on the R&D strategy for new technologies and more importantly on the marketing strategy easing consumers' resistance to highly innovative products.

Study on the audience effect of advertisements of IoT products across different levels of sensory innovativeness (감각적 혁신성향에 따른 사물인터넷(IoT) 제품 광고의 수용자 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to review whether there is a difference in the audience effect of advertisements of IoT products across different levels of sensory innovativeness. For the study, a total of 128 male and female university students and three advertisements of IoT products were selected. The study findings show that consumers with a higher tendency in purusing sensory innovativeness are more likely to rate more positively the perceived usefulness of the product and the attitude towards the product as shown in the advertisement. This finding is meaningful in that it was concluded from an empirical study at a time when studies on advertisements of IoT products are lacking. The study is also expected to provide beneficial insights into effective execution of advertisements of new technologies and establishment of marketing strategies. Follow-up studies that take into account a wider range of variables representing sensory innovativeness in consumers are suggested.

A Study on the Determinants of Consumers' Intention to Switch to New Self-service Technologies in Banking Industry (고객의 셀프서비스 테크놀로지로의 전환요인에 대한 실증연구)

  • This research examines the factors that influence a consumer's decision to switch to new self-service technologies. The model related to attitudes, anticipated outcomes and intentions to change a behavior was assessed using structural equation modeling at the context of a banking industry. The results revealed that 1) an attitude toward a staff, Internet banking, and an ATM would influence an attitude toward a bank, 2) an attitude toward Internet banking and ATM influence utility and enjoyment, and an attitude toward Internet banking and staff affect social acceptance, 3) an attitude toward a bank was positively associated with enjoyment, 4) an attitude toward Internet banking had a positive effect on the intention, but an attitude toward an ATM had a negative one, and 5) both anticipated outcomes, enjoyment and social acceptance, were found to influence an intention to change behavior, but utility was found to affect negatively.

  • 최근 국내에서 발생된 대규모 정전사태로 인해 안정적인 전력공급에 대한 국민들의 요구가 커져, 지난 3월 일본 후쿠시마 원전사고 이후 다시 한번 분산전원에 대한 필요성이 대두되어지고 있다. 여러 분산전원 중 연료전지는 다른 에너지원에 비해 에너지의 지속성이 우수하여 가장 안정적인 분산전원 형태의 하나이다. 이에 따라 국내의 경우 우수한 도시가스 인프라로 인해 건물용 연료전지라는 신기술에 대한 국민의 수용성은 점점 높아질 것으로 기대된다. 현재 건물용 연료전지의 경우, 주로 1kW급 연료전지가 시범보급되어 각 가정에 설치되어지고 있으나, 상가, 주유소 및 편의점 등의 상업시설과 생활관 및 소형빌라 등의 집단 주거시설 같은 1kW급 보다 용량을 더 필요로 하는 응용처에 국내에서 개발된 5kW급 연료전지시스템이 적용되어지기를 기대한다. 본 연구에서는 국내 제작된 5kW급 고분자전해질 연료전지시스템의 보급이전에 안전성능 평가를 통해 시스템의 성능 및 안전성 평가결과를 제조사에 피드백 하여 5kW급 건물용 연료전지시스템의 조기 상업화에 앞장서고자 한다. 5kW급 연료전지시스템의 기술개발은 핵심부품인 연료변환기, 스택 및 BOP 기술의 경우 1kW급 연료전지시스템에 적용된 것과는 다른 기술이 필요하고, 단순한 scale-up 과정이 아닌 새로운 기술개발로 제품에 적용시켜야 하는 난점을 가지고 있다. 특히, 연료변환기의 경우 연료 유량의 증가로 인하여 reformer, CO shift 및 Prox 반응기의 유체역학, 열교환 흐름 및 촉매반응 공학적으로 이론을 응용한 새로운 반응기 설계와 제작기술 확립이 선행되어 전체적인 시스템 제작 설계에 반영되어져야 한다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 연료전지시스템 안전성능 평가를 위해 용량증대에 따른 안전성평가 항목을 검토하고, 5kW급 연료전지시스템평가를 수행하여 시스템의 제품성능, 작동성능 및 계통연계성능에서의 안전성을 확인하였고, 정전 유풍과 같은 이상조건 및 실외 환경에 대한 시스템의 안전성도 확인하였다. 또한 부하운전 조건을 75% 및 50%로 변화시켰을 때 빠른 응답시간과 안정적인 부하변동운전을 확인하였다.

  • This study, based on flow theory and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), examines various factors that influence the continuous use of mobile applications, particularly those providing users with satisfaction and pleasure as well as useful information. This study extends the previous studies that have been based on technology acceptance model, in which usefulness and ease of use are key determinants of use of new technology, by introducing flow theory in explaining the use of various technologies in mobile environment. For this purpose, this study employes a survey based field study and collects data from individuals who use fashion mobile apps since these are considered to provide fun and pleasures. This study finds that flow theory is a proper framework to understand the use of mobile technology, indicating flow experience is an important variable to determine the usage of fashion apps. In addition, performance expectation, effort expectation, social influence, and facilitation condition are found to be significant in influencing use of mobile apps, suggesting UTAUT still plays an important role in understanding the use of mobile technology.

  • The purpose of this study is to present an approach to the "Digital Health Passport" (DHP), which will be the most important in the change of the travel industry among the sudden environmental changes brought about by COVID-19. To this end, this study reviewed a variety of empirical literature on DHP, and proposed a framework for DHP based on literature review. The framework is composed of travel intention, health information provision intention, and new technology acceptance/adoption of tourists. First, in terms of travel intention, providing information to DHP should not undermine the travel intention of the travelers. It should be possible to facilitate the travelers' enjoyment by using the information provided by the traveler. In addition, there is a need to assure that the data provided by travelers is managed in a reliable way. Second, it is necessary to understand why the travelers want to provide additional personal information (information disclosure), rather than seeing healthcare information only in terms of mandatory information provision. Finally, from the perspective of new technology, it is necessary to understand the intention of travelers to use/adopt DHP. The key implication of this work is that it proposed a DHP framework for realizing the travel bubble to predict and respond to foreign travelers' behaviors.

A Study on the Metaverse Experience Economy Factors and Advertisement Acceptance Intention (메타버스 체험경제 요인과 광고 수용의도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of experiential economy factors using metaverse on the intention to accept advertisements reflecting new technologies. The subjects of this study were those located in G Metropolitan City and J Province, and those who experienced metaverse. From August 1 to September 10, 2022, 150 people participated in the survey without face-to-face. Analysis methods were frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and three-step mediated regression analysis. The conclusion is as follows. First, the influence of metaverse experience on advertisement acceptance intention was shown in the order of relational experience, educational experience, and escapist experience. Second, it was found that the relational and educational experiences of metaverse partially mediate metaverse usefulness and affect the advertisement acceptance intention. Third, it was found that the relational and educational experiences of the metaverse partially mediate the metaverse presence and affect the advertisement acceptance intention. Also, it was found that the metaverse's escapist experience completely mediates the metaverse's presence and affects the advertisement acceptance intention. Fourth, it was found that the escapist experience of metaverse completely mediates the ease of use of metaverse and affects the advertisement acceptance intention. It is expected that this study will contribute to the construction of a new platform in the advertising market using various platforms of metaverse.

Prospect users' perceptions of TSI technologies: An analysis of focus group interviews with adolescents (실감공간기술(Tangible Space Initiative)에 대한 잠재적 수용자의 인식: 청소년을 대상으로 한 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 중심으로)

  • 본 연구에서는 실감공간에 대한 청소년의 반응을 바탕으로 향후 기술 개발 방향에 대한 조언을 하기 위하여 총 41명의 학생을 대상으로 소집단 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 시행하였다. 청소년들이 자주 사용하는 미디어의 종류와 이유, 미디어 사용에서 느끼는 불편한 점, 그들이 상상하는 미래형 미디어의 모습과 실감공간기술에 대한 반응을 묻고, 그 결과를 유형화하였다. 연구 결과 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 참가자들은 자주 사용하는 미디어로 휴대폰과, 인터넷, MP3, 활자 매체 등을 꼽았다. 활자매체의 장점으로는 높은 몰입도를, 인터넷의 장점으로는 편리한 인터페이스, 핸드폰의 장점으로는 이동성이 제기되었다. 그러나 핸드폰과 관련하여 청소년들은 불편한 인터페이스, 작은 용량과 빨리 닳는 배터리를 단점으로 지적했고 뉴미디어 공통적으로 느린 속도, 미디어에 의존하게 되는 강박증적 증세, 사생활 침해의 문제와 대인관계유지에 있어서의 부작용, 높은 이용료 등의 문제가 제기되었다. 이들은 일상생활이 미디어 이용에 의해 방해받고 있으며 미디어 이용으로 인해 불필요한 '필요'가 생겨나고 있다고 지적했다. 미래형 미디어에 대한 바람은 기존 미디어의 단점이 보완, 개선되는 측면에서 제시되었다. 더욱 편리해진 인터페이스와 기존 뉴미디어의 장점이 접목되는 방향의 미디어 통합도 요청되었다. 그러나 실감공간기술에 대해서는 긍정적인 반응보다는 부정적인 반응을 수적으로 우세해 주목을 끌었다. 진화된 형태의 미디어에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보일 것이라는 예상과는 달리 실감공간기술이 기존의 면 대 면 대인관계를 파괴할 것이며 사생활을 침해하고 건강에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라는 등의 거부감과 공포를 구체적으로 피력한 것이다. 이러한 두려움(fear)은 선행연구에 따르면 사람들이 새로운 매체에 대해 갖는 두려움과 이로부터 발생하는 두려움에 대한 대응은 혁명적 변화의 가능성을 억압하여 기존의 질서와 새로운 질서가 공존하는 기간을 늘림으로써 미시적 차원에서 단절적 역사의 경험을 완화시키는 기능을 하는 것으로 해석된다. 따라서 연구 결과 나타난 실감공간 기술에 대한 부정적인 반응도 이러한 맥락에서 해석될 수 있다. 즉 인터뷰 참가자들이 피력한 두려움은 뉴미디어 도입과 함께 반복되는 현상이며 이것은 새로운 현상이 아니다. 두려움은 기존 질서와 새로운 질서가 공존하는 기간을 연장시킴으로써 완충재로서 기능한다. 따라서 향후 기술 개발과 확산 과정에서 실감공간기술의 긍정적인 면모에 대한 적극적인 홍보가 필요하며 수용자들의 바람과 신기술에 대한 공포감을 이해하고 이를 기술 개발 방향 설정에 적극적으로 반영하는 자세가 요청된다고 하겠다.

  • The diffusion of new technology has traditionally focused on the adoption perspective. Researchers refer this use-diffusion paradigm to behaviors of use after adoption. This study intends to analyse the influential factors of use-diffusion and continual use of website and applications in medical service. To achieve this a use-diffusion model as a conceptual frame work is suggested. Medical information quality, personal innovativeness and subjective norm are assumed as antecedent variables medical website and application's rate of use, variety of use, and continued use intention as result variables. According to the empirical study results medical information quality, web based application usability, personal innovativeness, and subjective norm have a meaningful influence on medical service consumer's use-diffusion patterns. Also pattern of use influences the continued use intention. This study provides an opportunity to understand medical service consumer's behavior after website and application use adoption and suggests further directions for establishing medical service online marketing strategy by determining influential factors of use-diffusion and continued use of medical online marketing tools.

  • The development of social platforms and digital technology has promoted the age of the communication in our society. As online communication has become commonplace, expressing feelings, thoughts and experiences on the Internet has become an everyday routine. Among them, SNS is one of the representative platforms for expressing oneself easily and interacting with other users. The way of communicating with the SNS about what they did and what experiences they experienced from one's everyday lives became more common. As a result, the museum makes various efforts to enhance visitors' attention and interest with the use of SNS. It provides a content-based programs and museum environment that allow visitors to enjoy playing and learning at the same time. This study will explore not only a simple appreciation, but also the way of communicating to everyday life in terms of the changes for museum environment through the development, implementation and adaptations of digital technology. Through this, mobile-based communication with SNS provides various values and quality of museum visit, can be completed with meaningful museum experience, and various roles and functions of the museum are examined in terms of social platform of experience.
