  • In this study, an efficient ornithopter aerodynamic model, which is applicable to ornithopter wing design considering fluid-structure interaction or ornithopter flight dynamics and control simulation, was proposed and experimentally validated through the wind tunnel experiments. Due to the ornithopter aerodynamics governed by unsteady low Reynolds number flow, an experimental device was specially designed and developed. A part of the experimental device, 2-axis loadcell, was situated in the non-inertial frame; the dynamic calibration method was established to compensate the inertial load for pure aerodynamic load measurements. The characteristics of proposed aerodynamic model were compared with the experimental data in terms of mean and root-mean-square values of lift and drag coefficients with respect to the flow speed, flapping frequency, and fixed angle of attack.

  • Consistent and realistic error covariance information is important for position estimation, error analysis, fault detection, and integer ambiguity resolution for differential GNSS. In designing a position domain carrier-smoothed-code filter where incremental carrier phases are used for time-propagation, formulation of consistent error covariance information is not easy due to being bounded and temporal correlation of propagation noises. To provide consistent and correct error covariance information, this paper proposes two recursive filter algorithms based on carrier-smoothed-code techniques: (a) the stepwise optimal position projection filter and (b) the stepwise unbiased position projection filter. A Monte-Carlo simulation result shows that the proposed filter algorithms actually generate consistent error covariance information and the neglection of carrier phase noise induces optimistic error covariance information. It is also shown that the stepwise unbiased position projection filter is attractive since its performance is good and its computational burden is moderate.

  • In this paper, we consider the ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) system which collects the imagery intelligence from an airplane and CDL(common data link) communication system which transports the information obtained by the ISR system. The IMINT(imagery intelligence) consists of MPEG-2 transport stream packets and they transmit through CDL. We have some simulations for communication performances of CDL and show performance improvements using convolutional coding. We have compared BER performances under AWGN channel and fading channel which is caused by the velocity of an airplane.

  • This study performed fault test on global positoining system (GPS) carrier phase measurements, which is a preprocessing step to generate the positioning correction information based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) infrastructure. The existing carrier acceleration ramp step test (CARST) method affects the test result by using the mean value to eliminate the receiver clock error. In this regard, this study applied differencing and compared its results with those of the existing CARST. The fault simulation that applied artificial faults to the actual data found that the fault could be detected independently on each satellite when difference method was applied, and the single difference CARST and the double difference CARST produced similar results. The comparison with the existing method using actual data demonstrated the strengths and weaknesses of satellite and station single difference. Nevertheless, it is our understanding that it would require an additional analysis to determine whether the results were affected by the satellite or receiver clock error.

  • NAND multilevel cell (MLC) flash memory is widely issued because it can increase the capability of storage by storing two or more bits to a single cell. However if a number of levels in a cell increases, some physical features like cell to cell interference result cell voltage shift and it is known that a VT shift is unidirectional. To reduce errors by the effects, we can consider error correcting codes(ECC) or signal processing methods. We focus signal processing methods for the cell to cell interference voltage shift effects and propose the algorithms which reduce the effects of the voltage shift by estimating it and making level read voltages be adaptive. These new algorithms can be applied with ECC at the same time, therefore these algorithms are efficient for MLC error correcting ability. We show the bit error rate simulation results of the algorithms and compare the performance of the algorithms.

  • H.264/AVC provides better quality than other algorithms by using a deblocking filter to remove blocking distortion on block boundary of the decoded picture. However, this filtering process includes lots of memory accesses, which cause delay of overall decoding time. In this paper, we propose a data-reuse algorithm to speed up the process for the deblocking filter. To reuse the data, a new filtering order is suggested. By using this order, we reduce the memory access and accelerate the deblocking filter. The modeling of proposed algorithm is compiled under ARM ADS1.2 and simulated with Armulator. The results of the experiment compared with H.264/AVC standard are achieved on average 58.45% and 57.93% performance improvements at execution cycles and memory access cycles, respectively.

  • In this paper, miniaturized conically stepped COBRA is proposed. In order to prevent electrical breakdown, COBRA, which consists of hem and lens, has to get bigger if it is designed with conventional method. Because of the phase error increase, shortening the length of the antenna without changing the aperture size leads to the reduction of the antenna gain. To avoid this, the phase error at the aperture is compensated by transforming the COBRA lens into conically stepped form. The simulations result shows that the proposed antenna has higher gain than the conventional COBRA in spite of the size reduction from 1,300 mm to 600 mm. The fabricated and measured COBRA has the gain of 26.2 dBi.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the DS/CDMA System with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity, as a method to achieve a good performance by reducing the complexity of system, when PLL gain value was revised a phase gulf among branches to make perfect coherent receive signal. The channel is a multipath Nakagami-m fading channel, we consider user(K), processor gain(N), number of paths(Lp) in DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity. We found that PLL gain values exist to make perfect coherent receive signal. We verified that DS/CDMA system with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity can improve performance when the proper PLL gain values is used in the system. As a result, we verified that the upper limit of PLL gain value is 5dB to make perfect coherent receive signal in the DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity.

  • SpaceWire invented for spacecrafts has Time-Code defined for time synchronization over SpaceWire network. A Time-Code suffers transmission delay of 14[bit-period] and jitter up to 10[bit-period] whenever it passes through a SpaceWire link, which is the primary cause of time synchronization error. This work presents a simple method to improve the time synchronization which uses two extended Time-Codes. Nodes on a SpaceWire network can find how much delay and jitter a received Time-Code has suffered while it passes through the network, and they can correct time synchronization error with this information. The proposed method was validated in a simulation environment developed based on OMNeT++. The simulation result showed that time synchronization error less than a few bit-periods can be achieved. The proposed method is cost effective and suitable for small-scale SpaceWire network systems.
