  • Warm mix asphalt(WMA), which is produced at lower temperatures than hot mix asphalt, has advantages in reductions of fuel consumption and greenhouse-gas emission. In this study, field tests such as skid resistance, rutting(permanent deformation), and roughness were conducted for analysis of long-term field performance of modified warm mix asphalt pavement. Skid resistance after 20 months represents the result similar to initial performance results but rutting and roughness decreased somewhat depending on the period of performance. Measurement results of permanent deformation and roughness could be acceptable because measured pavement location is bus lane that a lot of buses pass and stop. There were no cracks after 11 months, but some minor cracks were observed after 20 months. These results were influenced by increased crack resistance due to fiber addition.

  • Recently the deep and large excavations are performed near the existing buildings in urban areas for the practical use of underground space. The earth pressure due to the excavation are varied according to the conditions of ground, the depth of excavation, the construction methods, and the method of supporting the earth pressure etc.. In this study, not only the behavior of axial load and distribution of earth pressure on the flexible wall according to stage excavation depth but also magnitude and distribution of lateral deformation, and the equivalent earth pressure from strut axial loads were analyzed by the results measured from instruments such as, load cells, strain gauges, and in-situ inclinometer, on the field of subway construction. According to the results of this study in the case of stage excavation the earth pressure of soft clayey soil is compounded with Terzaghi-Peck and Tschebotarioff.

  • The essential characteristic of ubiquitous is context-awareness, and that means ubiquitous computing can automatically process the data that change according to space and time, without users' intervention. However, in circumstance of context awareness, since location information is able to be collected without users' clear approval, users cannot control their location information completely. These problems can cause privacy issue when users access their location information. Therefore, it is important to construct the location information system, which decides to release the information considering privacy under the condition such as location, users' situation, and people who demand information. Therefore, in order to intercept an outflow information and provide securely location-based information, this paper suggests a new system based CS-RBAC with the existing LBS, which responds sensitively as customer's situation. Moreover, it accommodates a merit of PCP reflecting user's preference constructively. Also, through privacy weight, it makes information not only decide to providing information, but endow 'grade'. By this method, users' data can be protected safely with foundation of 'Role' in context-aware circumstance.

  • There are natural disasters caused by abnormal climate in the world. In particular, there are frequent disasters such as floods and landslides caused by rainfall in summer. Rainfall will have a major impact on the stability of a retaining wall. If drainage during rainfall activities within the retaining wall is not made properly, permeated water brings a significant increase in pore pressure inside of the backfill soil and reduces the shear strength of the soil. Therefore, research how to install the drainage layers to reduce the infiltrated water inside of the backfill soil is very necessary. In this study, we performed a numerical modeling to find the optimum installation conditions of the location and number of drainage layer related to stability of the reinforced retaining wall during rainfall installed geosynthetics.

  • GA-based fuzzy optimum design algorithm incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method is presented in this study. In the refined plastic hinge analysis method, geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of the beam-column members. Material nonlinearity is also considered by using the gradual stiffness degradation model, which considers the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurence of plastic hinges, and the geometric imperfections of the members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and the total weight of the steel frames. The requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and constructabil ity are used as the constraint conditions. In fuzzy optimization, for crisp objective function and fuzzy constraint s, the tolerance that is accepted is 5% of the constraints. Furthermore, a level-cut method is presented from 0 to 1 at a 0 .2 interval, with the use of the nonmembership function, to solve fuzzy-optimization problems. The values of conventional GA optimization and fuzzy GA optimization are compared in several examples of steel structures.

  • A steel-concrete composite column is a recently developed composite system in which the two opposite flanges of the H-shape section are connected by welded links, and the vacant space enclosed by the flanges, web, and links is filled with concrete. Previous experiments on the SC composite column were performed to evaluate its compression and bending and shear strengths, respectively, and they showed fairly good results. In addition to thesestudies, it may be necessary to evaluate the flexural-axial capacity of an SC composite column, because itscolumn members are generally subjected to axial force and bending moment at the same time. In this study, the bending strength of an SC composite column subjected to axial compression force was investigated experimentally. The results of the study showed that the AISC-LRFD provisions representedexcessively low values compared with those of the ACI, Eurocode-4, and Japan Code provisions. The Eurocode-4 provisions represented reasonable evaluations of the strength of the SC composite column composed of a non-compact section.

  • Ongoing huge Bakun Hydropower project is including the construction of a 210 m height hydroelectric rockfill dam with an installed capacity of 2,520 MW and a power transmission system connecting to the existing networks between Sarawak and peninsula Malaysia. In order to allow the main dam construction during the dry season, the Ballui river will have to be detoured through 3 concrete lined diversion tunnels with an internal diameter of 12 m and a length of 1,400 m each. The geology of Bakun site belongs to the several thousand meters thick Belaga formation deposited from the late Cteteceous to the early Teriary in the Northwest Borneo geosyncline. The orientation of the bedding plane, strike at N55$^{\circ}$E to N70$^{\circ}$E and dip at 50$^{\circ}$SE to 70$^{\circ}$SE, is developed uniformly in Bakun sedimentary rocks. Rock mechanical characteristics of Bakun site have been classified into 4 rock mass types(RMT) depending on the degree of weathering and the occurrence of rock jointing with RMR. Graywacke(Sandstone) as well as Shale can take place together in the same rock mass type if their rock mass properties are similar. It was summarized the rock support type and support system design of underground diversion tunnels in view of rock mechanics.

  • Anisotropic/heterogeneous rock mass shows various deformation behavior types due to tunnelling because deformation behavior is largely controlled by the spacial characteristics of geological factors such as faults, joints and fractured zone in rock mass. In this paper 2-dimensional numerical analysis on the several influencing factors is performed considering fractured zone located near tunnel. This numerical analysis shows that deformation behavior of tunnel are very different according to the width and the location of fractured zone and supper method. However, 3-dimensional analysis is necessary to consider 3-dimensional geometrical characteristics sufficiently since discontinuity and fractured zone have 3-dimensional geometry. Also flexible design/construction guidelines for tunnelling are required to cope with uncertain ground condition and circumstance for technically safe and economic tunnel construction.

  • This paper summarizes the seismic performance of two shear walls with different reinforcement details in boundary elements. One is a special shear wall designed by KBC2009 and the other is a shear wall with improved reinforcement details in boundary elements, which is a newly proposed type of special shear wall. Experimental tests under cyclic reversed loading were carried out with two 2/3 scale shear walls which were modelled from the lower part of seismic-resisting shear wall in 22-stories wall-slab apartment building. The experimental results show that seismic performance of shear wall with improved reinforcement details was almost similar to that of special shear wall with respect to the moment-drift ratio. However, energy dissipation capacity and ductility were slightly different. Also, shear wall with improved reinforcement details in boundary elements satisfied the inter-story drift limit of 1.5% from KBC2009.
