Study on the Chemically Method of Epoxy Restoration Material in Antic Ceramics and Stabilization of Their Materials (토기.도자기 복원에 사용된 에폭시 복원재료의 화학적 제거방법과 그 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • The yellowing is always occurred phenomena in epoxy restoration material of antic-ceramics. For re-restoration of remains with epoxy restoration material, the epoxy elimination step is the first one in all course of restoration In this paper, the chemically elimination treatments methods of epoxy in various antic-ceramics were discussed. We fabricated the epoxy elimination material for antic-ceramics restoration which were made up Dichloromethane and Dichlormethane based Dimethylformamide solution. Dichloromethane and Dichloromethane + Dimethylformamide mixture were applied to epoxy in various antic-ceramic sample. Particularly, Dichloromethane + Dimethylformamide solution had the best result in variation of color change, gloss, vending strength, weight, exfoliation time test after deposition in this solution. Dichloromrthane had the volume increase characteristics for epoxy material and Dimethylformamide had the mollification ones. So, Dichloromathane increased exfoliation in approximal surface of the epoxy material and antic ceramic, and Dimethylformamide decreased the surface hardness of epoxy. In this result, epoxy material even inside of ceramic that have very weak inside bonding is adaptable and stable eliminated. And in order to show the perfect elimination of this material, we successfully dissolve the epoxy restoration material in one antic pottery that is in one university museum's possession using this mixture. So, there is guarantee in the eternity and stabilization of restoration for antic-ceramics.

The Study on Removing Paraloid B-72 from Painting Layer on Mural of Mireukjeon Hall at Geunsansa Temple (금산사 미륵전 벽화 채색층의 Paraloid b-72 제거방법과 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • As the technique to remove Paraloid B-72, which is known as an irreversible material, the method using organic solvent and heating, though the ways vary depending on the kind of material to be removed, has been usually used, but it has yet to apply to mud mural because of the technical limit in processing and the potential risk of damage and, moreover, the removal efficiency which also remains unproven. Thus, in a bid to seek the way to safely remove Paraloid B-72 contained in mural, the test was conducted in a way of applying a compress method, which is deemed most efficient. The solvents which are proven to be Paraloid B-72 were applied to the absorbents such as active carbon fiber and methyl cellulose and then were eluted to the surface of mud mural sample which was prepared in the same size and condition for a certain time before evaluating the stability and removal efficiency. Such test was intended to identify the applicability to the mural of Mireukjeon Hall at Geunsansa Temple, which had been treated with Paraloid B-72 for preservation in the past. As a result, the way of mixing the absorbent such as active carbon fiber and Xylene alone or with other quick vaporable solvents proved to be most efficient in removing Paraloid B-72 from mud mural and particularly Acetone:Xylene(1:1wt%) was found to be the most stable among others. Such a test outcome is expected to be a useful data for removing Paraloid B-72 from the mural of Mireukjeon Hall at Geunsansa Temple as well as for restoring other mural cultural assets in the coming days.

Long-term Prognostic Value of Dipyridamole Stress Myocardial SPECT (디피리다몰 부하 심근관류 SPECT의 장기예후 예측능)

  • Purpose: Dipyridamole stress myocardial perfusion SPECT could predict prognosis, however, long-term follow-up showed change of hazard ratio in patients with suspected coronary artery disease. We investigated how long normal SPECT could predict the benign prognosis on the long-term follow-up. Materials and Methods: We followed up 1169 patients and divided these patients into groups in whom coronary angiography were performed and were not. Total cardiac event rate and hard event rate were predicted using clinical, angiographic and SPECT findings. Predictive values of normal and abnormal SPECT were examined using survival analysis with Mantel-Haenszel method, multivariate Cox proportional hazard model analysis and newly developed statistical method to test time-invariance of hazard rate and changing point of this rate. Results: Reversible perfusion decrease on myocardial perfusion SPECT predicted higher total cardiac event rate independently and further to angiographic findings. However, myocardial SPECT showed independent but not incremental prognostic values for hard event rate. Hazard ratio of normal perfusion SPECT was changed significantly (p<0.001) and the changing point of hazard rate was 4.4 years of follows up. However, the ratio of abnormal SPECT was not. Conclusion: Dipyridamole stress myocardial perfusion SPECT provided independent prognostic information in patients with known and suspected coronary artery disease. Normal perfusion SPECT predicted least event rate for 4.4 years.

  • The solid solutions of the $Sr_{1-X}M_XFeO_{3-y}$ (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, M=Ca) system having perovskite structures were prepared in air by heat treatment at 1473 K for 18hr. X-ray diffraction assigns cubic system for all the samples and shows that the lattice volume of each system decreases with increasing x value until x=0.3, but increases abruptly from x=0.4. The mole fractions of $Fe^{4+}$ ion($\tau$ value), the amounts of oxygen vacancy (y value) and finally nonstoichiometric chemical formulas for each composition were determined from Mohr salt analysis. TG/DTA thermal analysis (temperature range: 300~1173K) exhibits that 3-y values of the samples having x=0.1 and 0.2, decrease with temperature and increase almost reversibly with decreasing temperature. The samples of $x{\geq}0.3$, however, didn't show the reversible weight change and the 3-y values of them were nearly 2.5 in cooling process. Conductivities of each sample were varied within the semiconductivity range at relatively low temperature. And the conductivity at constant temperature decreases steadily with x value. The conduction mechanism of this ferrite system may be proposed as a hopping model of conducting electrons between the mixed valence states. At high temperature semiconductivity of each sample changed into metallic property.

Sensitivity of BOD Sensor with Heavy Metal Tolerant Serratia marcescens LSY4 (Serratia marcescens LSY4 중금속 내성주를 이용한 BOD센서의 감응도)

  • A BOD sensor was prepared with S. marcescens LSY4 and was applied for measurement of BOD values of a solution containing the standard organic pollutants. The sensor sensitivity was nearly independent of the culture time in the range of 9-16 hours. It was also affected little by the cell mass in the range of 0.22-0.75 mg $cm^{-2}$. A cyclic change in the solution pH in the range of 4-9 was accompanied by a reversible variation in the sensor sensitivity. However, the reversibility was lost when the solution pH became more acidic or more basic. Heavy metal ions lowered the sensor sensitivity, which took place more precipitously in the presence of $Cu^{2+}$ and $Ag^+$ rather than in the presence of $Zn^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$. The reduction of the sensor sensitivity was significantly attenuated by loading heavy metal ion tolerance induced strain. The $Cu^{2+}$tolerance induced strain was more efficient for the attenuation than $Zn^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ tolerance induced strain.

Clinical Characteristics of Asthmatic Patients Who Visited Emergency Room (응급실로 내원한 천식환자들의 임상적 특성)

  • Background : Despite remarkable progress of understanding the pathophysiology and therapy of bronchial asthma, asthma morbidity and mortality are on the rise. Also hospitalization and attending rates of emergency department for asthma have been increasing gradually. We analyzed clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients who visited emergency room due to asthma attack in order to define clinical characteristics of these group of patients. Method : We reviewed 105 adult asthmatic patients who attended emergency department of Korea University Hospital between August 1995 and July 1996, retrospectively. Results : 103 patients(56 female, 47 males, mean age : 48.6 years) attended-68 self referral, 18 practitioner referral and 17 OPD transfer- and 86 patients(83.5%) were admitted. Attending emergncy department was clearly more frequent in December(13.6%) and May(12.6%). Time lag between onset of asthmatic attack and arrival at the hospital was $14.2{\pm}15.5$ hour and initial peak expiratory flow rate was $166.7{\pm}68.3L/min$.(43.3% predicted) The commonest cause for visiting emergency room was aggravation of asthma due to upper respiratory tract infection in mild asthmatics. About half of them had history of previous ER visits. Their prognosis was not bad, but after discharge, about half of patients escaped from OPD follow-up. Conclusion : As a group they merit detailed attention and follow up arrangement. Clinician need to monitor and review the treatment plans, the medications, the patient's management technique, and the level of asthma control. For this group, plans for longer term treatment, including asthma education program and adjustment of overall treatment plan should be made.

  • Purpose : Loss of hippocampal interneurons in dentate gyrus has been reported in patients with severe temporal lobe epilepsy and in animals treated with kainic acid(KA). Interneurons contain $Ca^{2+}$- binding protein parvalbumin(PV). The effects of kainic acid on parvalbumin-immunoreactive (PV-IR) interneurons in dentate gyrus were investigated in organotypic hippocampal slice cultures. Methods : Cultured hippocampal slices from postnatal day nine C57/BL6 mice were exposed to $10{\mu}M$ KA, and were observed at 0, 8, 24, 48, 72 hours after a one hour KA exposure. Neuronal injury was determined by morphologic changes of PV-IR interneuron in dentate gyrus. Results : Transient(1 hour) exposure of hippocampal explant cultures to KA produced marked varicosities in dendrites of PV-IR interneuron in dentate gyrus and the shaft of interbeaded dendrite is often much thinner than those in control. The presence of varicosities in dendrites was reversible with KA washout. The dendrites of KA treated explants were no longer beaded at 8, 24, 48 and 72 hours after KA exposure. The number of cells in PV-IR interneurons in dentate gyrus was decreased at 0, 8 hours after exposure. But there was no significant difference in 24, 48 and 72 hours recovery group compared with control group. Conclusion : The results suggested that loss of PV-IR interneurons in dentate gyrus is transient, and is not accompanied by PV-IR interneuronal cell death.

The Effect of Mechanical Grinding or Electrochemical Properties of $CaNi_5$ Hydrogen Storage Alloy ($CaNi_5$ 수소저장합금의 전기화학 특성에 미치는 MG 처리 효과)

  • The effect of the MG on the electrochemical charge-discharge properties of $CaNi_5$ hydrogen storage alloys was investigated under Ar and $H_2$ atmosphere. $CaNi_5$ alloy was partially decomposed to CaO and Ni phase during the MG process. The decomposition of $CaNi_5$ alloy was enhanced by the MG process which leads to crash and reformation of oxide layer on the alloy surface. As the MG process time increased, initial discharge capacity of the electrode was reduced, but the decay rate of the capacity compared to $CaNi_5$ alloys was slower. It may be described that the degradation of $MG-CaNi_5$ electrode was caused by the reduction of the reversible hydrogen reaction sites and increasing polarization resistance of hydrogen adsorption resulted from phase decomposition and disorder during the MG process, and/or by hydroxide formation during the electrochemical charge-discharge cycles.

A Fluorescent Sensor Film for Detecting pH of Acidic Solutions (산성 용액의 pH를 감지할 수 있는 형광 센서막)

  • A push-pull conjugated dye (DCMP) was covalently immobilized on a silanized glass surface to produce a high sensitivity pH sensor film for operating in the acidic region. A pH-sensitive sensor film was prepared by photo-initiating copolymerization of a modified DCMP (DCMA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate on the silanized glass surface. The absorbance of the sensor film increased with increasing pH between pH 2.0 and 5.0, and the fluorescence intensity of the film also increased about 50 times with increasing pH in the same pH range. The sensor film was reversible and reproducible under acidic conditions. The sensor film showed a relatively short response time between 20-50 seconds and high selectivity for proton in the presence of various metal ions.

  • After resection of intraarticular, periacetabulum(P2) and pubic rami(P23) and extraarticular, proximal femur(P2-H12) by Enneking classification, reconstruction is very difficult. We experienced three cases of saddle prostheses for reconstruction after P2, P23, and P2-H12 resection in pelvic malignancies. Case 1 was a high grade chondrosarcoma in 36 year-old-man and P2 resection was done. But he died of disease 19 months after operation. Case 2 was a malignant giant cell tumor in 32 year-old-woman. P23 resection was given and she is disease-free 32 months after operation. Case 3 was an osteosarcoma of 27-year-old-man and P2-H12 resection was performed and he is disease-free postoperative 12 months now. According to MSTS functional evaluatin system, all three patients showed no pain(5), intermediate function(2), emotinally satisfied(3), one cane or crutch supported(1), limited walking(3), and minor cosmetic gait(3). There was no significant complication and no dislocation except intermittent inguinal hernia in case 2. All patients started crutch walking 3 weeks after operation. Around 6 months postoperatively, the preserved iliac wing(P1 component) was hypertrophied enough to endure the full weight bearing. All could have squating and kneeling positions. In conclusion, saddle prosthesis would be a very useful method of reconstruction after P2, P23, and/or H1-2 resection to shorten the operation time and to reduce the infection rate without significant loss of function.
