A semiotic analysis of trilogy (<슈렉> 3부작의 기호학적 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze trilogy by means of semiotics. trilogy constructs a story as a whole while each piece delivers a concluded ending. This study used 'modele actantiel' and 'carre semiotique' of Greimas in order to clarify not only the meaning structure but also the course of narrative of . is a compelling story which reverses the fairy tale of a beautiful princess and a heroic prince. Each piece of the trilogy unfolds as following; (1)ls the love of a princess and an ogre possible? (2)Can the marriage of the couple get confirmed? (3)Can Shrek be free again? The repeated meaning structure of trilogy is the binary opposition of nature versus culture, and the narrative course forms the meaning square on the basis of the opposition. Human culture represented by the lord Farquaad and Duloc castle signifies cleanness, order, complex, anxiety, paranoia, authoritarian, and violent. On the contrary, Nature represented by Shrek and the swamp signifies barbarity, freedom, confident, maturity, unstrained, and humar. The meaning of Shrek series is generated by the structure of the basic discrimination of culture versus nature. However, as story twists the bias and fixed idea, the meaning structure of Shrek shows a unique relationship of culture and nature. Although Shrek, an ogre, lives alone in a swamp because of the bias of human world, he is depicted as self-sufficient, comfort, and broad-minded. On the basis of this meaning structure, Shrek is not a story that an ogre(nature) strives to enter the human culture, nor a story that nature wins a victory at the confrontation between culture and nature, but a story that human(culture) and ogre(nature) overcome their fixed ideas through the transition from culture to nature and vice versa.

  • SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia integration Language) allows integrating a set of independent multimedia objects into a synchronized multimedia presentation. In this paper, I propose modeling rules, formal models, modeling function and an algorithm for SMIL documents using use case diagram and sequence diagram of UML(Unified Modeling Language), It will be used the use case diagram and collaboration diagram for object-oriented visualizing tool to describe the temporal behavior of the presentation. The main contribution of this paper is that developers of SMIL documents easily generate them using this rules and algorithm. And, the formal models and modeling functions provide an environment for processing object-oriented documents.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the intellectual structure of domestic LIS in the 1990s and 2000s using author bibliographic coupling analysis (ABCA). First, cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling analysis were performed to examine core subject areas and to map authors in two-dimensional space. Second, network analysis was used to visualize intellectual relationships among subject areas and to reveal the top subject areas for global centrality. Third, the 1990s and 2000s intellectual structures was compared to identify the changes of the intellectual structure over the course of time.

  • XML documents used for exchanging structured documents between heterogeneous distributed systems are spreading among B2B and the industrial world rapidly. This condition brings an object-oriented visualization tool for modeling XML documents. It is hard to apply for DTD - the rule for declaring document type, which is employed in XML, to various industrial field. Thus, W3C announced Recommendation for XML Schema - the rule for declaring new document type which is adaptable to XML and satisfy to user. Document Type which has high reusability and flexibility can be defined owing to that XML Schema is designed by utilization of Object-Oriented-Modelling technique(UML). This document is proposed the specification and an algorithm for mapping XML Schema to UML.

  • Comparing with sequential programming, parallel programming has additional complexity due to the consideration of parallelism, communication and synchronization of processes. A synergism between users and compliers should be established, each assisting the other to produce high quality parallel programs. On the above underlying philosophy, we developed a parallel Object-Oriented specification language, POOSL, as preliminary works. However, it is still likely to hard for users to write parallel program because users have to consider grammar of POOSL and to write text-based parallel program. It would be more desirable to provide users wit visual environment for effective parallel programming. Therefore, we propose a visual programming environment. VEPO(Visual environment for Parallel Object-Oriented Programming), based on POOSL in order that users can develop parallel programs more easily and conveniently. It aims at supporting a programming environment in which users can represent their programs more naturally and visually I parallel manner with object-oriented concept and essential steps during parallel program development such as program specification, compilation, execution and animation of execution are integrated. VEPO has useful features for parallel processing. Especially, complicated parallel codes for synchronization and communication of processes are automatically generated in the translation phase, so users can be relieved of writing error-prone parallel codes. The system is targeted to the transputer-based parallel system, MC-3. The graphic user interface of VEPO was implemented using Visual C++. Visual programs descirbed on VEPO are translated into Inmos C and executed on MC-3.

Event Related Potential and Neuropsychological Tests (사건 관계 전위와 신경심리 검사)

  • Objectives: This research was performed in order to observe the neuropsychological implication and functional anatomical source of event related potentials(ERP) by studying of correlations between event related potentials and neuropsychological tests. Methods: The latency and voltage of P100 of visual evoked potential (VEP), and N120 and P300 of event related potentials were studied in 56 patients and their correlations with neuropsychological tests were computed. Results: The tests showing significant correlation with latency P100 were visual continous performance test(VCPT) and contingent continous performance test(CCPT) without any significant correlation with voltage of P100. In latency of N120 category test and verbal IQ of KWIS showed significant correlation, and in voltage of N120, finger tapping test, VCPT, CCPT and digit symbol test displayed significant correlations. The latency of P300 had significant correlation with trail making A test and Stroop test. In the voltage of P300 significant correlations were shown with trail making B test, digit symbol test and Wechsler memory scale, finger tapping test, stroop test, VCPT and CCPT. Conclusion : N120 may be considered to reflect the function of medial frontal lobe and P300 may be considered to be developed from the subcortical connection of medial temporal lobe, hippocampus, thalamus, basal ganglia and medial frontal lobe.

  • Today, it is very important issue to high quality of software issue on huge scale of code and time-to-market. In the industrial fields still developers focuses on Code based development. Therefore we try to consider two points of views 1) improving the general developer the bad development habit, and 2) maintenance without design, documentation and code visualization. To solve these problems, we need to make the code visualization of code. In this paper, we suggest how to visualize the inner structure of code, and also how to proceed improvement of quality with constructing the Tool-Chain for visualizing Java code's inner structure. For our practical case, we applied Object Code with NIPA's SW Visualization, and then reduced code complexity through quantitatively analyzing and visualizing code based on setting the basic module unit, the class of object oriented code.

Study on Sexuality of Image Signal on TV Commercial (자동차 TV광고에서 나타난 영상기호의 섹슈얼리티 양상 고찰)

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차 TV광고에서 나타나는 섹슈얼리티의 의미화를 영상기호학적 시각에서 연구하는데 그 목표가 있다. 이를 위해서 페미니즘적 비평을 소개하고, '아네트 쿤(Annette Kuhn)'이 제시한 섹슈얼리티 표현의 구조를 파악하였다. 연구는 국내 자동차TV광고 자료 188편을 대상으로 하였다. 이 중 아네트 쿤의 섹슈얼리티 구조적 특징을 가지고 있는 45편의 광고를 선정하였고, 분석한 결과는 각 구조별로 체계적으로 제시하였다. TV광고의 섹슈얼리티 영상기호 분석이 갖는 의미는 다음과 같이 정리될 수 있다. 대중의 시선을 확보하기 위해 성적표현의 비중이 점차 높아지고 있는 상황에서 다분히 주관적 일수 있는 섹슈얼리티를 기호학에 근거를 두고 설명한 아네트 쿤의 연구로 구조화하여 분석함으로써 어느 정도 객관적으로 구체화 할 수 있었다. 또한, 섹슈얼리티와 자동차가 갖는 독특한 관계를 이해한다면 자동차디자인의 기획 단계에서 컨셉 설정에 따른 구체적인 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다. 마지막으로 섹슈얼리티 영상기호의 분석은 TV광고의 제작뿐만 아니라 섹슈얼리티를 표현하고자 하는 다른 여러 영상 제작 과정에 있어서도 실제적인 도움을 줄 수 있겠다.

  • DEVS(Discrete Event system Specification)형식론은 계층적이고 모듈화 된 형식으로 시스템을 설계함으로써 신뢰성 있는 모델링이 가능하도록 이론적으로 잘 정립된 시뮬레이션 방법론이다. 시뮬레이션의 진행과정 및 결과를 표현하기 위한 애니메이션 개발 환경에 있어서도 DEVS 모델의 구조를 반영하여 계층적 애니메이션 환경을 구현 할 수 있다. 계층적 애니메이션은 시뮬레이션 관찰자가 시스템의 특정 레벨에 맞추어 애니메이션 진행 상황을 볼 수 있도록 한다. 이는 일반적으로 시뮬레이션 애니메이션이 갖는 장점인 시스템 이해 및 모델의 신뢰성 검증의 향상 뿐 아니라, 다양한 관점에서 시스템의 변화를 확인 할 수 있다는데 그 필요성이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 계층적인 애니메이션과 그래픽 표현이 가능하도록 하기위해 DEVS 모델의 구조를 반영한 계층성을 갖는 애니메이터(시뮬레이션과 애니메이션의 연결 프로세서)를 설계하였다. 이러한 애니메이터는 모델과 같은 구조로 각 모델에 필요한 애니메이션 객체들을 유지·관리함으로써 계층적 애니메이션을 가능하게 하며, 시뮬레이션의 이산적인 시각 경과와 애니메이션의 연속적인 시간 경과와 애니메이션의 연속적인 시간 경과 사이에 동기화를 용이하게 한다.

Structuralization of CGI Visual Format for Digital Cinema and Digital Animation -Focused on Film - (디지털시네마와 디지털애니메이션을 위한 CGI 시각형식 구조화 -영화<정글북>을 중심으로-)

  • CGI not only performed a crucial role to make cinema and animation evolved into digital cinema and digital animation but also CGI, an important visual format, settled realism-centric spectacle image culture in public commercial cinema and animation. The fact that CGI visual format could be structuralized in three different view points is discovered through Iconicity, photorealism, verisimilitude, uncanny valley, hyperrealism, and spectacular realism discourse research which explain image culture. First, a formative viewpoint that comes up in an iconic difference between drawing and photograph. Secondly, a cognitive viewpoint that sees visually perceived naturalness and abnormality as a realistic probability issue. Lastly, a customary viewpoint which is rooted in aesthetic tradition of cinema and animation. After that, the features of CGI which is used in the movie 'jungle book'(2016) were analyzed using the structured visual format. Consequently, this movie has hyper-realistic photographic iconicity on the base of realistic probability. Also, by following image-aesthetic convention which uses overstated and amplified narrative as a visual format, at the same time, the movie also has sufficient image-aesthetic convention in animation by personified animal character.
