  • In this work, we study smart gloves that can prevent carpal tunnel syndrome when using a mouse. Because the left and right wrist movements are fine, a tensile fabric sensor with a large gauge factor and low hysteresis was required before the study. A universal testing machine was used to calculate each gauge rate on four different fabrics, and the fabric with the least hysteresis was selected. In addition, three attachment methods were analyzed using Arduino to select a method with a large sensor value change. For prototypes made by attaching to the selected fabric, data patterns were analyzed using Arduino. The first method identifies only one sensor (A sensor), and the second identifies two sensors (A and B sensors). When the wrist is bent to the right, tensile fabric sensors are attached to both the left (A sensor) and right (B sensor) sides of the wrist, the A sensor is strained, increasing the △sensor value, and the B sensor is relaxed, decreasing the △sensor value. However, when the wrist was bent to the left, the pattern was analyzed in the opposite direction. Through this study, we examined smart gloves to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome with an algorithm that turns on the LED when the wrist is bent, and based on the results of this study, we will directly use mice on 10 people to identify problems and solve problems when used.

  • The present study evaluated the manual dexterity and usability of conductive gloves when operating touchscreen devices in the cold. Twelve male subjects (23.3±1.5 years in age) participated in three experimental conditions: no gloves, fabric conductive and lambskin conductive gloves. Manual dexterity was tested using both Purdue Pegboard (PP) and ASTM dexterity tests at an air temperature of 5℃ and air humidity of 30%RH. Glove usability was tested through the following touchscreen tests: tap, double tap, long tab, drag, flick, and multi-touch. The results showed that manual dexterity according to the PP (2.5 mm of a pin diameter) and ASTM tests (8 mm of a stick diameter) was worse for the two glove conditions than for the no glove condition (p<.005). PP dexterity was better for the fabric glove condition than for the lambskin glove condition (p<.05); however, there was no difference in ASTM dexterity between the two glove conditions. Hand and finger skin temperatures were higher for the glove conditions than the bare hand condition (p<.05), with no differences between the two glove conditions. The touchscreen usability was the best for the no glove condition, followed by fabric gloves (p<.05). Wearing either fabric or lambskin gloves diminishes hand dexterity while maintaining hand and finger temperatures at higher levels. For improved hand dexterity in dealing with small numbers, letters on a touchscreen in cold environments, we recommend wearing fabric conductive gloves rather than lambskin conductive gloves.

  • Importance of touch equipment and smart learning increases and public institutions and educational facilities are applying smart devices to their daily environments. However, users of public smart devices are at risk of being exposed to the direct and indirect spread of infectious diseases. This study develops an exo-finger that wraps the fingertips of smart device users and is intended to have a disease prevention effect when used on public equipment. An exoskeletal body was fabricated by inserting a secondary material which is a mixture of the activating material, carbon black (CB) and a macromolecular polymer (elastomer) into a mold. This device was confirmed to have a touch function when the CB content was 0.030 wt% or higher, and the content of the elastomer was varied so that it could have a friction force similar to that when a person touches a smart device (a friction coefficient of 2.5). Through experiments, it was concluded that the CB content had little effect on the friction coefficient. As a result of testing the completed prototype on a smart device, it was proven that the developed exoskeletal device can be useful in situations where it is impossible to touch due to wearing protective gears, or when equipment such as gloves is used to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

  • VR(Virtual Reality), which provides realistic services in virtual reality, provides a similar experience using a Head Mounted Display(HMD) device. When the HMD device is worn, it can not recognize the surrounding environment and it is easy to analyze the input pattern of the user with the Shoulder Surfing Attack(SSA) when entering the Personal Identification Number(PIN). In this paper, we propose a method to safeguard the user's password even if the hacker analyzes the input pattern while maintaining the user's convenience. For the first time, we implemented a new type of virtual keypad that deviates from the existing rectangle shape according to the VR characteristics and implemented the lock object for intuitive interaction with the user. In addition, a smart glove using the same sensor as the existing input devices of the VR and a PIN input method suitable for the rotary type are implemented and the safety of the SSA is verified through experiments.

  • To detect Escherichia coli from agri-food and production environments, a device based on IoT (internet of things) technology that can check test results in real time on a mobile phone has been developed. The efficiency of the developed device, which combines an incubator equipped with a UV lamp, a high-resolution camera and software to detect E. coli in the field, was evaluated by measuring the device's temperature, detection limit, and detection time. The device showed a difference between its programmed temperature setting and actual temperature of about 1.0℃. In a detection limit test performed with a single-colony inoculation, a color change to yellow and a florescent signal were detected after 12 and 15 h incubations, respectively. The incubation time also decreased along with increasing bacteria levels. When applying the developed method and device to various samples, including utensils, gloves, irrigation water, seeds, and vegetables, detection rates of E. coli using the device were higher than those of the Korean Food Code method. These results show that the developed protocol and device can efficiently detect E. coli from agri-food production environments and vegetables.
