  • Chemical experiment KS F 2545 and Physical experiment ASTM C 1260 has been accomplished to estimate the potential of alkali aggregate. Used for testing aggregate samples are forest aggregate and recycled aggregate which collected in Gangwon province Samcheok and Pyeongchang, Jeollabuk province Gimje and Kochang, and Gyeongsangnam province Goryeong. As the results of chemical experiment confirmed that if silicate rock and carbonate rock are mixed, reduction in alkalinity is increase. So it has been identified that case makes a disturb at the result of alkali aggregate reaction. In 9 out of the 62 aggregate samples check dissolved silica exceeding 100 mmol/ℓ. and mortar bar length increase rate confirmed that 5 of 9 chemical method aggregates were 0.1~0.2% and 2 aggregates were 0.2%. As a result of the alkaline aggregate reaction test using the chemical method and the mortar bar method, the aggregates showing alkali aggregate reaction are sandstone and tuff aggregates. Therefore, Alkali aggregate reaction tests are required to use clastic sedimentary rocks and volcanic pyroclastic rocks aggregates.

  • Nowadays, all the world face to the global warming problems due to the emission of $CO_2$. From the previous studies, recycled aggregates were used as an alkali activator in blast furnace slag to achieve zero-cement concrete, and favorable results of obtaining strength were achieved. In this study, gypsum and incineration waste ash were used as the additional alkali activation and effects of the gypsum and incineration waste ash to enhance the performance of the mortar were tested. Results showed that although the replacement ratio of 0.5% of incineration waste ash and 20% of anhydrous gypsum resulted in the low of mortar at the early age, while it improved the later strength and achieved the similar strength to that of conventional mortar (at 91 days).

  • It is possible that aggregates add on to geopolymer based fly ash to mix mortar and concrete like cement. This is necessary to evaluate mineral composition, particle shape, surface, size distribution, density and absorption ratio for fine aggregates due to few detailed research to examine influence of fine aggregates properties on unhardened geopolymer concrete. In this research, used two different fine aggregates, Jumunjin sand(having quartz, mica, feldspar, pyroxene in mineral composition, more than 96% of total size between -0.60 and +0.30mm, angular shape and rough surface) and ISO sand(having almost all quartz in mineral composition, more than 51% size between -1.40 and +0.60mm, simultaneously varied size distribution, spherical shape and smooth surface). After an experimental result of the varied ratio of Si/Al=1.0-4.1 geopolymer paste, mix proportion respectively applied Si/Al=1.5 having the highest compressive strength to mortar and Si/Al=3.5 having the highest consistency to concrete. Geopolymer mortar by mixing with Jumunjin and ISO sand in varied range of 20-50wt.% showed flow size increase between 69.5 and 112.0mm, between 70.5 and 126.0mm respectively. Geopolymer concrete at an addition of 77wt.% of total aggregates ratio showed that average compressive strength was 32MPa and the consistency was favorable to molding. Since ISO sand observing varied size distribution, spherical shape, smooth surface, low absorption ratio resulted in advantageous properties on consistency of geopolymer, geopolymer concrete can be suitable for using the fine aggregates similar to ISO sand.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of recycled aggregates powder (RP) contents on recycled aggregates (RA) using fly-ash (FA) mortar in a condition of zero cement targeting earth filling materials, and the results can be summarized as follows. First, there was a tendency that as RP contents increased, W/B and air contents increased also. In the case of compressive strength, the strength was hardly developed at the early age, which was prior to 14 days; however, with the starting point of 14 days of age, strength of around 1.5~2.0 MPa was developed when it arrived at 28 days. At a curing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$, the more RP contents increased, the more the compressive strength increased in comparison with FA 100% at all levels except RP 100 %, showing the highest compressive strength at RP 25 %. At a curing temperature of $35^{\circ}C$, the temperature-dependence appeared to be large, as the RP contents were decreased compared to the curing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. In addition, based on SEM analysis, this study was able to confirm that a pozzolanic reaction formed by an alkali stimulus of RA with the lapse of certain days even in 100 percent FA, causing the densification of tissues, and with RP 25%, hydrate was created the most densely by the hydration of unhydrated cement particles and pozzolanic reaction of FA.

  • Nowadays, research about using recycled aggregate as alkali activator has been investigated. By the mechanism of Alkali activation, blast furnace slag's potential hydraulis property would be activated. Thee application of this technique is considered as fit for low strength concrete, so it's suitable in concrete secondary production such as bricks and blocks. Aside alkali activator, sulfate could also activate blast furnace slag's potential hydranlis property. In this research, gypsum(CaSO4·2H2O)has been added with blast furnace slag. Fundamental experiment such as flow and strength has been tested to evalnate effect of gypsum's activation property.

  • As the amount of construction wastes increase, reuse of recycled materials is being considered in research areas. While there are many experimental investigations focusing on development of mortar and concrete using the recycled materials, the studies regarding the fiber-reinforced cement composites (FRCCs) using recycled materials are still limited. In this paper, an experimental attempt has been made to investigate the effect of recycled fine aggregates and fly ash on the mechanical properties of PVA FRCCs. The cement and natural sand were respectively replaced by fly ash and recycled fine aggregates at two content levels, 25% and 50%. Ten types of PVA FRCCs mixes were fabricated and tested to investigate the flexural, compressive and direct tensile behaviors. The test results show that flexural, compressive and direct tensile strength were decreased with increase in fly ash content at all ages. In particular, flexural, compressive and direct tensile strengths of specimens, containing 50% recycled fine aggregates and 50% fly ash, showed the lowest values. The modulus of elasticity of specimens showed similar trend to the 28-day compressive strength. Poisson's ratio was increased with increase in fly ash and recycled fine aggregates content.
