  • The problem of estimating the parameters of k-population Weibull distributions is discussed under the prior of ordered scale parameters. Parameters are estimated by the Gibbs sampling method. Since the conditional posterior distribution of the shape parameter in the Gibbs sampler is not log-concave, the shape parameter is generated by the adaptive rejection sampling. Finally, we applied this estimation methodology to the data discussed in Nelson (1970).

  • We discussed estimation of parameters using Gibbs sampler under order restriction on the parameters. Two well-knwon probability models, ordered exponential family and binomial distribution, are considered. We derived full conditional distributions(FCD) and also used one-for-one sampling algorithm to sample from the FCD's under order restrictions. Finally through two real data sets we compared three kinds of estimators; isotonic regression estimator, isotonic Bayesian estimator and the estimator using Gibbs sampler.

Comparison of several criteria for ordering independent components (독립성분의 순서화 방법 비교)

  • Independent component analysis is a multivariate approach to separate mixed signals into original signals. It is the most widely used method of blind source separation technique. ICA uses linear transformations such as principal component analysis and factor analysis, but differs in that ICA requires statistical independence and non-Gaussian assumptions of original signals. PCA have a natural ordering based on cumulative proportion of explained variance; howerver, ICA algorithms cannot identify the unique optimal ordering of the components. It is meaningful to set order because major components can be used for further analysis such as clustering and low-dimensional graphs. In this paper, we compare the performance of several criteria to determine the order of the components. Kurtosis, absolute value of kurtosis, negentropy, Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic and sum of squared coefficients are considered. The criteria are evaluated by their ability to classify known groups. Two types of data are analyzed for illustration.

  • 정규분포에 대한 적합도 검정은 실제적인 측면이나 이론적인 측면에서 그 중요성을 무시할 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 이변량 정규분포의 적합도 검정을 위한 통계량을 제안하였다. 주요 아이디어는 모든 가능한 이변량 분포의 선형조합을 고려하여, 그 선형조합이 순서통계량을 이론적인 분위수와 비교하는 것이다. 또한 제안된 통계량의 극한분포가 Gaussian process의 적분의 형태로 표시될 수 있음을 보였다.

Ordinal Variable Selection in Decision Trees (의사결정나무에서 순서형 분리변수 선택에 관한 연구)

  • The most important component in decision tree algorithm is the rule for split variable selection. Many earlier algorithms such as CART and C4.5 use greedy search algorithm for variable selection. Recently, many methods were developed to cope with the weakness of greedy search algorithm. Most algorithms have different selection criteria depending on the type of variables: continuous or nominal. However, ordinal type variables are usually treated as continuous ones. This approach did not cause any trouble for the methods using greedy search algorithm. However, it may cause problems for the newer algorithms because they use statistical methods valid for continuous or nominal types only. In this paper, we propose a ordinal variable selection method that uses Cramer-von Mises testing procedure. We performed comparisons among CART, C4.5, QUEST, CRUISE, and the new method. It was shown that the new method has a good variable selection power for ordinal type variables.

Relationship between orders of signs and vote within parties in electing local district councilors during the 7th nationwide local election (제7회 전국동시지방선거 중 기초의원선거에서의 정당 내 기호 순서와 득표 순서의 관계 분석)

  • We examined the relationship between the order of signs and the order of vote within parties in electing local district councilors during the 7th nationwide local election held on June 13th, 2018. We analyzed election data for respective cases that include two, three, four candidates within the same party. In most cases, the candidate with sign 'Ga' gained more than other candidates in the same party, showing a need for provisional measures. In addition, a difference in voting tendency was found between in-house voting and early outside voting when there were two candidates in the Democratic Party of Korea as well as for when there were two candidates in the Liberty Korea Party.

  • An Asymptotically distribution-free test is considered for testing parallelism against ordered alternatives in two-way layouts. The test procedure is based on a statistic which uses Jonckheere's idea after adjusting the block effects. Large-sample properties including the efficiency and limiting distribution of the test statistic are obtained. The proposed test is compared with other tests through a small-sample Monte Carlo study.

  • A nonparametric test for the parallelisim of k regression lines against ordered alternatives is proposed. The test statistic is weighted Jonckheere-type statistic applied to slope estimators obtained from each lines. The distribution of the proposed test statistic is asymptotically distribution-free. From the viewpoint of efficiencies, the proposed test desirable properties and is more efficient than the other nonparametric tests.

의사결정나무에서 순서형 분리 변수 선택에 관한 연구

  • 지금까지 의사결정나무에서 분리 변수의 선택에 관한 연구는 많았으나, 대부분 연속형 변수와 명목형 변수에 국한되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 순서형 변수에 주목하여 CART, QUEST, CRUISE 등 기존 알고리즘과 본 연구에서 제안하는 비모수적 접근 방법인 K-S test, framer-von Misos test 방법의 변수 선택력을 비교하였다. 그 결과 본 연구에서 제안하는 framer-von Mises test 방법이 다른 알고리즘에 비하여, 변수 선택력과 안정성에 있어서 좋은 성과를 보였다.
