Most of shrinkage is mainly caused by autogenous shrinkage in Ultra high strength steel-fiber reinforced cementitious composites(UHSFRC). water to binder ratio is very low, about 0.2. It occurs faster hydration and cause a large amount of autogenous shrinkage in early ages. the large autogenous shrinkage can cause harmful cracks in a structure and deteriorate the designed structural performance. therefore it is very important to predict the autogenous shrinkage accurately. The study about the autogenous shrinkage of UHSFRC was carried out in this paper. through comparing with JSCE recommendations for UHSFRC, it was found out that UHSFRC in this study showed higher autogenous shrinkage than that of JSCE. And Applicability of early proposed models by some researchers was also investigated. the analytical results let us know that Miyazawa's model showed the best agreement with the experimentally obtained autogenous shrinkage of UHSFRC.
This research investigates the effects of shrinkage reducing agent (SRA) on the mechanical behavior of strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC). SHCC material with specified compressive strength of 50 MPa was mixed and tested in this study. All SHCC mixes reinforced with volume fraction of 2.2% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and test variables are type and dosage of shrinkage reducing agents. The shrinkage reducing materials used in this study are phase change material as the thermal stress reducing materials that have the ability to absorb or release the heat. The effect of SRA was examined based on the change in length caused by shrinkage and hardened mechanical properties, specially compressive, tensile and flexural behaviors, of SHCC material. It was noted that SRA reduces change in length caused by shrinkage at early age. SRA can also improve the tensile and flexural strengths and toughness of SHCC material used in this study.

Recently, active researches are conducted on high performance concrete(HPC) exhibiting high strength and high fluidity. These researches are resulting in increased applications on real structures. In order to satisfy the required performances, HPC makes use of large quantities of binder and presents low water-cementitious material ratio. Such mixing is increasing significantly the autogenous shrinkage, which subsequently is likely to favor the potential development of cracks. Therefore, we investigated the effect of used materials and mix proportions on the shrinkage properties of HPC, and of the use of expansive additives and shrinkage reducing agents on the HPC. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC using blast furnace slag are tend to be increased, in some case have the potential development of cracks by only the autogenous shrinkage. Also the using method in combination with expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent is more effective than the separately using method of that.

Super high strength concrete tends to have compact tissue structure, and to have large reduction of volume by hydration reaction or large shrinkage by autogenous shrinkage. Thus, this study conducted basic research on the control of autogenous shrinkage of super high strength concrete using gypseous expansive additive.
The purpose of the present study is first to refine the mathematical material models for moisture and temperature distributions in early-age concrete and then to incorporate those models into finite element procedure. The three dimensional finite element program developed in the present study can determine the degree of hydration, temperature and moisture distribution in hardening concrete. It is assumed that temperature and humidity fields are fully uncoupled and only the degree of hydration is coupled with two state variables. Mathematical formulation of degree of hydration Is based on the combination of three rate functions of reaction. The effect of moisture condition as well as temperature on the rate of reaction is considered in the degree of hydration model. In moisture transfer, diffusion coefficient is strongly dependent on the moisture content in pore system. Many existing models describe this phenomenon according to the composition of mixture, especially water to cement ratio, but do not consider the age dependency. Microstructure is changing with the hydration and thus transport coefficients at early ages are significantly higher because the pore structure in the cement matrix is more open. The moisture capacity and sink are derived from age-dependent desorption isotherm. Prediction of a moisture sink due to the hydration process, i.e. self-desiccation, is related to autogenous shrinkage, which may cause early-age cracking in high strength and high performance concrete. The realistic models and finite element program developed in this study provide fairly good results on the temperature and moisture distribution for early-age concrete and correlate very well with actual test data.
High performance concrete is prone to large autogenous shrinkage due to its low water to binder ratio (W/B). The autogenous shrinkage of concrete is caused by self-desiccation as a result of water consumption by the hydration of cement. In this study, the autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete with and without fly ash was Investigated. The properties of fresh concrete, slump loss, air content, and flowability as well as the mechanical properties, compressive strength and modulus of elasticity, were also measured. Test results was shown that the autogenous shrinkage of concrete increased as the W/B decreased. For the same W/B, the autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete with fly ash was considerably reduced although the development of its compressive strength was delayed at early ages. Furthermore, the autogenous shrinkage and compressive strength of high strength concrete were more rapidly developed than those of normal strength concrete. It was concluded that fly ash could improve the quality of high strength concrete with respect to the workability and autogenous shrinkage.

In this paper, tests were carried out to monitor the effect of the curing temperature on autogenous shrinkage of the high strength cement mortar incorporating silica fume, blast furnace slag and fly ash ranged from 10%~30% by mass of cement. The curing temperatures were varied from $5^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. According to results, the setting time exhibited to delay with increase of admixture and drop of temperature. As for the effect of curing temperature on autogenous shrinkage, the increase of SF and BS resulted in an increase of autogenous shrinkage, while the use of FA decrease. The higher the curing temperature is, the greater the autogenous shrinkage is. This is due to the accelerated hydration rate of cement. It is found that the maturity does not consider the effect of curing temperature on autogenous shrinkage.

This study forms part of a research project that was carried out on the development and application of high-strength concrete for large underground spaces. In order to develop 50MPa high-strength concrete, eight optimal mixtures with different portions of fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag were selected. For assessments of shrinkage characteristics, free shrinkage tests with prismatic specimens and shrinkage crack tests were performed. The compressive strength was more than 30MPa at 7days, and stable design strength was acquired at 28days. High-strength concrete containing blast furnace slag shows large autogenous shrinkage, while large shrinkage deformations and cracks will occur when mixtures are replaced with large volumes of cementitious materials. Hence, for these high-strength concrete mixtures, the curing conditions of initial ages that affect the reaction of hydration and drying effects need to be checked.

The performance of high-early strength pavement concrete for large areas is influenced by the physical and chemical environment during service life. Generally, penetration, diffusion, and absorption of harmful materials that exist outside the concrete cause damage to its structure. Thus, we have to use a mixture for durability to keep the required quality for the planned service life. Moreover, in using high-early-strength cement and accelerators, a high heat of hydration to create the initial strength can cause cracks. Based on evaluations from optimal mix proportions of high-early-strength pavement concrete for large areas, we conducted water permeability, abrasion resistance, freeze-thaw, plastic, drying, and autogenous shrinkage tests. Test result showed that a mix of accelerator and PVA fibers showed excellent performance.

Very-early strength latex-modified concrete (VES-LMC) was developed for the purpose of fast-track overlay of a concrete bridge deck under heavy traffic, concentrated on the workability, durability, and strength gain so that it can be opened to the traffic only three hours after its placement. The mixture of VES-LMC might accompany very high heat of hydration at early-age because of its inherent rapid hardening property and could have susceptibility to autogenous shrinkage because of its relatively low water-cement ratio. This study evaluated the effect of the latex-cement ratio(L/C) both of the constant and variable slumps on the autogenous shrinkage of VES-LMC by carrying out simple temperature rise test and early-age shrinkage experiment. Test results are as follows: The latex contributes on the enhancement of the concrete durability but has little effect on its hydration and the accompanied heat of hydration in VES-LMC. Autogenous shrinkage increased with the increase in latex-cement ratio at variable slumps and its pattern followed regularly a logarithmic increase. However, the influence of water-cement ratio and latex-cement ratios for the test specimens at constant slump on early-age autogenous shrinkage property was found to be minor due to the simultaneous effect of the two experimental variables.
