  • The purposes of this study were to development and verify the effect of educational program apply on STEAM for the mathematical prodigy. To accomplish these purposes literature review on development of the program and qualitative study were conducted. The mixed-model design was applied for this qualitative experimental study. The conclusions of this study were as follows. First, the program for mathematical prodigy education applied on the conceptual model of STEAM integration approach was developed. Second, a learning satisfaction about constitution of the workbook was lowly. Third, principal of STEAM was the best interest and difficult of the program applied on STEAM. Fourth, the creativity and problem solving ability was founded about angle and velocity of mathematical domain and making the Angrybirds Game on GeoGebra environment. In spite of difficulty about principal of the Angrybirds Game, confidence and satisfaction were founded about a result product.

  • This study is on the teaching method for the students who belong to the same school (one, the gifted class, passed gifted education of Science High school ), 1-1, face-to-face learning (two, good students in regular classroom) with a teacher, paired learning teams (4 people, gifted classes), and group lessons (20 people, gifted classes) and using the justification analysis framework tool(PIRSO) of Kim(2010) analyzes the justification element of the students in the group classes regular polygons paper was to explore ways to improve the justification of the folding maps activities. As a result, the width of the largest polygon difficulty level appropriate to the class for gifted elementary school classes but the individual learning style of the 1-1 face-to-face with a teacher or discussion with colleagues and cooperative approach is justified, rather than the material of the study of origami activities it turned out to be more effective in improving the level of justification. Unlike the individual learning activities, the exploration for class is the need to strain in parallel to the student is selected as needed, rather than serial manner was confirmed that it is necessary to clearly present problems even from the beginning. Development of teaching through the implications obtained from this method of reconstruction activities and proposed improvement measures for questioning.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate Korean mathematics & science teachers' perception on the special education for the gifted, and to investigate if there are differences on their perception about it among the mathematics & science teachers when their affiliation institutes for the gifted are different. Their affiliation institutes for the gifted education are divided into two groups, which are the city office of education, and science high school. The research problems of this study are as follows. Firstly, are there any differences of their perception according to their affiliation institutes for the gifted education are divided into two groups, which are the city office of education, science high school? Secondly, are there any differences of their perception according to their affiliation institutes for the gifted education are divided into two groups, which are the mathematics teachers, science teachers? For the study, 26 mathematics teachers & 36 science teachers were sampled from the Institutes for the Gifted Education in Busan Metro-city & the Busan Science High School. and then 34-item-questionnaire developed by the author was administered to them. The research results are as follows. Firstly, the question as to participation in special education for the gifted in mathematics & science, the positive answer has been dominant. Teachers who were going to participate in special education for the gifted in mathematics & science have answered affirmatively. Secondly, perception of the organization of a class of the gifted in mathematics & science is very different between the group of institutes for the gifted education in the city office and the group of institutes for the gifted education in the science high school. Thirdly, perception of selection of gifted students for special education for the gifted in mathematics & science is very different between group of the mathematics teachers and group of the science teachers. Fourthly, 46.7% of the total agree with management of the gifted education in the science high school, 46.7% of the total agree with separation of management about mathematics & science.

  • This study analysed 8 gifted students' behavior of using calculator in the 5th grade based on qualitative data of direct proportion class with the utilization of the calculator. Pretesting with questionnaire had been made to verify students' developmental stages of proportional reasoning, and the stage was categorized according to Baxter & Junker (2001). The learning contents were made of worksheet, and the researcher held the class for 60 minutes. For analysing data, record of class was gathered to make a transcript and analysed it with Guin & Trouche' behavior of using calculator type. According to the result, each type of the behavior affected students' development of proportional reasoning differently.

  • Growing in its size, the contents of the teaching-learning programs for mathematically gifted children from A program in Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education were examined in terms of the individual subjects provided through the courses of gifted education programs, and it was evaluated based on the revised version of the existing module. As a result, the educational objectives of teaching-learning program were clear, differentiated and obtainable. Among the program, the advanced parts were more than the selective parts, which mainly consisted of numbers and calculation, shapes, regularity and problem solving parts and had latest contents of research in balance. Additionally, every part of the program needs mathematical and creative thinking and approach and has proper evaluation index for problem solving. The presented materials in the programs are specific and appropriate, though some of them did not suggest the evaluation index for cultivating personality and value clearly and the reference books. The teaching-learning programs were focusing on problem-based learning and cooperative learning and using performance assessment for evaluation.

  • As for the education for the gifted, distant teaming and intense teaming are going side by side presently This study investigated the aspects of affective variables for the distant learning which is provided to the gifted during the semester. Especially we examined how the gifted finish the given tasks by observing energy and persistence in solving problems, and the interactions between students & students and between teachers & students for the science education for the gifted. Further, we also examined how teacher leads the gifted, and the level of satisfaction as well as obstacles for the distant teaming.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the curricula for mathematically gifted focused on contents and graded sequences of those. Three cases of the curricula for the mathematically gifted including teachers' lesson plans and activity sheets for students were collected from gifted education institutes attached the Metropolitan Office of Education. By qualitative analysis, three cases are compared. The first, in a view of educational contents on mathematics, characteristics of the educational programs were investigated. The second, how these contents were arranged according to grades was inquired. On the basis of the results, further studies can be proposed as follows. First, there is a need to study the criteria for setting the educational contents and the sequences of education for the mathematically gifted connecting elementary mathematics education curricula. Second, it is necessary to form the networks in which can allow communication among teachers and researchers for the mathematically gifted.

  • Math classes has been regarded as an independent area of a teacher and his/her students of a particular class. In Recent discussions about the professional development of teachers, for the improvement of practices, the point of view of that the community of teachers must work together is spreading. What are the considerations in organization and operation of learning communities for professional development of teachers? In this study, we analyzed the case of the learning community of math teachers in a Science Academy for the purpose of improving math classes to promote the participation of learners. Research results show that teachers share the principles and goals of mathematics teaching through the learning community. Also, through participation in learning communities, the members were practicing the lessons improved by reflection on the lessons of his/her and their colleagues. These results provide implication that it is important to provide opportunities for objectifying his/her classes through the learning community for a substantial improvement in math classes.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine into how the mathematically gifted cope with ambiguity when they are encountered to learn via resolving ambiguity. In this study 6 gifted students are asked to resolve the ambiguity. Participant in this study appeared to experience the need of mathematical justification and the flexible change of perspective. The gifted have constructed unified mathematical knowledge by making a relation between two incompatible perspective in the process of resolving the ambiguity. We suggest that dealing with ambiguity in mathematics class can be a good opportunity for enhancing the gifted student mathematics education.

  • In this study, we will develope and apply the education program for mathematical creativity, with the open-ended problems about development figure. The purpose of this study is to categorize the elements of the mathematical creativity in consideration of the real class, and is to design a education program that reflects this. To do this, from 2006 through 2014, by targeting 205 gifted students in the sixth grade until eighth grade of Busan, Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk were carried out in class. Also in this study, we will examine the process and the results of its application. As a result, students' outcomes and behavioral reactions brought about a qualitative development of the program, and students became aware of the participants in the development of the program. These results suggest the aim of developing a education program for mathematical creativity, as well as the effectiveness of this education program.
