  • The purpose of this study is to investigate development direction of a mathematics subject classroom. This study started with an analysis of previously conducted studies to investigate. After that, I selected and visited eight schools thatapplied the Mathematics subject classroom for interviews. Observations and interviews with math teachers were executed to figure out circumstances and operational status of the mathematics subject classroom. As the result of this research, the Mathematics subject classroom required various improvements in the facilities and the curriculum systems. Throughout this study, Isuggestedfive principles for teaching and learning. These principles are Creativity, Communication, Cooperation, Mathematical thinking and Problem solving. Furthermore, two subject classroom models for teaching and learning of mathematics - the cooperative learning room and the media room - were designed. These room required different resources and served distinct function.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the principles for the development of mathematics textbook based on storytelling through literature review, textbook development, and classroom implementation. Mathematics textbook based on storytelling has been developed to help students learn mathematics interesting and meaningful. The principle for the development principles include as the principle of context, process-oriented, communication, and diversity. The developed mathematics textbooks was implemented in high school mathematics classes in order to investigate the effectiveness of the textbooks. We analyzed the data collected by the survey and the interview to find that the mathematics textbook based on storytelling had positive effect on teaching and learning of mathematics. We discussed the implication for the future development and implementation of mathematics textbook based on storytelling.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate preservice mathematics teachers' perceptions for mathematics digital textbook. To do this, we provided a questionnaire to 52 preservice mathematics teachers and analysed the questionnaires. The questionnaire was investigated using 5 point scale. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the preservice mathematics teachers' perception on effectiveness of mathematics digital textbook was positive. Second, the preservice mathematics teachers' perception on interaction of mathematics digital textbook was normal. Third, the preservice mathematics teachers' perception on interest of mathematics digital textbook was positive. Fourth, the preservice mathematics teachers' perception on students' health of mathematics digital textbook was normal. Fifth, the preservice mathematics teachers' perception on class-management of mathematics digital textbook was normal. Sixth, some preservice mathematics responded that mathematics digital textbook was efficient to teach a function or a geometry, others responded that paper textbook was more efficient to teach a mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between major subjects of industrial circle high school and mathematics matched with present 2007 revision curriculum. We compare and analyze learning contents in industrial circle's math education via various aspects including methods of explanations, contents domains, and contents levels. The analysis followed by the research study performed with literature study of curriculums and text books. Our research indicates that school curriculum should be reflected relation between industrial high school's each major course and mathematics, so each major course curriculum should be different. Many contents beyond high school mathematics were founded. Hence suitable mathematical maturity and levels within standard high school math curriculum should be considered when one make text books of major course in industrial circle high school.

  • Despite the necessity and significance of mathematical competencies in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum, there has been lack of studies analyzing textbooks in which such competencies are intended in detail through various tasks. Given this background, this paper analyzed how mathematical competencies and their sub-elements have been represented in the mathematics textbooks for third and fourth grade. The findings of this study showed that 'communication' was the most prevalent mathematical competence, followed by 'reasoning', 'creativity and integration', 'information processing', 'attitude and practice', and 'problem solving' in order. This study also explored the characteristics of mathematical competencies in the textbooks by analyzing which sub-elements per competence were popular. With illustrative examples, this paper is expected to provide for textbook developers with implications on how to represent mathematical competencies throughout the textbooks.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive implications for the development of the next curriculum and textbooks by comparing and analyzing the textbooks of the 2015 revised high school mathematics curriculum <Mathematics for Economics> and social studies curriculum <Economics>. In the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks, economic terms and function notations should be introduced. Additionally, the use of graphs for economic-related functions is different from the use of graphs in mathematics in the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks. For these reasons, the usage of economic terms, function notations, and function graphs covered in the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks were compared and analyzed with the usage in the <Economics> textbooks. In the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks, economic terms that are highly related to mathematics are defined and presented. Contrary to the conventions of mathematics and economics, the function notations in the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks were used inconsistently because uppercase and lowercase letters were mixed in the function notations. Function graphs in the <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks had differences in the range of values represented by the variables regarding axes and scaling. The <Mathematics for Economics> textbooks did not provide a mathematical interpretation of the translation or slope. In the course of <Mathematics for Economics>, it is necessary to specify considerations for teaching and learning, and assessment in the curriculum to promote students' understanding of mathematics and economics. The descriptions in the curriculum document and textbooks of <Mathematics for Economics> should be supplemented to provide learning opportunities for mathematical interpretation of economics-related contents.

  • This paper analyzed the units of capacity and weight in the mathematics textbooks in terms of units, relationship between the units, and the need of standard units. The results of this study showed that there were differences in the representation of the units, the notation of units, the types of units, and the representation of basic amount of units in the mathematics textbooks developed by the 5th, 6th, 7th, 2007 revised, and 2009 revised national mathematics curriculum respectively. The mathematics textbook developed by the 2009 revised mathematics curriculum was found to be generally consistent with the International System of Units (SI). However, the way of defining 1kg through the weight of water was found to be different from the SI. The relationship between the units was consistently described only with a written sentence in the previous mathematics textbooks, but the 2009 revised mathematics textbook presents questions and pictures to foster students' understanding of the relationship. Finally, activities and questions are required for students to recognize the universality and convenience of the standard units through the inconvenience of arbitrary units. Based on these results, this paper provides implications for the development of mathematics textbooks in the units of capacity and weight.

  • Mathematics and science courses have a deep connectednessGnterrelationship). This research analysis their connectedness focused mathematics courses. Textbooks which were used in seventh education process were used in this analysis and the connectedness was further analyzed. From this analysis, three norms study various cases where mathematics courses affect science courses. The three norms are defined by order of curriculum of mathematics and natural science courses that have interrelationship. Lastly, a method to organize to connect mathematics and natural science course is discussed in detail in two aspects. Thorough this research, improvement in study achievement ability is expected by positive effects of mathematics courses to science courses.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the levels of cognitive demand of the tasks for developing t he mathematical core competencies presented in the "Mathematics" textbook of the first y ear of high school developed according to the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum. "Mathematics" textbook included 4999 mathematics tasks, of which 703 were tasks for developing the mathematical competency. Analysis of 703 mathematical tasks according to the analysis framework of Stein, Smith, Henningsen, and Silver (2000) showed that 61.5% of students required high cognitive levels, 38.5% required low cognitive levels, and the types of tasks were as follows: Low-M 1.0%, Low-P 37.5%, High-P 57.8%, High-D 3.7%. It w as found that most of the tasks for the purpose were tasks that led to understanding mathematical concepts, principles, and processes along procedural processes.
