In this paper, a new parallel computation method, which fully utilize the parallel processors both in mesh generation and FEM calculation for 2D/3D process simulation, is presented. High performance parallel FEM and parallel linear algebra solving technique was showed that excessive computational requirement of memory size and CPU time for the three-dimensional simulation could be treated successively. Our parallelized numerical solver successfully interpreted the transient enhanced diffusion (TED) phenomena of dopant diffusion and irregular shape of R-LOCOS within 15 minutes. Monte Carlo technique requires excessive computational requirement of CPU time. Therefore high performance parallel solving technique were employed to our cascade sputter simulation. The simulation results of Our sputter simulator allowed the calculation time of 520 sec and speedup of 25 using 30 processors. We found the optimized number of ion injection of our MC sputter simulation is 30,000.
A hybrid finite difference method for the longitudinal dispersion equation was developed. The method is based on combining the Holly-Preissmann scheme with the fifth-degree Hermite interpolating polynomial and the generalized Crank-Nicholson scheme. Longitudinal dispersion of an instantaneously-loaded pollutant source was simulated by the model and other characteristics-based numerical methods. Computational results were compared with the exact solution. The present method was free from wiggles regardless of the Courant number, and exactly reproduced the location of the peak concentration. Overall accuracy of the computation increased for smaller value of the weighting factor, $\theta$ of the model. Larger values of $\theta$ overestimated the peak concentration. Smaller Courant number gave better accuracy, in general, but the sensitivity was very low, especially when the value of $\theta$ was small. From comparisons with the hybrid method using the third-degree interpolating polynomial and with split-operator methods, the present method showed the best performance in reproducing the exact solution as the advection becomes more dominant.
In this paper, Acousto-Optical tomography is modeled by a linear integral equation and an inverse problem involving a diffusion equation in n-spatial dimensions. We make two-step mathematical model. First, we solve a linear integral equation. Assuming the optical energy fluence rate has been recovered from the previous equation, the absorption coefficient ${\mu}$ is then reconstructed by solving an inverse problem. Numerical experiments are presented for the case n=2. The traditional gradient descent method is used for the numerical simulations. The result of the gradient descent method produces the blurring effect. To get rid of the blurring effect, we suggest the total variation regularization for the minimization problem.
Sea water volume intruded from the lock gated was compted by a one-dimensional numerical model and the extent of diffusion of sea water was evaluated for that. The volume of intruded sea water, in the exchange processes of salt and fresh waters, was computed by the conceptual model considering the tidal level, volume of chamber, volume of canal, and operation period only, It was divided into some cases according to whether ships enter or leave the canal and whether the level of tide is lower or higher than that of water level in canal. The model, developed in this work, assumed that intruded sea water is well mixed in the canal; and complete is the exchange of waters between sea and canal. The simulation case was divided into two categories according to whether the water was added from the Han River or not.

A horizontal 2-D model which includes the wetting-drying treatment technique in the intertidal zone is established for the prediction of tidal changes and contaminant transport due to the development of Incheon coastal zone. The flow model is verified by the measurement data at Jeong-Do, and then the computed values are closely matched to the observed water elevations and velocities of main-flow direction. And then, the tidal change patterns are simulated using this model before and after the construction of the Youngjongdo New Airport and Shihwa Seadike. In the spring tide condition, pollutants transport pattern is also simulated for the arbitrary pollutants loads. By the analysis of this numerical simulation results, the velocities after development are decreased, and discharged pollutants are mainly transported by the advection along a narrow deep trough. Thus, this model can be used as the compatible prediction model for the tidal change and pollutant transport due to the development plan of Incheon coastal zone.
Numerical analysis of convection-dominated transport problems are challenging because of dual characteristics of the governing equation. In the finite element method, a strategy is to modify the test function to weight more in the upwind direction. This is called as the Petrov-Galerkin method. In this paper, both N+1 and N+2 Petrov-Galerkin methods are applied to transport problems at high grid Peclet number. Frequency fitting algorithm is used to obtain optimal levels of N+2 upwinding, and the results are discussed. Also, a new Petrov-Galerkin method, named as "Optimal Test Function Petrov-Galerkin Method," is proposed in this paper. The test function of this numerical method changes its shape depending upon relative strength of the convection to the diffusion. A numerical experiment is carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

Public policy responses to the digital/information revolution and the micro-economic reforms that it facilitates have inspired exploration of the scope for local government implementation of digital spatial data handling(DSDH) of information relating to, among other things, asset inventory, environmental and utility management, address management, and planning. The results from these explorations are such that few doubt the value of bringing the public policies to practice, but diffusion rate and pattern of the approaches demonstrated by the scoping experiments will reflect institutional/cultural matters, indicators of the relative significance of which might be at least partly predicted from appraisal of case studies. This argument is exemplified by reference to case studies in adoption of DSDH by local government organizations in Korea and in Australia.

A diffusion model of radioactive liquid effluents is developed and applied for YGN NPP's site, based on the Gaussian plume type model. Due to the complexity of oceanic diffusion characteristics of YGN site, a simple and reliable statistical model based on Reg. Guide 1.113 is developed. Also, a computer code package to calculate dilution factors as a function of plant operation conditions and pathway of radioactive materials. A liquid effluents diffusion model is developed by dividing the diffusion range into two categories, i. e, a near field mixing region and a far field mixing region. In the near field, the initial mixing is affected by a buoyance force, a high initial turbulence and momentum which is characterized by a plant operation condition and environmental conditions. The far field mixing is similar to gaseous effluents diffusion. So, beyond the near field region, wellknown Gaussian plume model was adopted. A different area averages of Gaussian plume equation was taken for each radioactive exposure pathway. As a result, we can get different dilution factors for different pathways. Results shows that present dilution factors used for YGN ODCM is too much overestimated compared with dilution factors calculated with the developed model.
Surface damage due to subsidence is an inevitable consequence of underground mining, which may be immediate or delayed for many years. The surface damage due to abandoned underground mine is observed to be two subsidence types such as simple sinkhole or trough formation to a large scale sliding of the ground from with in the subsided area. An evaluation of the risk of a subsidence occurrence is vital in the areas affected by mining subsidence. For a subsidence prediction or a risk evaluation, there has been used various methods using empirical models, profile functions, influence functions and numerical models. In this study, a simple but efficient evaluation method of subsidence hazard is suggested, which is based on a diffusion theory and uses just information about geometry of caving and topography. The diffusion model has an analogous relationship with granular model which can explain a mechanism of subsidence. The diffusion model is applied for the evaluation of subsidence hazard in abandoned metal and coal mines. The model is found to be a simple but efficient tool because it needs information of geometry of caving and gangway and the topography.
