Analysis of runoff characteristics for Geumjeong mountain wetland (금정산 산지습지의 유출특성 분석)

  • 습지는 해안선 안정화, 생물의 다양성 유지, 수질정화 그리고 관광, 여가활동 그리고 습한 시기에는 물을 흡수하고 건조한 시기에는 방류하는 역할을 하며 인간에 삶에 있어 다양한 역할을 하고 있다. 이처럼 습지의 기능 및 다양성을 보전하기 위해서는 습지내 유량이 유지되어야 하지만, 최근 기후변화로 인한 온도상승 및 불규칙한 강수 패턴으로 인해 습지의 유량이 유지되지 못하고 있다. 특히 산지습지의 경우 습지의 특성상 규모가 작고 고립되어있으며, 환경변화에 민감하기 때문에 물의 순환이 변화하게 되면 다른 내륙습지에 비해 쉽게 습지의 육화 및 건조화가 진행된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 천연기념물 및 수생식물 등 다양한 생물종이 서식하는 보전가치가 높은 금정산에 위치한 산지습지를 대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 습지의 상류와 중앙 집수구역에 3개의 수위계를 설치하여 강수에 따른 수위변동 패턴을 분석하였고, 습지 하류부에는 강수계 및 온 습도계를 설치하여 습지의 실측 기상자료를 활용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 물수지 방법을 기반으로 하는 유출모형인 SWAT모형을 활용하여 습지의 유출특성을 분석하고 습지의 유량 변동을 파악하였다. 본 연구에서 분석한 결과를 토대로 향후 금정산 산지습지의 보전을 위한 유지관리 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

Constructed Wetlands in Treating Domestic and Industrial Wastewater in India: A Review (인도의 가정 및 산업 폐수 처리를 위한 인공습지: 총론)

  • Surface water pollution is a serious environmental problem in developing countries, like India, due to the unregulated discharge of untreated wastewater. To overcome this, the constructed wetlands (CWs) have been proven to be an efficient technology for wastewater treatment. In this study, different existing and experimental facilities were reviewed to be able to determine the current status of constructed wetlands in India. Based on the collected data from published literature, industrial wastewater contained the highest average chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). In terms of total nitrogen (TN), Total phosphorous (TP), the lowest concentration was found on domestic wastewater. Vertical flow constructed wetlands (VFCW) and Horizontal flow constructed wetland (HFCW) were more effective in removing TSS, BOD, TP in domestic and industrial wastewater, whereas hybrid constructed wetlands (HCW) showed the highest removal for COD. The use of constructed wetlands as advanced wastewater treatment facilities in India yielded better water quality. The treatment of wastewater using constructed wetlands also enabled further reuse of wastewater for irrigation and other agricultural purposes. Overall, this study can be beneficial in evaluating and promoting the use of constructed wetlands in India.

  • 하천으로 유입되어 수질 오염을 야기하는 오염원은 오염 배출원이 명확하여 하나의 점으로 나타낼 수 있는 점오염원(Point Source)과 오염원이 명확치 않은 비점오염원(Non-point)으로 구분된다. 생활하수, 축산폐수와 같이 오염원이 명확한 점오염원은 하천 유입 이전에 처리장을 거쳐 정화작업이 가능한 반면, 비점오염원은 오염원이 명확치 않아 처리에 어려움이 따른다. 또, 오염물의 양과 이동 경로가 예측이 불가능하고 강우시에는 특별한 처리 없이 하천으로 바로 유입된다. 비점 오염원의 종류는 토사, 영양물질, 유기물질, 농약, 바이러스 등 다양하다. 이 중에서 토양에 흡착되어 이동하는 질소와 인은 하천으로 유입되어 부영양화를 야기하는 특성이 있어 더욱 처리가 필수적이다. 이러한 비점오염원으로 인한 수질 오염을 줄이기 위해 여러 최적관리기법(Best Management Practices, BMPs)이 제시되어 있으며 오염 물질의 하천 유입을 차단하는 것에 중점을 둔다. 가장 널리 이용되는 방법으로는 비점오염원 저감시설 중 하천변에 식물체를 설치하여 토양의 유실을 막는 식생대(Vegetative Filter Strip, VFS)가 있다. 식생 밀집 지역의 설치를 통해 표면 유출을 차단하고 토양 유실 감소와 수체로의 오염물질 확산을 막을 수 있다. 이에 VFSMOD-w를 이용하여 강우시 식생대를 통한 토양 유실 감소 효율에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 대상 지역으로 비교적 수문 및 토양 자료가 풍부한 청미천 유역을 선정하였다. 그 결과, 식생대의 길이와 식생대 내 식물체의 파종간격이 가장 지배적인 영향을 미치는 것이 확인된다. 이때, 식물체의 종류는 식물체 파종으로 인해 변화되는 토양의 수정된 Manning의 조도계수로 구분한다. 모든 강우 및 식물체 조건이 동일할 때, 식생대 내 식물의 파종 간격이 좁고 식생대의 길이가 길수록 토사 저감 효율이 증가하는 결과가 도출되었다. 식물체의 높이, 식물체의 종류 및 식물의 파종간격이 입력 자료로 요구되나 이 중 식물체의 높이는 토사 저감 효율에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또, 동일한 강우 조건에서 식생대의 길이가 0.5 m에서 1.0 m로 2배 증가하였을 때 토사 저감 효율이 두 경우 모두 95% 이상의 효율을 보이는 것이 나타났다. 이는 식생대의 길이가 증가할수록 토사 저감 효율이 증가하나 일정 길이 이상이 되면 대부분의 토사가 저감되는 것을 의미한다. 결론적으로 식생의 파종 간격이 좁을수록 토사 저감 효율이 증가하더라도 식물체의 성장을 고려한 적절한 파종 간격을 선정하여야 한다. 즉, 식생대의 설치는 적절한 파종 간격 및 식생대 길이를 식생대 설치지역의 강우 특성에 따라 결정지어야 한다고 판단된다.

A Study on Efficiency of Water Purification of Korean Village Bangjuk[dike] as a Means of Ecological Watershed Management (생태적 유역관리 도구로써 마을방죽의 수질정화 효율성 고찰)

  • This study centering on 10 village - Bangjuks analyzed multifunctionality value of village Bangjuks which have been main water treatment system in Korean traditional villages. On the basis of understanding the structure and character of components such as the well, common spring, village waterway and others which making water-flow and consisting of aquatic system in Korean traditional village Bangjuk, the conclusion as the instrumental device of social and ecological role and ecological watershed management, securing the ecosystem soundness of the damaged or deteriated aquatic ecosystem due to the industrialization and urbanization is as below; 1. The traditional village Bangjuk was environmentally friendly hydraulic system which gathers waterways of village into a point including sewage water, retains and flows out to village through agricultural waterway. Through this Bangjuk, they have managed sewage and rainfall runoff flowed out village efficiently. It is not only a detention system of water but a kind of eco-friendly system that flow out water into the rivers after reusing and filtering it. 2. Around five traditional villages and five villages after modernization, this study classified the types of village Bangjuk as three types considering geographic location, size, etc; marsh type of low swamp, high water -low rice field type of natural flow stucture, low water - high rice field type requiring artificial irrigation facility. All the five traditional villages were turned out to be marsh type of low swamp. Geoji, Sanjeri, Ma-am, Yangchon of the agricultural villages were high water-low rice filed type, and Sangchoenri village was classified low water-high rice field type. 3. This study checked up the function of water purification of village Bangjuk. In Wonteo and Geji villages affected by discharge of village sewer and domestic sewage, the efficiency of ammonia nitrogen($NH_3-N$) and total phosphorus(T-P) was 56~95%, which was high. In Sangcheonri and Sanjeri villages strongly affected by stall and farmland, the efficiency of suspended solids(SS) was 70~85%, and that of total nitrogen(T-N) and total phosphorus(T-P) was 5.3~65%. 4. A water purification system can be found out in the system of village Bangjuk that filter out village sewage and rainfall runoff flowed through the settle and filter of pollution source and denitrification of plants. Through this system of village Bangjuk, it must be used as the basic facilities for the ecological watershed management. The sewage management system of village Bangjuk as a eco-filter must be used and studied as an eco-friendly facility for the ecological watershed management around the subwatershed and catchment.

Evaluation of Treatment Efficencies of Pollutants in Juksancheon Constructed Wetlands for Treating Non-point Source Pollution (비점오염원 저감을 위한 죽산천 인공습지의 오염물질 정화효율 평가)

  • To evaluate the water quality in Juksancheon constructed wetlands for treating non-point source pollution, the removal rates of nutrients in water and the total amounts of T-N and T-P uptakes by water plants were investigated. Chemical characteristics of T-N and T-P in sediment were investigated. The concentrations of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), SS (Suspended Solids), T-N and T-P in inflow were 0.07~1.47, 0.60~2.65, 0.50~4.60, 1.38~6.26 and $0.08{\sim}0.32mg\;L^{-1}$, respectively. The removal rates of BOD, COD, SS, T-N, and T-P were -10, 51, 66, -3 and 5%, respectively. The maximum amount of T-N uptake by water plants in August was $368.7mg\;plant^{-1}$ in the $2^{nd}$ treatment stage by Nymphoides peltata, $1314.6mg\;plant^{-1}$ in the $3^{rd}$ treatment stage by Iris pseudacorus, $1160.4mg\;plant^{-1}$ in the $4^{th}$ treatment stage by Nymphaea tetragona GEORGI, respectively. The maximum amount of T-P uptake by water plants in August was $121.7mg\;plant^{-1}$ by Nymphoides peltata in the $2^{nd}$ treatment stage, $268.7mg\;plant^{-1}$ by Iris pseudacorus in the $3^{rd}$ treatment stage and $212.0mg\;plant^{-1}$ by Nymphaea tetragona GEORGI in the $4^{th}$ treatment stage, respectively. Organic matter contents in sediments were not different. Contents of T-N and T-P in sediments were higher in spring. Microbial biomass C:N:P ratios in sediments in spring, summer, autumn and winter were 117~140:1~4:1, 86~126:5~6:1, 68~101:2~6:1 and 47~138:2~4:1, respectively. We could conclude that Juksancheon constructed wetlands show high removal efficiencies of COD and SS. However, improvements of management in winter season should be considered to improve the removal efficiencies of pollutants.

Physicochemical Properties and Distribution of Heavy Metals in Stream Sediments of the Daejeon Area (대전지역 주요하천 하상퇴적물의 물리화학적 특성 및 중금속 분포)

  • This work carried out to analyze the physicochemical properties and investigate the assessment of heavy metal contamination of stream sediments of the Yudeung and the Gab streams in the Daejeon area. The pH of stream sediments of the Yudeung stream shows the range of weak acid and weak alkaline. Most of stream sediments contain about 80% sand grain and have low water and cation retention capacity. Hence the stream sediments are not suitable fur various plans to grow up. The analysis of heavy metals in the stream sediments shows that the concentration of Pb, Cr and Cd increases from upstream to down stream. It is likely that the trend has a relationship with the water. Contamination of stream water. The authors recommend that clay materials be replenished in the stream sediments to increase the self-purification capacity and to make the suitable condition for growing up of various plants, and that water quality of the stream which can Influence into the contamination of stream sediments be monitored.

Characteristics of soil and eco-friendly media for improving the filterability and water quality in soil filtration (하천수질정화용 토양여과의 여과용량 증대와 수질 개선을 위한 친환경 여재 특성 비교)

  • Nowadays, the challenges of ensuring good water quality and quantity of river are becoming more important for human society, but there has been troublesome for purifying river water. In this study, we performed the fundamental study of a river water treatment system using riverside soil and eco-friendly optimal media for improving river water quality and can also treat a large amount of river water. As the results of the physical and chemical characterization of the two different soils (Kyungan and Chungrang, The Republic of Korea), which were collected from real stream sides in the Han River basin, and five kinds of media (zeolite, perlite, steel slag, woodchip and mulch), both soils were all classified as a sand, and effective size ($D_{10}$) and uniformity coefficient (U) of the soil were about 0.2 mm and 4 or so, respectively. Through the batch and column experiments with the soil and eco-friendly media, zeolite and mulch were found to be efficient for decreasing nitrogen. In addition, steel slag was especially superior to the other media for phosphorus removal. From soil reforming tests volume ratios were 2.8, 1, and 1 of Kyungan soil, zeolite, and steel slag hydraulic conductivity of mixed soil was increased $1.30{\times}10^{-2}$ from $2.85{\times}10^{-3}$ of Kyungan soil, and the removal efficiencies of nitrogen and phosphorus were also improved. These results show that reforming of the soil enhanced the purification of a large amount of water, and zeolite, mulch, and steel slag might be facilitated as proper functional media.

Wave Attenuation due to Water-Front Vegetation (수변식생에 의한 파랑감쇠 특성)

  • Recently, it has been widely recognized that water-front and coastal vegetations may have great value in supporting fisheries, protecting from wave attack, stabilizing the sea bed and maintaining good scenery. Hydrodynamic factors playa major role in the functions of water quality and ecosystems. However, the studies on numerical and analytical process of wave propagation are few and far behind compared to those on the hydrodynamic roles of water-front vegetations. In this study, in order to express wave attenuation into water-front vegetation, a numerical model based on the unsteady mild slope equation is developed. This result is compared with an analytical model for describing the wave attenuation by assumed simple long wave condition. Based on both the analytical and numerical results, the physical properties of the wave attenuation are examined under various wave, geometric and vegetation conditions. Through comparisons between the analytical and numerical results, the effects of the vegetation properties, wave properties and model parameters such as the momentum exchange coefficient have been clarified.

Estimating River Spatial Restoration Values Using the Meta-regression Benefit Transfer Method (메타회귀분석 편익이전 기법을 이용한 하천 복원 가치 추정)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 독립적으로 수행되어진 하천 복원 가치추정 선행연구들을 대상으로 메타회귀분석을 활용한 편익이전을 제시함으로써, 편익이전의 타당성 및 적용 가능성을 검토하는 데 있다. 문헌검색을 통해 '하천 가치평가', '하천 가치', '물 환경 가치추정', '하천 편익' 등에 관한 자료를 수집하였으며, 총 60편의 연구를 수집했다. 그 중 중복된 연구를 제외하고 가치추정 단위를 '원/년/가구'로 통일함으로써 51편의 연구를 분석에 사용했으며, 90개의 가치 추정치가 실증분석에 사용되었다. 본 연구는 국내에서 수행된 하천 복원 가치 추정연구를 집대성하여 DB를 구축하고 요약통계량을 중심으로 선행연구 결과를 기술하였으며, 메타회귀분석을 실시한 후, policy site의 특성과 조건에 맞게 함수를 조정하고, 조정된 함수를 사용하여 policy site의 가치를 예측하였다. 종속변수로는 총 가치(원/년/가구, 2015년 불변가격)가, 독립변수로는 하천유형, 위치, 규모, 환경 서비스특성, 그리고 방법론 특성, 지불형태, 대상지 사회경제적 특성 변수들이 포함되었다. 모형의 추정결과 조정된 값은.420으로써 종속변수 총변이의 42.0%를 모형이 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 메타회귀분석을 통해 본류에서 멀어지는 소규모하천일수록 하천의 경제적 가치를 더 크게 느끼는 것으로 나타났으며, 전체적인 영향력 크기를 고려해 본다면 하천을 복원할 때 수질정화기능, 서식지기능, 이수기능, 치수기능, 여가 및 수변공간으로의 기능 순으로 고려하는 것이 하천의 가치를 보다 높일 수 있을 것으로 보였다. 또한 지불방법은 매월, 인당 지불하는 것으로 제시할 때 경제적 가치 추정치를 높일 수 있는 것으로 해석되었다. 모델추정 결과를 활용한 함수이전에서는 만경강의 특성을 반영하고 조정함으로써 만경강의 가치를 추정하였으며, 모형으로부터 얻은 만경강 가치 예측치는 가구당 매년 41,214원으로 추정되었다. 본 연구의 메타회귀분석은 선행연구를 객관적으로 종합할 수 있는 분석의 틀로서 충분한 활용 타당성이 인정되는 것으로 보이며, 편익이전 시에 policy site의 자원특성과 조건에 맞춰 함수를 조정하여 예측치를 제시함으로써 메타회귀분석 함수이전의 융통성을 보여주었다. 이에 메타회귀분석을 통한 편익이전은 타당성 및 적용 가능성 측면에서 긍정적으로 판단된다.

Water Purification by Inorganic Ion Absorption Character of Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) (물상추의 무기이온 흡수 특성을 이용한 수질정화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the efficiency of water quality remediation and the inorganic ion removal characteristics by floating plant; water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) in a batch reactor. Water lettuce can be used to remove N and P and other inorganic nutrients, by consuming them in the form of plant nutrient. The highest nutrient absorption of water lettuce was $112.5meL^{-1}\;N$ in Sonneveld-2S, $56.6meL^{-1}\;N$ in Sonneveld-1S, $31.8meL^{-1}\;N$ in sewage and P value was also the highest in Sonneveld-2S as $15.6meL^{-1}$ and in sewage as $5.0meL^{-1}$. These results indicated that using water lettuce held some promise in the context of purification of eutrophication. Also water lettuce had a preference for absorption N. Under Sonneveld-2S treatment, nitrogen percentage was the highest in plant tissue due to the highest concentration of nitrogen and removal by water lettuce. Under sewage, percentage of total N in both plant parts was high. Both above and underground parts, P percentage was less than N. It might be due to the fact that the absorption amount of P was less than N by water lettuce. It meaned that the ability of N removal by water lettuce was higher than that of P, relatively. In summary, these results show that the use of this plant was a viable option.
