  • This study is a study on the possibility of using big data-related education programs in health and medical administration-related departments using health and medical big data. This paper intends to examine the health and medical big data from five perspectives. 1st, in addition to the aforementioned 'Health and Medical Big Data Open System', I would like to examine the characteristics and application technologies of public big data disclosed by 'Korea Welfare Panel', 'Public Big Data', 'Seoul City Big Data', 'Statistical Office Big Data', etc. 2nd, it is intended to examine the appropriateness of whether the applicable health and medical big data can be used as living data in regular subjects of health and medical administration and health information related departments of junior colleges. 3rd, we want to select the most appropriate tool for classroom lectures using existing statistical processing packages and programming languages. Fourth, finally, by using verified health and medical big data and appropriate tools, we want to test the possibility of expressing graphs, etc. in class and the steps from writing a report. 4th, I would like to describe the relative advantages of R language that can satisfy portability, installability, cost effectiveness, compatibility, and big data processing potential.

  • Adhering to coding style guidelines is crucial for both companies and developers as it improves code readability and reduces the costs associated with testing and maintenance. However, teaching coding style in programming courses poses challenges. Setting up an environment for learning coding styles is hard, and there are no predefined coding style rules for beginners. From the learners' perspective, since adherence to coding styles does not affect their grades, they do not feel a strong need to learn them. This paper introduces a coding style checking system for an online evaluation system. The proposed system is implemented to check and evaluate coding styles in C, Java, and Python. Additionally, we applied 234 out of the 1,023 rules provided by the language-specific tools, which is 23.08%, allowing for the application of coding style rules according to the course progression. Moreover, we motivated learners to improve their coding style by adding quality scores to their basic scores. After introducing the coding style education system, the number of students scoring over 25 points on their initial submissions increased by 149.47%, from 18 students in the first week to 44 students in the sixth week. Learners used the coding style checking system to learn how to apply coding style rules and subsequently implemented their code in adherence to the specified coding styles.

  • SENKs (Students who Emigrated from North Korea to South Korea) are exposed to the general problem of Su-Po-Ja(mathematics give-uppers) as well as their own difficulty in learning mathematics. In this study, we conducted the FGI (focus group interview) in order to examine the recognition on mathematics teaching and learning in South Korea with 6 SENKs and 3 teachers who teach the SENKs. As a result, it was found that SENKs' had difficulties in understanding math because of the differences in math terminology used in South and that in North Korea, the unfamiliar problem situation used in math lesson, and the shortage of time for solving math problem. And the teachers reported that they had difficulties in teaching great deal of basic math, SENKs' weak will to learn math, and SENKs' lack of understanding about problem situation because of the inexperience about culture and society in South Korea.

  • Although many mathematical teaching/learning materials are already developed in the web, diverse utilization of this materials such as calculation, searching, or reusing of expressions are limited since the expression is actually a figure. To cope with this, MathML which describing mathematical notation was developed. In the paper, we proposed the methods of developing teaching materials using MathML, making learning assistance tools which utilize MathML, and applying MathML to information exchange community for Mathematics courses in ICT environment. Using MathML to develop a teaching material makes easy to correct and reuse the mathematical notations conveniently. Furthermore, learning assistance tools made by placing MathML help teachers reorganize and utilize these materials in the classroom as well as enhancing the connection between mathematical notations and concepts. The web-board that can make a use the mathematical notations using MathML enables the teachers and students to exchange information actively. It also helps to fulfill different types of teaching using ICT such as "discussion on the web".

  • In this paper, the elementary students from the Information class of the Science Education Institute for the Gifted were divided into the experimental and control groups. The two groups took Scratch programming classes and the changes in their sociality were analyzed. The experimental group used the Scratch remix function, an educational programming language, to perform the LT cooperative learning. The control group took general instructor-led classes. The experimental group carried out a team project in which learners should cooperate with each other to produce certain results using the remix function. Twelve 3-hour lessons were taken by the experimental and control groups consisting of 30 and 30 students respectively to verify changes depending on remix-based cooperative learning. According to t-test using the survey results, the experimental group that performed cooperative learning using the Scratch remix function showed more improved sociality than the control group did. There was a statistically significant difference as well.

  • Many students have dualistic beliefs about mathematics and its learning- for example, there is always just one right answer in mathematics and their role in the classroom is receiving and absorbing knowledge from teacher and textbook. This article investigated some epistemic implications and limitations of common mathematics teaching practices, which often present mathematical facts(or procedures) and treat students' errors in a certain and absolute way. Langer and Piper's (1987) experiment and Oliveira et al.'s (2012) study suggested that presenting knowledge in conditional language which allows uncertainty can foster students' productive epistemological beliefs. Changing the focus and patterns of classroom communication about students' errors could help students to overcome their dualistic beliefs. This discussion will contribute to analyze the implicit epistemic messages conveyed by mathematics instructions and to investigate teaching strategies for stimulating students' epistemic development in mathematics.

  • In this study, current status of technology and realities of usage on wireless Internet for educational applications were examined, and based on related studies and case analysis, 'Matrix OX Quiz' that can be applied at present time was designed and built. Main characteristics of this system are as below: Firstly, an attempt was made to achieve educational effect by offering educational contents that are suitable for wireless Internet era, breaking away form limitations on time and space with previous wired Internet. Secondly, mobile phone was selected as the wireless Internet terminal considering the current wireless Internet usage environment and technology, and improved convenience by supporting WAP form Markup language used by SK telecommunications with the most enrollment at present. Thirdly, self-directed learning capability of students can be improved through lessons utilizing wireless Internet. Especially, responsibilities for teaming can be increased through lessons utilizing wireless Internet, and abilities needed for solving immediate problems can be developed. Therefore, the educational contents built in this study should have sufficient educational effects if wireless Internet becomes widely spread and most students can easily use it in near future.

  • This study investigated the effect of small group discussion for science concept learning in cooperative learning environments that encourage verbal interaction with peers upon students' understanding of the concepts at the particulate level, application abilities, perceptions of students' negotiation, and communication apprehension. Two classes of 7th grade at a coed middle school were assigned to the control and the treatment groups. They were taught about change of states and motion of molecules for 7 class periods. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of a conceptions test for the treatment group were significantly higher than those for the control group, and that the low-achievers in the treatment group performed better than those in the control group. However, the scores of two groups did not differ significantly in an application test. The perceptions of students' negotiation for the treatment group were more positive, but the scores of the communication apprehension for two groups were not significantly different.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a contents when we are going to introduce cryptography and information security for vocational high school students. For this we do a survey of the students' level for understanding of information security and the 7th curriculum for school mathematics, 2007 revised curriculum for school mathematics, the curriculum for vocational high school, and we search for the material that connects between mathematics subjects and vocational subjects. We develop a text book that introduces information security and cryptography. After we teach vocational high school students by using this developed book, we get the result that learning cryptography with computer programming makes a good motivation of learning mathematics and roles a parameter between mathematics curriculum and vocational curriculum. As a result we propose that the developed contents can be used in 'Practical Mathematics' in the 7th curriculum for school mathematics or 'Application of Mathematics' in 2007 revised curriculum for school mathematics.
