Impact of Protein and Lipid Contents on the Physical Property of Dried Biji Powder (건조비지분말의 물리적 특성에 대한 단백질과 지질 함량의 영향)

  • The effects of chemical compositions (protein, lipid, and dietary fiber) on the physical properties of dried biji powders were investigated. The raw biji was freeze-dried (control) and hot-air dried (untreated). The untreated biji was further defatted and deproteinated. The prepared biji powders were analyzed for the proximate composition, total dietary fiber (TDF), water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), swelling power, solubility (including the quantification of soluble carbohydrate and protein fractions), and final viscosity (using a rapid visco analyzer). Control and untreated biji powders exhibited the similar chemical compositions. The defatted biji possessed higher TDF, although its protein content did not significantly differ for control and untreated ones. The deproteinated biji consisted mainly of TDF. WAI and swelling power increased in the order: deproteinated > defatted > control > untreated biji powders. WSI and solubility increased in the order: control > untreated > defatted > deproteinated biji powders. The similar patterns were observed for soluble carbohydrate and protein fractions. The deproteinated biji revealed the highest viscosity over applied temperatures, while the untreated one was lowest. Overall results suggested that the physical properties of the dried biji powder were reduced by protein and fat, but enhanced by dietary fiber.

Therapeutic Effect of Nocturnal Water Restriction in Children with Primary Nocturnal Enuresis (일차성 야뇨증 아동에서 야간 수분 제한의 치료 효과)

  • Purpose : Treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) includs folk remedies and various treatments based on pathogenesis. We assessed the therapeutic effect of nocturnal water restrict ion as the primary treatment of PNE. Materials and methods : From October 1998 to June 1999, 41 children with PNE (>3 wet nights per week) who visited Ewha Womans University Mokdong hospital and who had good compliances to nocturnal water restriction for 2 months were included. Before and during nocturnal water restriction, daily fluid intake and urine volume were recorded for 2 days every 2 weeks. Responses to nocturnal water restriction were classified according to the decrease of wet nights as complete (>90$\%$), partial (50-90$\%$) and no (<50$\%$) response. Predictors such as age, sex, daytime voiding dysfunction, fluid intake, urine volume, maximum urine volume per void and fasting urine osmolality were evaluated. Results . The response rate to nocturnal water restriction fir 2 month was 82.9$\%$(34/41) [complete response 39.0$\%$(16/41), partial response : 43.9$\%$(18/41)]. The response rate to nocturnal water restriction was significantly higher in monosymptomatic PNE than polysymptomatic PNE and more effective in PNE with or nocturnal fluid intake, nocturnal urine volume, and maximum urine volume than lower nocturnal fluid intake, nocturnal urine volume and maximum urine volume per void (P<0.05). Nocturnal urine volume, maximum urine volume per void and luting urine osmolality after nocturnal water restriction has significantly increased higher in complete response and partial response group than in no response group (P<0.05). Conclusion : The nocturnal water restriction was effective in monosymptomatic PNE with nocturnal polydypsia, nocturnal polyuria and high bladder capacity. Effect of Hot Water Treatment Times on Moisture Absorption and Germination of Albizzia julibrissin Seeds (열탕처리시간이 자귀나무 종자의 수분흡수 및 발아에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to examine optimal hot water treatment time in Albizzia julibrissin seeds. Germination and moisture absorption characteristics among intact seeds, immersed seeds for 24 hours in distilled water and hot water treated seeds were surveyed. As result, treated seeds showed a highly significant difference with intact and immersed seeds (p<0.0l). Especially, treated seed for 2.0 minutes represented the highest percent of germination (PG). But mean germination time (MGT) did not have significant difference between non-treatment and treatments (p=0.502). Germination speed and germination performance index showed similar tendency with PG. In percent of moisture absorption (PMA) and moisture absorption rate constant (MARC) treatments had higher values than non-treatment whereas 2.0 minutes treatment was lower than non-treatment in initial moisture absorption rate (IMAR). In relation between germination properties and moisture absorption characteristics, all properties except MGT among germination properties had high correlations with PMA and MARC ($r=0.854{\sim}0.931$,p<0.01) whereas IMAR didn't have correlation.

Effect on fruit growth and quality as artificial pollination time of Dragon fruit(Hylocereus undatus) in heating plastic house cultivation (열대과수 용과 가온하우스 재배의 인공수분 시간이 과실비대에 미치는 영향)

  • 용과(Hylocereus undatus)는 멕시코 및 과태말라가 원산지이며 아열대 및 열대지역에서 재배되고 있으며 아시아는 베트남 타이완 중국 일본 등 국가에서 재배하고 있다. 가지에 열매가 있는 모습이 용이 여의주를 물고 있는 형과 닮았다하여 붙여진 이름이다. 지구온난화로 인한 기온상승으로 전남지역 재배에 적합한 대체 열대 및 아열대과수 개발이 필요하다. 용과는 열대과수 중 비교적 낮은 온도($10^{\circ}C$이상) 조건에서 재배 가능하여 남부지역에서 시설내 가온재배하고 있다. 국내 시설재배 중 문제점은 용과는 밤에 꽃을 피기 때문에 밤에 활동하는 매개곤충이 없어서 인공수분으로 수분문제를 해결해야한다. 인공수분의 한계시간과 수분할 경우 과실비대에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 인공수분 시간을 개화 1시간 이내, 4~5시, 11~12시 및 무 처리(방임)로 처리하였다. 개화시기는 1차 7월 13일, 2차 8월 8일, 3차 8월 26일로 3회에 걸쳐 개화가 이루어졌으며 이시기의 화분량는 4~5시가 0.68g, 11~12시 0.47g로 1시간 이내 0.16g보다 많았고 과실비대에서 1과중은 개화11~12시가 421g, 4~5시 400g, 1시간 이내가 377g으로 처리 간에 차이는 없었지만 무처리는 185g으로 처리구와 192~236g의 유의차가 있었다. 용과의 인공수분한계시간은 다음날 아침 7시(개화 11~12시)까지 인공수분 할 경우 정상적인 착과가 이루어졌으며 과실비대를 위해서 인공수분은 필수적으로 실시해야 한다.

Effects of Soil Types and Tillage Systems on Soil Water Movement in the Root Zone of Cornfields (옥수수포장의 토양 수분함량에 대한 토성과 경운의 영향)

  • Volumetric soil water contents through a soil profile were monitored to identify the effects of tillage systems and soil physico-chemical characteristic on soil water movement from the soil profile. Water content profiles under no tillage (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) practices were compared at two commercial farms in central Illinois from 1992 through 1994, using neutron-scattering techniques in weekly intervals during each growing season. The volumetric water content of surface soil layers was affected more by tillage systems and rainfall amounts, whereas that of the subsoil layers was more strongly affected by soil types. Soil water percolated faster through Saybrook and Catlin soils than through Drummer, Flanagan, and Ipava soils because Saybrook and Catlin soils have lower clay content and water-retention capacity and higher permeability than Drummer, Flanagan, and Ipava soils. Increased soil organic matter (SOM) in Drummer, Flanagan, and Ipava soils would be attributable to the higher soil water retention than other soil types. Soil water contents in the corn root zone were consistently higher under CT plots than under NT plots.

Soil Moisture Reduction Pattern and that Influences for Plants in the Condition of No Rainfall and No Irrigation (무강우 무관수시 옥상녹화 식물의 토양수분감소 패턴과 그 영향)

  • This study was carried out to suggest an experimental base to maintain the sustainability of extensive green roof as considering moisture demand by the type of the green roof plant before construction. The changes of soil moisture content, chlorophyll content, coverage of Sedum kamtschaticum and Dianthus chinensis var. senperflorens in two type of perlite soil and mix soil, were investigated under the condition of no rainfall and no irrigation during one month. The result shows that with the increase of stress time, soil moisture content and chlorophyll content on leaf were in a downward trend; After 30 days, Soil moisture content were lowest in 10 cm depth perlite soil system planted Dianthus chinensis. and 20 cm depth mix soil system planted Sedum kamtschaticum had the highest soil moisture. Generally soil moisture contents of soil system planted Dianthus chinensis var. senperflorens were lower than that of soil system planted Sedum kamtschaticum. In 10 cm depth soil system, state of plant growth was better than 20 cm depth soil system both perlite soil and mix soil type. It can be confirmed.

  • This study was performed to examine the high temperature adaptability with CO2 treatment for tomato under the condition of greenhouse cultivation during summer season. The indoor condition of CO2 concentrations were controlled as control, 500 ppm, and 1,000 ppm for the greenhouse with the maximum air temperature of 44℃. With the observation of VPD (vapor pressure deficit) and CWSI (crop water stress index) by leaf-air temperature difference according to CO2 treatment concentration, the plants with the CO2 concentration of 1,000 ppm performed less water stress than those with the CO2 concentrations of control and 500 ppm. The plants without CO2 treatment performed the severest degree of water stress.

Characteristics of Kakdugi Radish Cube by Autumn Cultivars during Salting (가을무 품종별 깍두기 무 절임 특성)

  • Characteristics (salt concentration, weight loss, soluble solid content, moisture content, pH, textural properties) of kakdugi radish cube (kakdugi radish, $2{\times}2{\times}2\;cm$) were evaluated during salting. Five different radish cultivars harvested in autumn were immersed into 10, 15 or 20% brine solution (radish : brine solution = 1 : 2) at $15^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs. The time required to reach the optimum salt concentration (3.0%) was different among cultivars; in the 10% brine solution, 5hr for 'Taeback', 4hr for 'Bakja', 3hr for 'Kwandong' and 'Bakbong', 2hr for 'Bagkwang'. Generally, it was observed that it took shorter salting time at higher concentration of brine solution. While the highest value of weight loss of kakdugi radish cubes was observed with 'Bagkwang', the lowest, 'Taeback'. There was a decrease of pH of kakdugi radish during salting; while 'Bakja' showes little change in pH, 'Bagkwang' shows large decrease of pH. Hardness and fracturability decreased during salting; the highest value of hardness was observed with 'Taeback', the lowest, 'Bagkwang' has the highest moisture content, the lowest soluble solid content and hardness. There was a similarity of characteristics of kakdugi radish cube between two cultivars, 'Taeback' and 'Bakja', as well as 'Bagkwang', and those of 'Kwandong' and 'Bakbong' were between two types of cultivars.

Synthesis and Application of Solvent-free Waterborne Polyurethane (SWPU) Using Teramethylxylene diisocyanate (TMXDI) (Teramethylxylene diisocyanate (TMXDI)를 사용한 무용제형 수분산 폴리우레탄의 합성 및 응용)

  • In this study, solvent-free waterborne polyurethanes (SWPU) were synthesized with teramethylxylene diisocyanate (TMXDI), poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) and polycarprolactone (PCL) and different mole ratio of dimethylol proponicacid (DMPA). The effect of ionic contents in the solvent-free waterborn polyurethane on thermal, mechanical properties and adhesion strength were studied. Glass transition temperature (Tg) were in range of $-70{\sim}-50^{\circ}C$ and increased as PCL contents increased in polyol. With more incorporation of PCL and DMPA contents in SWPU, tensile strength, adhesion strength and heat resistance of SWPU increased, while the elongation decreased.
