A Case of Mucocele in the Left Frontal Sinus (전두동 점액낭종)

  • Authors was experienced a case of mucocele in the left frontal sinus. A 24-years-old Korean male soldier was admitted to C.A.F.G.H. on 16th May 1980, with chief complaints of dull headache, exophthalmos, visual disturbance and intermittent epistaxis on the left side. On physical examination, left turbinates and septum were revealed hyperemic middle turbinate with blood tinged spots and deviated slightly to right side, and felt round, smooth, rubbery painless swelling within the orbit at the left inner canthus. The left orbital contents was displaced laterally producing proptosis with diplopia. On the radiological examination, Caldwell and Water's view showed hazy density in medial side of left orbital and left frontal sinus. Tomography of orbit showed hazy increased mass density with rather sharply defined outer margin of left bony orbit probably due to compressive erosion. The case was treated with surgical removal of the Lynch frontal approach, so present this case with a brief review of the literature.

  • Many of the historic plant specimens collected on the Korean Peninsula in the early twentieth century were lost during the Korean War, though some of them were deposited in the herbarium of Tokyo University (TI) and thus remained unharmed. Data on historic Korean plant specimens at TI are very important given the lack of current data on North Korean plants. Moreover a number of unidentified Korean historic specimens are present at TI. We carried out an identification process and created a list of plants in a newly found collection held by Dr. Ikuma Yoichiro, a Japanese entomologist. He traveled from Cheongjin to Hyesanjin via Baekdu-san (Mt.) in August of 1913 and collected 240 species. We also secured one duplicate set.

A Robust Power Transmission Lines Detection Method Based on Probabilistic Estimation of Vanishing Point (확률적인 소실점 추정 기법에 기반한 강인한 송전선 검출 방법)

  • We present a robust power transmission lines detection method based on vanishing point estimation. Vanishing point estimation can be helpful to detect power transmission lines because parallel lines converge on the vanishing point in a projected 2D image. However, it is not easy to estimate the vanishing point correctly in an image with complex background. Thus, we first propose a vanishing point estimation method on power transmission lines by using a probabilistic voting procedure based on intersection points of line segments. In images obtained by our system, power transmission lines are located in a fan-shaped area centered on this estimated vanishing point, and therefore we select the line segments that converge to the estimated vanishing point as candidate line segments for power transmission lines only in this fan-shaped area. Finally, we detect the power transmission lines from these candidate line segments. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to noise and efficient to detect power transmission lines.

  • Recently, there have been much efforts in the image segmentation using morphological approach. Among them, the watershed algorithm is one of powerful tools which can take advantages of both of the conventional edge-based segmentation and region-based segmentation. The concept of watershed is based on topographic analogy. But, its high sensitivity to noise yields a very large number of resulting segmented regions which leads to oversegmentation. So we suggest the restricted waterfall algorithm which reduce the oversegmentation by eliminate not only local minima but also local maxima. As a result, the restricted waterfall algorithm has a good segmented image than the other methods, and has a better binary image than the histogram thresholding method.

  • 본 논문은 국제물류 거점항만인 광양항을 사례로 하여 항만친수공간의 개발정책을 다루고 있다. 연구의 목적은 항만친수공간의 기본이론과 개발실태의 실질적 분석을 토대로 광양항에 항만친수공간을 개발하기 위한 종합적인 정책방향을 계획 ${\cdot}$ 제도적인 시각에서 제시하는 것이다. 본 논문의 주요내용은 항만친수공간의 개념과 유형/외국 항만친수공간의 개발사례/항만친수공간 개발의 문제점/광양항의 항만친수공간화 정책방향 및 결론 등으로 구성되고 있다. 광양항 친수공간의 실제 대상지는 컨테이너항 지구와 묘도지구이다. 컨테이너 항만의 부지에는 이용자 및 시민에게 쾌적한 공간을 제공하는 녹지공간의 조성과 함께 친수성 항만공간의 확보가 중요하다. 묘도지구는 해안매립과정에서 소실된 자연생태계를 복원하여 자연친화적인 지속가능한 자연의 이용방안을 마련하며, 이의 일환으로 해양생태공원을 조성한다. 이와 더불어 광양항 친수공간의 개발전략들에는 항만시설의 개방과 홍보활동의 강화, 선항만 개발과 항만재개발시 친수공간확보 의무화, 항만친수공간 확충목적의 관련제도 정비, 항만친수공간 기본계획의 수립, 항만친수공간 지구의 지정, 항만친수공간 관련제도의 정비, 항만친수 행적기관조직의 정비 등으로 제시할 수 있다.

A Case of Keratitis, Ichthyosis and Deafness(KID) Syndrome (Keratitis, Ichthyosis, and Deafness(KID) 증후군 1례)

  • KID syndrome was named after the initials of the major three symptoms of the disease; keratitis, ichthyosis, and deafness. The syndrome was first introduced by Dr. Burns in 1915 who described one of his patients with those symptoms. In 1981, Dr. Skinner and his colleagues reported 17 patients who had keratitis, ichthyosis, and deafness. They also called the disease KID syndrome for the first time. After that, there have been only 60 cases of KID syndrome reported. KID syndrome may be presented with neurosensory deafness, vascularizing keratitis and such skin disorders as ichthyosis, ichthyosiform skin eruptions, and alopecia. Also, those with KID syndrome may suffer from repetitive infections, dental affections, hypohidrosis, growth delay and hepatic and renal abnormalities. The authors report the first case of KID syndrome in Korea with some references. The patient presented with keratitis, neurosensory deafness, and such characteristic skin disorders as ichthyosis and hyperkeratosis.

  • Use of endovascular stent-graft in aortic aneurysm disease is now accepted as an alternative treatment to surgery. We successfully treated two patients with high risk of thoracic aortic aneurysm with percutaneous endovascular stent-graft. Three and ten months follow up chest CT showed obliteration of aneurysm and there was no complication after stent grafting.

  • 산불로 인한 피해는 비단 산림뿐만 아니라 산림인접지 가옥, 사찰과 같은 건축물에서도 발생된다. 특히, 사찰은 국보뿐만 아니라 다양한 문화재를 보유하고 있어 산불로 인해 소실될 경우 문화 자산의 피해가 불가피하다. 이에 국보보유사찰, 문화재 다량보유사찰, 조계종 교구 본사, 세계문화재 등재 사찰 등을 포함한 우리나라 주요사찰 42개소에 대해 미국 Firewise 및 캐나다의 Firesmart에서 제시한 산림인접지 시설물의 위험성 평가 방법을 기반으로 체크리스트 기법을 이용하여 '사찰 산불 위험성 평가'를 실시하였다. 체크리스트 주요 항목은 크게 입지 여건, 임상 및 산림과 사찰의 이격거리, 산불발생 개연성, 사찰 주변 가연물 화재위험성, 적정소방시설 여부, 기타 화재방지를 위한 시설물 평가 등 총 6개 항목으로 구분하여 26개 세부항목을 작성, 평가하였다. 정성적 위험성 평가 결과, 산불로 인한 화재 위험성이 높은 사찰과 산불피해 저감 대책을 제시하였고 향후, 정량적 위험성 평가를 통한 위험관리 모델 제시에 관한 연구를 수행하고자 한다.

  • Starches from three varieties of naked barley were fractionated into two populations according to the granule sizes and physicochemical properties were compared. Number of small granules was comprised in 62% of Saessalbori and 75% of Nulssalbori and Mudungssalbori. The proximate composition and water binding capacity were lower in large granules, the large granules showed higher values in blue value and intrinsic viscosity than those of small ones. There no differences in swelling power and X-ray diffraction pattern between small and large granules. The viscosities of alkali-gelatinized starch were higher on large granules, but the temperature of birefringennce loss was not different.

  • Purification of the bacteriocin from Lactococcus sp. 1112-1 was achieved by successive column chromatography on CM-Sephadex C-25 and Sephadex G-50, starting from cell disruption broth. 16.2% of the initial activity was recovered after this purification step and it was shown 123-fold increase in purification. Purified bacteriocin was shown a single band on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This substance was rather stable at heat treatment and alkaline pH relatively. The residual antimicrobial activity was 38% when the bacteriocin was treated by heat at $100^{\circ}C$ for 60 min. And 23% of the activity remained at pH 8.0 after standing for 48 hr. The amino acid composition of purified bacteriocin was made up 26 residues.
