The electrochemical properties of pitch-coated natural graphite(NG) were investigated as an anode for lithium-ion batteries. The anode materials were prepared by heat-treatment of mixture of NG and petroleum pitch at $1000^{\circ}C$. The pitches with various softening points were used as carbon precursor. The physical properties of anode materials were analyzed by TGA, SEM, PSA and BET. As the softening point increased, the thickness of the coating layer increased and the specific surface area decreased. The electrochemical performances were investigated by initial charge/discharge efficiency, cycle stability, cyclic voltammetry, rate performance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The carbon-coated NG using pitch with softening points of $250^{\circ}C$ showed an initial discharge capacity of 361 mAh/g and a coulombic efficiency of 92.6%. Also, the rate performance(5 C/0.2 C) was 1.6 times higher than that of NG, and it had a capacity retention (90%) after 50 cycles at 0.5 C.
The acid properties of $V_2O_5-TiO_2/SiO_2$ catalysts and the partial oxidation of o-xylene into phthalic anhydride had been investigated in order to relate the acid property of catalyst to the catalytic activity. $V_2O_5$ had both weak (V=O) and strong (V-O-V) acid sites which gave pyridine desorption peaks at $230^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the amount of weak acid sites at $230^{\circ}C$ decreased with the increase of calcination temperature. On the other hand, the amount of weak acid sites increased considerably by increasing the amount of $TiO_2$ to the $V_2O_5-TiO_2/SiO_5$, and the maximum value was shown at 20 and higher mole % of $TiO_2$ with respect to $SiO_2$. In the oxidation of o-xylene, $V_2O_5-TiO_2/SiO_2$ enhandced more the total conversion and the selectivity to phthalic anhydride than $V_2O_5/SiO_2$, and the higher $TiO_2$ ratio to $V_2O_5$ increased the total conversion but could not change the selectivity to phthalic anhydride. Weak acid sites (V=O) led o-xylene to partial oxidation producing phthalic anhydride by adsorbing o-xylene weakly, while acid sites (V-O-V) led it to total oxidation producing CO and $CO_2$ by adsorbing it strongly.
This study describes the basic concept and the applicability of Hybrid Reinforcement System using conventional steel reinforcing bars and Fiber Reinforced Polymer bars. The concrete bridge decks are assumed to be supported by beams and reinforced with two layers of reinforcing bars. In concrete bridge deck using HRS, the top tensile force for negative moment zone on beam supports is assumed to be resisted by FRP reinforcing bars, and the bottom tensile force for positive moment zone in the middle of hem supports is assumed to be resisted by conventional steel reinforcing bars, respectively. The FRP reinforcing bars are non-corrosive. Thus, the steel reinforcement is as far away as possible from the top surface of the deck and protected from intrusion of corrosive agent. HRS concrete bridge deck has sufficient ductility at ultimate state as the following reasons; 1) FRP bars have lower elastic modulus and higher ultimate strain than steel re-bars have, 2) FRP bars have lower ultimate strain if provided higher reinforcement ratio, 3) ultimate strain of FRP bars can be reduced if FRP bars are unbonded. Test results showed that FRP and HRS concrete slabs are not failed by FRP bar rupture, but failed by concrete compression in the range of ordinary reinforcement ratio. Therefore, in continuous concrete bridge deck using HRS, steel reinforcing bars for positive moment yield and form plastic hinge first and compressive concrete fail in the bottom of supports or in the top of the middle of supports last. Thus, bridge deck consumes significant inelastic strain energy before its failure.
The effects of alum$(Al{\cdot}K(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_{2}O)$ on the rheological properties of $3{\sim}9%(w/v)$ gelatinized solutions of nonwaxy and waxy rice starches were investigated to evaluate the possibility of utilizing a starch modifying agent. Gelatinized non-waxy and waxy rice starch solutions showed a pseudoplastic flow behavior with yield stress. Pseudoplasticity of two rice starch solutions increased by the addition of alum$(0.05{\sim}1.0%,\;w/w)$. Alum increased the yield stresses and consistency indexes of two rice starches and these values decreased with increasing starch concentration. Also, alum(0.5%, w/w) increased the flow activation energy of gelatinized waxy rice starch solution and activation energy decreased with increasing waxy rice starch concentration in the range of $3{\sim}7%(w/v)$, but for the nonwaxy rice starch, activation energy decreased at starch concentration of 7%(w/v). From the above results, it was found that alum had the possibility of utilizing a modifying agent for the rheological property of gelatinized starch solution.

In this study, effects of grain size distribution on the shear strength and rheological properties are investigated for coarse- and fine-grained soils by using direct shear apparatus. Shear strengths are estimated for fine-grained soils with the maximum particle size of 0.075 mm and coarse-grained soils with the maximum particle size of 0.425 mm and fine contents of 17% prepared at dry and liquid limit states. The direct shear tests are conducted under the relatively slow shear velocity, which corresponds to the reactivated landslide or debris flow after collapse according to the landslide classification. In addition, for the evaluation of rheological properties, residual shear strengths for both fine- and coarsegrained soils prepared under liquid limit states are obtained by multiple reversal shear tests under three shear velocities. From the relationship between residual shear strengths and shear rates, Bingham plastic viscosity and yield stress are estimated. The direct shear tests show that cohesions of fine-grained soil are greater than those of coarse-grained soil at both dry and liquid limit states. However, internal friction angles of fine-grained soil are smaller than those of coarse-grained soil. In case of rheological parameters, the plastic viscosity and yield stress of fine-grained soils are greater than those of coarse-grained soils. This study may be effectively used for the prediction of the reactivated landslide or debris flow after collapse.
A geoscientific research was performed on 12 samples of comb-pattern potteries which were excavated at Daecheonri neolithic site, Korea. The texture and compositions of 12 potteries and surrounding metrix of soil and rocks were compared with the help of petrographic microscope, XRD and REE data. As to the manufacturing techniques thick potteries are caused by the amount and number of coarse grains which are assumed to be added shards when their distributional pattern are considered. DC1, DC3, DC 7 and DC11 samples have clearly oriented textures, and the orientation of vesicles in DC3 and DC11 samples arranged in the same direction with those on the pottery surface. This indicates the use potter's wheel technique in manufacturing potteries. Burning temperature is assumed over $800^{/circ}C$, particularly under reduction environment. As to the source, raw materials of pottery matrix are derived from the bottom of excavation site, or in an extracted outcrop of the northwestern foothill from site, while the shard materials are very similar with those extracted from sandy loams near sites. Finally any use pattern of pottery may control the pottery thickness, shard addition, and matrix selection.

The transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy by inductive coupling. Then, heat is occurred at coils, inner transformer was filled with insulating oils for cooling and insulation. Although mineral oil as insulating oil has been widely used, it does not meet health and current environmental laws because it is not biodegradable. Therefore, in this study, the diglycerol ester was synthesized with diglycerol and fatty acids (oleic acid and caprylic acid) over various catalysts for insulating oil having biodegradability, high flash points and low pour points. The sulfated zirconia ($SO_4{^{2-}}/ZrO_2$) catalyst prepared at different calcination temperature shows the highest conversion of fatty acids at $600^{\circ}C$ due to crystallinity and high density of acid sites per surface area. When the molar ratio of oleic acid and caprylic acid is 1:3, the diglycerol ester shows superior insulation properties that are the flash point of $306^{\circ}C$ and pour point of $-50^{\circ}C$. The insulation properties of synthesized diglycerol ester shows the pour point of $-50^{\circ}C$ and the flash point of over $300^{\circ}C$. Therefore, diglycerol ester is superior to the vegetable oils in insulation properties.

Single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) has been used as a material for reinforcing various advanced materials because it has superior mechanical properties. However, pure SWCNT that does not have any functional group has a hydrophobic character, and exists as bundles due to the strong Van der Waals attraction between each SWCNT. Due to these reasons, it is very difficult to disperse SWCNTs in the water. In this work, in order to use SWCNT for production of cementitious composites, SWCNT was first dispersed in water to make an aqueous solution. Sodium deoxycholate (DOC) and Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were chosen as surfactants, and the dosage of DOC and SDS were 2wt% and 1wt%, respectively. Sonication and ultracentrifugation were applied to separate each SWCNT and impurities. Using such processed SWCNT solutions, cement paste was prepared and its shear stress vs. strain rate relationship was studied. The yield stress and plastic viscosity of cement paste were obtained using Bingham model. According to the results in this work, cement pastes made with DOC and SDS showed similar rheological behavior to that of air entrained cement paste. While cement paste made with DOC 2 wt.% SWCNT solution showed similar rheological behavior to that of plain cement paste, cement paste made with SDS 1 wt.% SWCNT solution showed different rheological behavior showing much less yield stress than plain cement paste.
This paper is performed to examine the effect of creep during the primary consolidation and the applicability of the Yin's EVP (Elasto-Visco-Plastic) model. In ordinary consolidation theories using the elastic model, the primary consolidation process can be expressed but the secondary consolidation process cannot. It is due to the viscosity, which can express the secondary consolidation, and is sometimes related to the scale effect (difference of the thickness of clay layer between laboratory sample and field condition) such as hypotheses Type A and Type B shown by Ladd et al. (1977). Usually, the existence of the creep during the primary consolidation has been conformed and the Type B is well acceped. On the other hand, from the large-scaled consolidation tests the intermediate characteristic between Type A and Type B was proposed as Type C by Aboshi (1973). In this study, to clarify the effect of creep on the settlement-time relation during the primary consolidation in detail, Type B consolidation tests were performed using the separate-type consolidation test apparatus for a peat and clay. Then the test results were analyzed by using Yin's EVP Model (Yin and Graham, 1994). In conclusion, followings were obtained. At the end of primary consolidation, the compression for the subspecimens should not be the same because of the difference of the excess pore water pressure dissipation rate. And the average settlement measured by the separate-type consolidometer coincides with the analyzed one using the Yin's EVP model. As for the dissipation of the excess pore water pressure, however, the measured excess pore water pressure dissipates faster compared with the Yin's model.

This study is to compare the differences of bonding strength based on the Degassing temperatures and various opaque materials for Ni-Cr alloy specimen which does not contain beryllium(Be). Numerous comparison tests have been performed to measure the bonding strength by experimenting 3-point flexural rigidity tests in order to find out ways of stabilization and enhancement of bonding strength between metal and porcelain. AVOVA, surface component observation experiment by SAM/EDS, and Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results are as follows: First, The bonding strength in all groups has exceeded the minimum (25MPa) of ISO9693 bonding strength regulation for dental mental-porcelain specimen. Second, The bonding strength of Group V1 was $32.37{\pm}1.91MPa$, $38.25{\pm}1.38MPa$ in Group V2, $46.43{\pm}2.14MPa$ in Group V3 and $47.21{\pm}1.72MPa$ Group V4. The difference has been statistically meaningful. Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results have shown that the bonding strength in Group V4 was higher than that of Group V1. Third, the bonding strength between metal and porcelain without degassing process was higher than that of with degassing process, and the bonding strength of powder opaque was higher than that of paste opaque. Fourth, Group V4 has ranked the highest on the comparison table of metal and porcelain bonding strength.
