Rapid sintering of PZT piezoelectric ceramics by using microwave hybrid energy (마이크로파 에너지를 이용한 PZT 압전세라믹스의 급속소결)

  • Abstract The sintering behavior and the electrical properties of sintered PZT ceramics using 2.45 GHz microwave energy were investigated. The ceramics were sintered between $1050 ~ 1130^{\circ}C$ for 5 min. Sintered body with high density and good electrical properties were achieved as the sintering temperature increases. Above $1090^{\circ}C$, however, the bulk density was decreased due to the volatilization of PbO component, and also electrical properties were decreased. The relative dielectric constant, mechanical Quality factor, electro- mechanical coupling factor of microwave sintered body at $1090^{\circ}C$ without PbO atmosphere were 1900, 80, 0.53 respectively, which were comparable to conventional sintering values. The sintering process completed within 20 min using microwave hybrid energy. The processing time and the amount of energy con-sumption could be reduced by microwave hybrid energy assisted rapid sintering.

Sintering and Mechanical Properties of Silicon Nitride Prepared with a Low-cost Silicon Nitride Powder (저가의 $\beta$-상 분말을 사용한 질화규소의 소결 및 기계적 특성)

  • A refractory grade low-cost silicon nitride powder was chemically analyzed, purified, and gas pressure sintered with the sintering additives. As-received powder contained a significant amount of free-Si, 0.72 wt% of Fe, 0.5 wt% of al and 0.31 wt% of Ca. Oxygen and carbon contents of the powder were 3.3 wt% and 0.4 wt%, respectively, and it consisted of 96% of $\beta$-phase and 4% of $\alpha$-phase. After lowering the Fe content and nitriding treatment, the powder was sintered with 6 wt% yttria and 2 wt% alumina for 1 h between 1823 K and 2123 K in order to examine the sintering behavior. Fully dense samples were obtained by sintering at 2123k for 2h. For comparison, a commercially available high-grade powder was also sintered at the same time. The low-cost powder showed much slower densification rate than the high-grade powder. Fully dense sample prepared from the low-cost powder contained a number of coarse grains with a low aspect ratio, and its hardness, fracture toughness, flexural strength and thermal shock resistance were not as good as those of the sample prepared with the high-grade powder.

A Study on the Fabrication of 2700 Series Al-alloy Sintered for Automobile Application (자동차 부품용 2700계열 Al소결체 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In order to use as weight-reduced sintered parts for automobiles, mechanical properties of sintered compacts of 2712 Al-alloys containing 0, 10, 20, and 33% ceramics, respectively, were investigated in this study. (1)Regardless of ceramic contents, all sintered compacts possessed 4~7% pores. (2)After aging the compacts sintered for 12 minutes, tensile strength of the 2712 Al-alloys containing 0, 10, 20, and 33% ceramics was 165, 260, 256, and 166 N/$mm^2$, respectively, whereas those aged after sintering for 30 minutes exhibited the tensile strength of 186, 229, 219, and 202 N/$mm^2$, respectively. In addition, the 2712 sintered compact containing 10% ceramics showed the maximum elongation of about 3.6%, (3)After aging the 10% ceramic-containing sintered compacts reached a maximum apparent hardness ($H_RF$) of 97. (4)The minimum wear volume ($174{\times}10^{-3}mm^3$) was shown in the 10% ceramic-containing 2712 sintered compact after aging. From these results, the 2712 sintered compact containing 10% ceramics thought to be the most suitable one for the fabrication of aluminum engine part.

  • The effect of kind of starting materials used for a sintering additive. magnesium acetate and magnesium nitrate, on the mechanical properties of alumina sintered body made by adding 1000 ppm of the additives, respectively, was investigated. As for the alumina sintered bodies prepared from magnesium acetate and magnesium nitrate, we observed that their relative densities decreased rapidly with increasing sintering temperature 1$600^{\circ}C$. Outer layer of alumina bodies had a duplex microstructure consisting of pores and grain growth. Also the inner layer had a second phase between alumina grain boundaries. By EPMA analysis, we confirmed that the grain boundary phase was a compound containing Mg.

Microstructure and Wear Resistance Properties of Cu-W Sintered Materials Fabricated by Hot Pressing (Hot pressing으로 제조된 Cu-W계 소결재의 미세조직 및 내마모특성)

  • Cu-W composites containing 20wt.% W were fabricated by hot pressing. Hot pressing was carried out at temperatures ranging from 800 to $1000^{\circ}C$ under pressures of 15MPa for 30MPa for 30min and 60min. This process gave composites of higher density, higher hardness and higher wear resistance than the conventional sintering processes. However, the microstructure of Cu-W composites under pressure of 15MPa revealed there was an inhomogeneous distribution of W, segregation of W on some area. These undesirable results are attributed to the immiscibility of W in Cu and the pressure effect on sintering.

$UO_2$-5mol%$CeO_2$ 분말에서의 분말처리 및 소결분위기가 소결거동에 미치는 영향

  • Attritor mill로 분쇄처리된 $UO_2$-30mo1%CeO2$_2$(masterblend) 분말을 turbular mixer와 attritor mill 에서 $UO_2$와 혼합, $UO_2$-5mol%CeO$_2$ 분말을 만들고, 이를 통해 분말처리 및 소결분위기가 각 성형체의 소결거동에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. $UO_2$-30mo1%CeO$_2$ 분말을 attritor mill로 1 시간동안 분쇄하면 평균 분말크기는 3.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 이었다. Turbular mixer에서 만들어진 $UO_2$-5mol%CeO$_2$ 분말이 H$_2$ 및 Ar-4%H$_2$ 분위기에서 소결되면, 분말처리 방법에 따라서 소결밀도는 각각 10.07-10.11, 9.81-9.85 g/㎤이었다. 이러한 방법으로는 masterblend 분쇄처리 과정에 만들어진 agglomerate 는 소결이 거의 이루어지지 않아서 소결체내에 그대로 잔존되었다. Agglomerate는 그 내부에 균열이 생성되어 있었고, 또한 $UO_2$ 지지내의 확산도 방해하여 기지내부에도 큰 기공들이 많이 분포하였다. 희석혼합을 turbular mixer 대신 attritor mill에서 하게되면, 밀도는 H$_2$ 및 Ar-4%H$_2$ 분위기에서 각각 10.54, 10.39 g/㎤ 이었으며, 결정립크기는 5, 9.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 이었다. 이 경우에는 소결체내에 agglomerate가 거의 잔존하지 않았다.

  • After the addition of yttrium aluminum garnet of 2, 5, 10 mol% as a sintering aid, $\alpha$-silicon carbides were prepared by a liquid-phase sintering at $1850^{\circ}C$, and the microstructural evolution was investigated during sintering as functions of liquid-phase amount and sintering time. The highest apparent density in each compositions was obtained in specimens sintered for 2 h, and the percentage of weight loss increased with sintering time. By increasing the amount of sintering aid (yttrium aluminum garnet), the rate of grain growth during sintering decreased, but the apparent density of sintered body increased. The phase transformation from 6H-SiC to 4H-SiC was partially observed in specimens sintered for a long time, and so, a few rod-like grains were observed.

Fabrication and Characterization of PSZ/NiCrAlY Composites by Plasma Activated Sintering (통전활성 소결법에 의한 PSZ/NiCrAlY계 복합체의 제조 및 특성평가)

  • 통전활성 소결법을 이용하여 단상의 세라믹스(PSZ) 및 금속(NiCrAlY)과 PSZ/NiCrAlY 복합체를 각 소결온도에서 제조하였으며, 이에 대한 특성평가는 개량형 소형펀치 시험법을 이용하여 수행하였다. 복합체의 밀도 및 경도에 미치는 소결온도의 영향은 NiCrAlY의 부피분율 증가에 따라 감소되었으며, 중간조성에서의 밀도 및 경도는 연속적인 변화를 나타내었다. 파괴인성의 변화에서는 60vol%-NiCrAlY 이상의 조성에서 급격한 증가를 나타내었으며, 짧은 소결시간 및 빠른 승온속도 등 통전활성 소결법의 장점에 의해 단상의 PSZ에서도 10 MPa.m$^{1}$2/ 의 높은 파괴인성 값을 얻을 수 있었다. PSZ/NiCrAlY 복합체에서의 특성은 소결온도와 NiCrAlY의 부피분율에 의해 지배적으로 영향을 받았으며, 단상의 PSZ은 전형적인 취성거동을 나타내었고 80vol%-NiCrAlY 까지의 복합체에서는 부분적인 취성 및 소성거동을 함께 나타내었다. 각 소결체에서 최고의 특성을 나타내고 소결온도는 단상의 PSZ 경우인 140$0^{\circ}C$에서부터 단상의 NiCrAlY 경우인 120$0^{\circ}C$까지 최대 20$0^{\circ}C$의 차이를 나타내었으며, PSZ과 NiCrAlY의 조성비에 따라서 연속적인 변화를 보였다.

  • The effect of sintering atmosphere on the final properties and phase change of Ti (C, N) Cr3c2 ceramics was investigated. In the case of sintering in vacuum and N2 atmosphere, densely packed sintered body was obtained. In Ar atmosphere, however, densification was much decreased compared to sintering in vacuum and Na. XRD analysis showed that in vacuum atmosphere Cr3c2 phase was changed to Cr7c3 Phase whereas in N2 and Ar atmosphere phase change was not occurred. That is, for vacuum sintering, the formation of defects in Ti(C, N) structure occurred through de-nitridation process, and it promotes the diffusion of C in Cr3c2 and raises the densification effects. But in the case of N2 atmosphere, densification phenomenon was considered to be due to sintering mechanism that enabled formation of free carbon and removal of oxygen by free carbon and existence of carbon in the grain boundary.

A Study on the Reaction -Bonding and Gas Pressure Sintering of Si Compact made by Pressureless Powder Packing Method (무가압 분말 충전 성형법에 의해 제조된 Si 성형체의 반응 소결과 가스압 소결에 관한 연구)

  • Using Si powder with average particle size of 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Si compacts were formed by pressureless powder packing method. The compacts were reaction bonded at 1350, 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 3~35 hrs under N2/H2 atmosphere and its microstructures were examined. Reaction bonded silicon nitrides showed nitridation of 90% and relative density of 88% After the impregnation of 5wt% MgO as sintering additive using aqueous solution of Mg nitrate the Si compacts were reaction bonded at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 15hrs. The reaction bonded bodies were gas pressure sintered at 180$0^{\circ}C$ 190$0^{\circ}C$ 200$0^{\circ}C$ for 150, 300min. They showed relative density of 95% bending strength of 600MPa and fracture toughness of 6 MPa.m1/2.
