  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural causal relationship between adult learners' participation in lifelong learning, education program satisfaction, and social capital. Also, the study reviews how education program satisfaction variables mediate the relationship between adult learners' participatory motivation and social capital. Subjects included 425 adult learners who participated in lifelong education, and the research hypothesis was verified through structure equation modeling analysis. Results are as follows: First, adult learners' participatory motivation had a positive (+) effect on social capital and education program satisfaction. Secondly, education program satisfaction had a positive (+) effect on social capital. Thirdly, education program satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between adult learners' participatory motivation and social capital and showed a significant indirect effect. This study suggests that it is necessary to develop various programs that can satisfy learners as well as improve social capital, participation motivation, and satisfaction of programs provided by lifelong educational institutions. Based on these results, this study suggests not only the role of lifelong education institutes, but also ways to improve social capital of adult learners within the lifelong education field.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a group coaching program to promote metacognitive learning ability in an academic context for adult learners enrolled at a distance university. The topics and objectives of the group coaching program focused on understanding and applying the elements of 'metacognitive knowledge', and each session was conducted online by integrating 'planing-monitoring-regulating', an element of 'metacognitive regulation', into the REGROW model of coaching. To verify the effectiveness of the program, research participants were recruited from adult university students enrolled in A Cyber University and assigned to the experimental and control groups. The experimental group was given the program, while the control group was given the program after the completion of the study. Metacognitive learning ability level and academic self-efficacy were tested before and after the program for both groups, and a satisfaction survey was conducted for the experimental group. Analyses of the data revealed that the experimental group showed higher scores on both the overall and sub-scales of perceived metacognitive learning ability and academic self-efficacy compared to the control group. Participants in the experimental group also reported high satisfaction with the program, increased knowledge of metacognition, awareness and application of metacognitive strategies, and found the group coaching approach beneficial. Based on these findings, implications, and suggestions for future research are presented.

A single subject design with multiple baselines across participants was applied, and three adults with severe ASD in their late 20s living at a group home participated in this study. Participants received a total of 25 group sessions. During the intervention, participants engaged in structured instrument playing in which initiation and response to socially interactive behaviors were musically cued, and target behaviors were reinforced in the musical environment. At pre- and posttest, the frequency of initiation of and responding to social interaction behaviors were recorded and analyzed. The results of this study showed that the frequency of both initiation of, and response to, social interaction increased for all participants during the intervention phase, compared to the baseline phase. This result demonstrates that interactive instrument playing increased social behaviors of adults with ASD. It also shows that musically delivered social information can facilitate adults with ASD understanding the intention of social partners in social contexts and motivate this population to engage in social interaction.

  • The purpose of this study was to empirically analyze the motivation of university lifelong education and the factors that are important in selecting it. In the motivation for participation of adult learners, learning new knowledge and skills in the first place and learning new things in the second place were good, so that they could learn together in the third place. Active school investment in faculty and staff will be needed to increase program diversity and quality through professionalism. Adult learners are getting information from the system they are interacting with, and furthermore, they learn the information from the public relations of university professors. Since they are acquiring paths and information through acquaintances, it is necessary to continuously promote the curriculum to unspecified adult learners. Advertisement should take advantage of various convergence strategies such as hanging banners in the area, publicity of the subway, local newspapers, word of mouth, SNS, and the Internet.
