In this study, novel waste wool/polypropylene NFRPs (natural fiber reinforced polymer composites), which are constituted with waste wool discarded as industrial scrap during manufacturing processes of woven fabrics and general purpose thermoplastic polypropylene (PP), were fabricated by means of compressionmolding and their mechanical and thermal properties were characterized. The mechanical properties of PP resin were significantly improved by an introduction of waste wool to PP. In particular, as the loading of waste wool was 50 vol% in the NFRP, the flexural strength of the NFRP was increased about 20%, the flexural modulus about 143%, the tensile strength about 76%, and the tensile modulus about 90% in comparison with each of PP control. In addition, the maximum value of the heat deflection temperature (HDT) obtained with the NFRP was $138^{\circ}C$ at a 50 vol% loading of waste wool. This is $21^{\circ}C$ higher than the HDT of PP control. The result here suggests that waste wool be a potential candidate for a reinforcing material of thermoplastic matrix resins.

Fiber-reinforced composites transmitting microwaves of certain frequencies or bands were proposed. These frequency selective fabric composites(FSFCs) are fabricated by weaving carbon fibers and dielectric fibers that build periodic patterns. Design parameters affecting the electromagnetic characteristics of FSFCs were widely discussed, Then the electromagnetic characteristics of a fabricated plain-weave FSEC were investigated with regard to the electrical conductivities of carbon roving, the fiber undulation, and the aperture-to-cell ratio, for the electrical conductivities, its dependence on frequency as well as on the fiber volume fraction of carbon roving was taken into account. Constituent material properties and the fiber undulation had little effect on the EM properties of the fabricated FSFC, while the aperture-to-cell ratio made a profound effect on them.
In the present study, kenaf fibers were treated with sodium hydroxide using soaking and ultrasonic methods prior to biocomposite processing, respectively. The effect of alkali treatment on the kenaf-PLA interfacial adhesion and mechanical and thermal characteristics of kenaf/poly(lactic acid) biocomposites was investigated in terms of their interfacial shear strength, flexural properties, dynamic mechanical properties and thermal stability and also microscopic observations of kenaf fibers and the composite fracture surfaces. As a result, use of both soaking and ultrasonic methods for treating kenaf fiber surfaces played a role in increasing the fiber-matrix adhesion and the mechanical properties of the biocomposites. Their characteristics depended not only on the fiber surface treatment method but also on the treatment condition like alkali concentration and treatment time.
In this paper, geometrically non-linear finite element analyses were performed to study the mechanical behavior of the material system of the envelope of stratospheric airships. The microstructure of the load-bearing plain weave layer was identified and modeled. The Updated Lagrangian formulation was employed to consider the geometric non-linearity as well as the induced structural non-linearity for the fiber tows. The stress-strain behavior was predicted and the effective elastic modulus was calculated by numerical experiments. It was found the non-linear stress-strain curves were largely different from those by linear analysis. And non-linear elastic moduli were much higher than linear elastic moduli. The difference was more distinguishable when the tow waviness ratio was smaller.

The purpose of this study is to improve the problems in Umbrella Arch Method, such as the oxidation, the difficulties in installation and cutting of the steel pipe. The applicability of the high strength FRP (Fiber-Reinforced-Plastic) materials composed of glass fiber as a substitute of steel pipe was investigated in this study. The results of this study show that FRP material is better than steel pipe in work performance and the durability of material except for its price. From the numerical analysis with various types of FRP, it was evaluated that the equiangular curve type is more efficient than the flat type developed abroad, and the supporting effect of FRP-grout mixture is similar to that of steel-grout mixture in results of bending strength test.
In order to improve the mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester (UPE) resins, the UPE resins with different glycol molar ratios were prepared. The effects of molar ratios of the UPE resins on the curing behaviors and mechanical properties were investigated. The microgel reaction mechanism was employed to characterize the system. It was found that the final conversion increased with increasing NPG molar ratios, and the conversion at the peak of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermogram appeared to decrease with increasing NPG molar ratios. The flexural strength, tensile modulus, water resistance, and infiltration increased with increasing NPG content, but the tensile strength, tensile elongation, and flexural modulus decreased. Among the UPE resins prepared from the glycols with the molar ratios (PG/NPG) of 0.5/0.5, 0.25/0.75, those of laminated composites plates showed better mechanical properties.

Purpose: We reviewed the outcome of treatment of ossifying fibroma involving long bones. Materials and methods: Eight patients who enrolled at our hospital for ossifying fibroma from 1994 to 1999 were selected for this study. Mean age was 7.9 years old. Five were male and three female. Seven involved tibia and one fibula. All cases were diagnosed by biopsy. The initial treatment was conservative and the followings were operative indications; (1) repeated fracture, (2) suddenly growing mass, (3) severe bowing deformity, (4) pseudoarthrosis. We assessed the recurrence by x-ray follow-up. Results: As initial treatment, curettage was performed in 2 patients, observation in 2 subperiosteal resection in one and extraperiosteal resection in 3 patients. Two patients who were observed and 3 patients who received extraperiosteal resection did not suffer recurrence. Two patients who received curettage and one patient who received subperiosteal resection had recurrence. The second treatment was performed in 3 patients. The one case of curettage received extraperiosteal resection. The other was in observation. The case of subperiosteal resection was in observation, too. There were no recurrence and aggravation at follow-up. Conclusion: Ossiying fibroma should to be treated by conservative method. If operation is indicated, extraperiosteal resection could reduce the recurrence.

The structures of sucker of two Cobiidae; Common freshwater goby and Triden goby were observed by light and electron microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the characteristic narrow ridges and grooves on the apical portion of sucker of Common freshwater goby, and hexagonal structures similar to a honeycomb representing the intercellular junctional area on the middle and basal portions. Some ridges were present on the epithelial surface on the middle and basal portions. The openings of several mucus-secreting cells were present between main epithelial cells. Light and transmission electron microscopy revealed the core of the fin; soft rays with a surrounding dense collagen fiber layer. Some loosely arranged fibers (collagen fiber) radiated toward the surface epithelium. The surface epithelium was cuboidal or columnar in shape. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the coiled irregular ridges and grooves, which was less developed and had sparser distribution than in Common freshwater goby, on the apical portion of sucker of Triden goby. The middle and basal portions had honeycomb structures as in Common freshwater goby. Fewer mucoussecreting cells were present. Light and transmission electron microscopy showed the core of soft rays, dense collagen fiber layer, however, the radiating fibers observed in the Common freshwater goby was rarely present. The sucker was thinner because the epithelium is squamous or polygonal in shape and rare presence of the radiating fibers.
In this research, we attempt to fabricate an excellent CFRC(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Carbon), which has good thermal and mechanical properties, with 8H/satin woven fabric prepreg, high modulus and high strength type continuous carbon fiber and raw coal tar pitch(RCTP) matrix or THF soluble fraction(THFSP) matrix which has good graphitizability. Green bodies were fabricated with hot press molding technique and CFRC samples were made after carbonization, impregnation, recarbonization and graphitization steps. For the purpose of characterization of the physical properties, SEM, polarized light microscope, TGA were observed, and tested flexural strength, modulus and ILSS. After heat treating the THFSP matrix up to $2300^{\circ}C$, the value of $C_0$/2 was 3.380$\AA$, which is analogous to the structure of natural graphite and the value of 2$\theta$ is $26.276^{\circ}$ approached to the Bragg's angle of natural graphite. As a result of TGA to test the high temperature air oxidation, the THFSP matrix, graphitized up to $2300^{\circ}C$, exhibited the best air oxidation resistance. And mechanical properties were increased up to 65~70% as fiber volume fraction increased. Because of the good orientation graphitizability, the fracture surface of THFSP matrix CFRC is very good.
In this research, we aimed to investigate the most optimum pulse wave sensor to ear label of live stocks among pulse wave piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor, photo sensor. As a result of this research with application to 10 cattle, 10 pigs objects with pulse wave piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor, photo sensor, photo sensor shows less standard deviation to average value than piezo film sensor or conductive textile sensor which means it is the most stable for the cattle. With pigs, piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor and photo sensor all show stable pulse rate. Thus, to take pulse rate of livestock with curved body and long and dense coat such as cow, photo sensor will be considered as the most efficient mean.
