  • The preflashover light emission of the $SiO_2$-dielectric system behavior under high electric field is discussed. Time dependence of the voltage drop, electrical current, and light emission, are analyzed for high-purity $SiO_2$-vacuum systems under impulse voltage stress. We will summarize the experimental results showing the main feature of the time-dependent system response up to breakdown.

  • After flashover occurs on the overhead distribution line by lighting strokes(direct or induced), the power frequency arc current continues. If lightning flashover occurs on the overhead lines using covered conductors, the power frequency art current with fixed path overheats the conductor, and arc fusion fault can be occurred. There are two categories protecting or reducing methods of arc fusion faults caused by lightning stokes. - Reducing lightning flashover rate : G/W, LA, etc. - Protection by AFPD(Arc Fusion Protection Device) : power follow current interruption. This paper presents lightning surge phenomena on overhead distribution lines and protecting performance of arc fusion Protection devices to the lightning strokes nearby overhead line.

  • 송전전압의 대용량화에 따라 옥외용 절연재료 특히, 애자는 porcelain에서 소형화가 가능한 고분자 소재로 전환되고 있다. 이러한 고분자 소재는 소형화, 경량화뿐만 아니라 저가, 가공의 용이성, 우수한 절연성능을 가지지만, 옥외용 절연재료인 애자로서 갖춰야 할 내후성, 내산화성 등은 porcelain insulator에 비해 낙후된 상태이다. 하지만 애자 중 실리콘 고무는 비교적 내광성, 내열성, 산화안정성, 내후성 등이 우수한 특성을 나타내나 EPDM(ethylene propylene diene monomer)에 비해 가격이 비싸며 낮은 인열강도를 나타내는 등의 단점을 가지고 있다. 그리고 애자는 염분이나 열 등에 의해서 표면방전과 섬락을 일으켜 절연파괴를 일으키지만, 그것이 계속 반복열화함에 따라서는 기계적 강도가 급격히 저하함으로 적절한 평가가 요구된다.(중략)

  • The dry and wet flashover characteristics on the contaminated distribution facilities was investigated. The test were carried out on the suspension insulator, line post insulator, lightning arrester, cut off switch, etc. In the dry state, the flashover voltages of facilities contaminated with B, C, D classes are similar to the non-contaminated ones. However, in the wet state, the flashover voltages of facilities contaminated with B, C, D classes are decreased. The flashover voltages of some few facilities show under the standard value. This results indicate that the high humidity may cause the flashover on distribution facilities.

  • It is expected that the impurities contained in a solid state insulation material will affect a considerable influence on its break-down voltage, dielectric loss, and insulation resistance. In this thesis, as a preliminary experimental research for the investigation described above, the effect of metalic barrier between the electrodes on the creepin flash over discharge voltage along the surface of a solid insulation material has been investigated, and got some interesting results. It was found that generaly the flash over voltage rises when a metalic barrier is located between the electrodes. The results of this investigation will be taken into account as an important components on the insulation design to prevent the creeping flash over discharge in insulators, bushings, and so on.

공간연면 직렬간극의 섬락방전특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the flash over characteristics in space and surface series air gaps)

  • The characteristic of flashover electric discharge has been brought to light in this paper for the situation in which the space and creeping gaps are laid out in series. The result of this study has disclosed the facts that the over all flashover characteristics have three kind of features such as unilateral increase after increase, and increase after decrease in compliance with varied layout method and relative magnitude of gap length, and accordingly there exist a ratio among the magnitudes of gap length and a proper layort method through which the over all flashover voltage reaches the highest. Also involved with this study is the theoretic analysis of flashover characteristics even in the case of creeping electric discharge from hand tip of the gauge, where the over all value of flashover voltage can be estimated from the peculiar value of flashover voltage and flicker voltage for the space and creeping gap within the extent of 5% error.

누설 전류 모니터링에 의한 오손된 고분자 애자에서의 섬락 예지 방법 (A Flashover Prediction Method by the Leakage Current Monitoring in the Contaminated Polymer Insulator)

  • In this Paper, a flashover prediction method using the leakage current in the contaminated EPDM distribution polymer insulator is proposed. The leakage currents on the insulator were measured simultaneously with the different salt fog application such as 25g, 50g, and 75g per liter of deionized water. Then, the measured leakage currents were enveloped and transformed as the CDFS using the Hilbert transform and the level crossing rate, respectively. The obtained CDFS having different gradients(angles) were used as a important factor for the flashover prediction of the contaminated polymer insulator. Thus, the average angle change with an identical salt fog concentration was within a range of 20 degrees, and the average angle change among the different salt fog concentrations was 5 degrees. However, it is hard to be distinguished each other because the gradient differences among the CDFS were very small. So, the new weighting value was defined and used to solve this problem. Through simulation, it Is verified that the proposed method has the capability of the flashover prediction.

  • Many long railway tunnels without emergency evacuation system or ventilation system are under construction or in-use in Korea. In the case of tunnel-fire, many fatalities are occur in current condition. Current safety level is estimated in this study, for the efficient investment on safety. But so many uncertainties in major input parameters make the safety estimation difficult. In this study, probabilistic techniques are applied for the consideration of uncertainties in major input parameters. As results of this study, accident scenarios and survival ratio under tunnel fire accident are determined for various conditions.

  • This study was investigated for searching a cause of flashover failure of polymer insulator and preparing countermeasures. Hydrophobicity, microstructure and chemical structural change of polymer weathershed were studied by polymer characterization methods. In addition, the electrical properties such as power frequency dry flashover voltage/impulse voltage tests, contamination characteristics were carried out. The hydrophobicity of polymer weathershed was decreased significantly and cracks were observed on the surface. Also, the electrical characteristics did not satisfy the KEPCO specification. The failed polymer insulators showed the more leakage current than 4 years service-aged ones. From the result, it can be concluded that the flashover failure of polymer insulator was attributed to the surface aging and severe contamination.

  • Polymeric composite insulators are used for outdoor insulation. However, our knowledge about their long-term performance in an outdoor environment is still very limited. The electrical stress caused the surface of these insulators to become degradation. In order to evaluate the tracking resistance of polymer insulators, we performed the tracking wheel test which is recommended by CEA LWIWG-01. And the flashover voltage tests were conducted for understanding electrical characteristics after tacking wheel test. Also, these insulators are studied by characterization methods such as contact angle measurement, SEM, etc.
