Recently, a lot of studies that applying the big data technology to various fields, are progressing actively. In the maritime domain, the big data is the meaningful information which makes and gathers by the navigation and communication equipment from the many ships on the ocean. Also, importance of the maritime safety is emphasized, because maritime accidents are rising with increasing of maritime traffic. To support prevention of maritime accidents, in this paper, we developed a vessel traffic display and statistic system based on AIS messages from the many vessels of maritime. Also, to verify the developed system, we conducted tests for vessel track display function and vessel traffic statistic function based on two test scenarios. Therefore, we verified the effectiveness of the developed system for vessel tracks display, abnormal navigation patterns, checking failure of AIS equipments and maritime traffic statistic analyses.

The current maritime data communications mainly depend on radio and satellite which have restrictions on data rate and cost. That leads to needs of novel relatively-high-speed data communication systems at sea just like on land. This paper proposes a routing protocol (MWR) for newly designed model of ship-to-ship communication networks at sea. The MWR protocol finds out an optimal route by selecting an optimal network for each specific application from overlapped networks of available wireless media at sea.

Korea is surrounded on three sides by the sea, through the maritime transportation accounts for close to 90% share in the total cargo volume. In addition, there are amount of small and medium-sized fishing vessels registered. These days, a number of maritime accidents caused many casualties and having an adverse effect on the marine environment. Therefore, there is a need for a maritime traffic control has been increasing. Information about the ship is divided into AIS information for VTS, Port Management Information System (Port-MIS) operated by the Port and vessels pass (VPASS) that are installed on fishing. However, there is a problem that is not achieved the information exchanged between each other. That is, information on the vessel are stored in diverse inefficient in the management, operation and utilization. This paper discusses the ways to efficiently manage and integrate vessels information for VTS, and proposes the method for implementation and application.

It may be reasonable to consider density per unit area over time rather than analyze traffic volume, which is simply the traffic volume per unit of time, in assessing the maritime traffic congestion of a certain area. This study contributes to the standardization of maritime traffic congestion assessment methods for the maritime traffic safety diagnosis institute while seeking a new method to minimize evaluation error due to converted traffic volume per ship tonnage level. To solve this problem, a method to evaluate maritime traffic congestion by comparing the area occupied by a vessel with the area of its route using vessel identification data from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been proposed. In this new model, it is possible to use actual data due to the development of information and communication technology, reducing conversion error while allowing for the evaluation of maritime traffic congestion by route.

This paper presents a human friendly system using fuzzy inference as a Part of study to embody intelligent ship. We also build intelligent ship's steering system to take advantage of speech recognition that is a part of the human friendly interface. It can bring an effect such as labor decrement in ship. In order to design the voice instruction based ship's steering gear control system, we build of the voice instruction based learning(VIBL) system based on speech recognition and intelligent learning method at first. Next, we design an quartermaster's operation model by fuzzy inference and construct PC based remote control system. Finally, we applied the unposed control system to the miniature ship and verified its effectiveness.

Objectives of shipboard integration networks are to exchange and manage integrated information. Shipboard integration networks use UDP(User Datagram Protocol) multicast for the exchange of information. However, such information can be missed or damaged because UDP can't guarantee reliability. The standard of shipboard integration networks defines error log functions for the missed or damaged information. In this paper, we analyze internal and external log functions. The internal log function records errors internally, and the external log function sends error messages to a log server and records them in a database. We also develop a log processing module and log server for the external log function.

Korea's shipbuilding industry is in a critical condition due to changes in the domestic and international environment. To overcome this crisis, preemptive development of products and technologies through prediction of new demand for ships is necessary. The goal of this research is to develop an artificial intelligence algorithm based on ship big data in order to predict new demand for ships. We intend to develop a big data analytics platform specialized in predicting ship demand and to utilize the forecast results of new ship demand through data analysis for planning/development of new products. By doing so, the development of sustainable new business models for equipment and equipment manufacturers will create new growth engines for shipyard and shipbuilders. Furthermore, it is expected that shipbuilders will be able to create business cases based on measurable performance, plan market-oriented products and services, and continuously achieve innovation that has high market destructive power.

Recently, one of the major issues of shipbuilding and marine is the reduction of air and marine pollution emission to ships. In response, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has concluded an international convention (MARPOL) to prevent pollution from ships. A Annex Six of The Convention restricts and regulates air and marine pollution of ship from exhausting gases. To this end, it is required to apply EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Indicators) to the construction of new ships, and to minimize the emission of environmental pollutants by recommending the application of EEOI (Energy Efficiency Operation Indicators) to operational ships. Therefore, in this study, we propose to calculate the grade of operating efficiency (EG) of ships based on actual operational data for transport ships and to provide energy-efficient optimal path search information through analysis of marine environment data.

The recent increase of fresh farm products, hazardous cargos, and high-priced goods in marine transportation has caused an increased demand of cargo owners and shipping companies with regard to the monitoring of the location and state of cargo. To meet this increase, numerous technologies are being studied for the monitoring of the cargo state. Cargo containers on a ship are loaded on a ship's deck and in a ship's hold, which is located under the deck. However, Since the developed technologies mostly transfer the container status information that collected by mobile communication, it costs a lot to install communication infrastructure on ship. And the ship's hold is completely sealed with a cover, and communication with the reader positioned at the ship's bridge is difficult. Therefore, most existing studies on container monitoring on ships have focused on the monitoring of containers loaded on a ship's deck. Accordingly, this study suggested system configuration for the monitoring of containers in a ship's hold using IP-RFID technology. The suggested system configuration was tested on an actual ship under navigation, and the test results are given in this study. The test results verified that the monitoring of containers in a ship's hold using IP-RFID technology is effective.
