Optimum Life-cycle Cost Design of Orthotropic Steel Deck Bridges (강상판교의 생애주기비용 최적설계)

  • This study present an optimum deck and girder system design for minimizing the life-cycle cost (LCC) of orthotropic steel deck bridges. The problem of optimum LCC design of orthotropic steel deck bridges is formulated as that of minimization of the expected total LCC that consists of initial cost, maintenance cost, expected retrofit costs for strength, deflection, and fatigue. To demonstrate the effect of LCC optimum design of orthotropic steel deck bridges, the proposed optimum LCC design is compared with the conventional method for orthotropic steel deck bridges design. From the numerical investigations, it may be positively stated that the proposed optimum design procedure for orthotropic steel deck bridges based on the LCC will lead to more rational, economical and safer design.

  • ATES(Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage) 열펌프 시스템은 기존의 다양한 열원 적용 시스템 대비 효율이 우수한 것으로 알려져 유럽과 미국에서 건물 냉난방 시스템으로 적용되고 있다. 특히, ATES 시스템은 기존의 냉난방 시스템 대비 경제성이 우수한 것으로 알려져 있으나 국내에서는 이에 대한 연구 결과는 전무한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 ATES 열펌프 시스템의 실증 성능 결과를 분석하였으며, LNG 보일러와 에어컨을 사용하는 기존의 냉난방 시스템을 비교시스템으로 ATES 열펌프 시스템의 경제성 평가를 수행하였다. ATES 시스템의 연간 실증 성능 실험결과 ATES 시스템은 외기온도와 무관하게 연중 안정적인 성능을 나타내었다. 경제성 평가시에 생애주기법(Life Cycle Cost)을 적용하여 ATES 열펌프 시스템의 설치 및 운전에 필요한 총 소요비용을 산정하고, 이 결과를 바탕으로 투자회수기간법을 통해 ATES 시스템의 투자회수 기간을 산정하였다. 생애주기법 적용 시에 현재가치법을 사용하였으며, 현재가치법은 수명주기에 발생하는 모든 투자비용과 절감액을 일정한 시점을 기준으로 등가환산하는 방법을 의미한다. 현재가치법에 사용되는 현재가치는 초기비용과 현재가치계수의 곱으로 나타나는데, 여기에서 현재가치계수는 임의의 이자율로 일정기간 동안 정기적인 할부금액이 적립될 때의 현재금액을 구하기 위해 사용하는 계수를 의미한다. 전기와 LNG는 각각 2009년 7월의 (주)한국전력공사와 (주)한국가스공사의 고시요금을 적용하였다. 본 시스템은 실증 설비용량인 20RT를 대상 건물로 가정하였고, 초기투자비는 크게 공사비와 냉난방 설비 구입비로 구성되어 있으며, 기본적인 물가지표는 (사)한국물가정보(KPI)의 고시 데이터를 참조하였다. 각 시스템의 초기투자비는 ATES 시스템이 비교대상 기존 냉난방 시스템 대비 5.7배 높게 나타났다. 일일 8시간 사용기준으로 계절별 전력요금을 고려한 연간운전 비용은 ATES 시스템이 기존 시스템 대비 냉난방 시에 각각 77%와 16%를 나타내어 운전비용이 연간 절감되었고, 난방 운전 시 절감 비율이 냉방시보다 크게 나타났다. 두 시스템에 대한 생애주기비용을 산정하기 위하여 에어컨과 보일러의 기존시스템과 ATES 시스템의 가용연수를 모두 20년으로 설정하였고, 유지보수 비용은 초기투자비용의 2%로 설정하고, 할인율은 은행 예금이자를 기준으로 5%로 설정하였다. 전기와 LNG의 요금 상승률은 (사)한국물가정보를 바탕으로 각각 2%와 8%로 가정하였다. 이러한 조건에서 생애주기법을 이용한 경제성평가는 ATES 시스템의 경우 생애운전비용이 초기투자비용보다 작게 나타났으며, 기존 냉난방 시스템은 생애운전비용이 초기투자비용에 비하여 높게 나타났다. 본 연구 대상 ATES 열펌프 시스템의 실증 성능 데이터와 기존 문헌으로부터 얻은 냉난방 시스템의 성능 결과를 이용하여 생애주기 비용을 적용한 결과 ATES 시스템의 기존 시스템 대비 투자회수 기간은 6.62년으로 나타났다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 ATES 시스템이 국내 최초로 적용됨에 따라 스크린 등의 부품을 다소 고가의 제품으로 시스템에 적용하였으므로 ATES 시스템의 신뢰성과 안정성이 확보되면 초기 투자비 감소가 가능할 것으로 예상되며, 기존 시스템 대비 투자회수 기간은 더욱 감소될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

A Comparative Analysis of Life Cycle Cost on the Window Glass and the Insulation Film Coated Glass for Window (창호 유리의 단열필름 시공에 따른 생애주기비용 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the life cycle cost of window glass with insulation film and regular glass, to verify an economical window construction method. As an approach method, the thermal performance data of each type of glass was measured using Window 6.3 and ECO2-OD Simulation Program, applied it to the case building to calculate the air conditioning and heating maintenance costs and LCC, and compared the economic feasibility. As a result, installing an additional insulation film prevents the solar heat penetration in the summer, so it reduces the cooling cost, on the other hand, it increased heating cost in winter. From the life cycle cost perspective, the effect of cooling cost reduction does not counterbalance the increase in heating cost and the additional cost from film installation and repair; therefore, the installation of insulation film may not be a proper method.

  • This study proposes a practical and realistic method to establish an optimal lifetime maintenance strategy for deteriorating bridges by considering the life-cycle performance as well as the life-cycle cost. The proposed method offers a set of optimal tradeoff maintenance scenarios among other conflicting objectives, such as minimizing cost and maximizing performance. A genetic algorithm is used to generate a set of maintenance scenarios that is a multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem related to the and the life-cycle cost and performance as separate objective functions. A computer program, which generates optimal maintenance scenarios, was developed based on the proposed method. The subordinate relation between bridge members has been considered to decide optimal maintenance sequence. The developed program has been used to present a procedure for finding an optimal maintenance scenario for steel-girder bridges on the Korean National Road. Through this bridge maintenance scenario analysis, it is expected that the developed method and program can be effectively used to allow bridge managers an optimal maintenance strategy satisfying various constraints and requirements.

  • To optimize the selected reinforcing method for application to PSC Beam bridges, the reliability analysis was performed with consideration for the increase and decrease of the member section based on the standard design section, and the minimum life-cycle cost(LCC) was calculated from this analysis with consideration for the aleatory uncertainty. Moreover, the mean, 50%, 75%, and 90% distributions of the analysis results were re-evaluated quantitatively by considering the effect of the epistemic uncertainty. The reliability results gained from the application of the reinforcing method, as well as the optimal design method based on the minimum LCC, will provide more reasonable design criteria for the PSC Beam bridges.

  • 지진이 발생하는 환경에서 철근콘크리트구조의 신뢰성을 수명주기비용에 근거하여 체계적으로 평가하는 방법을 제시하였다. 구조물의 기능성과 경제적인 효용성을 나타내기 위하여 각각 손상확률과 평균수명 주기비용의 개념을 사용하였다. 생애주기 동안 발생할 수 있는 지진에 의하여 구조물이 입게 될 손상을 보상하기 위하여 소요되는 평균손상비용을 평균수명주기비용의 주요 항목으로 고려하여 분석하였다. 구조물의 다양한 손상상태에서 손상비용을 나타내기 위해 요구되는 비용함수는 Park-Ang 손상지수의 중앙값을 독립변수로 하는 함수로 가정하였다. 지진에 의한 구조물의 손상해석은 UCI에서 개발된 SMART-DRAIN의 시뮬레이션기법을 사용하여 그 불확실성을 고려하였다. 제시된 방법을 현행 규준에 의하여 설계된 7층 사무실 건물에 적용하여 그 가능성을 살펴보았다.

  • Recently, the demand on the practical application of life-cycle cost effectiveness for design and rehabilitation of structure is rapidly growing unprecedently in engineering practice. Accordingly, in the 21st century, it is almost obvious that life-cycle cost together with value engineering will become a new paradigm for all engineering decision problems in practice. However, in spite of impressive progress in the researches on the LCC, the most researches have only focused on the Deterministic or Probabilistic LCC analysis approach (Level-1 LCC Model) at design stage. Thus, the goal of this study is to develop a practical and realistic methodology for the Lifetime risk based Life-Cycle Cost (LCC)-effective optimum decision-making at design stage.

Vibration Control and Cost-Effectiveness Evaluation of Cable-Stayed Bridges with Semi-Active Control System (준능동 제어시스템을 이용한 사장교의 진동제어 및 비용효율성 평가)

  • This paper presents cost-effectiveness evaluation of semi-active control system for cable-stayed bridge under earthquake excitations with various magnitudes and frequency contents. Semi-active control system, which is operated by using Bi-stale control method on the basis of linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) optimal controller, is designed for the benchmark control problem proposed by Dyke et at. The cost-effectiveness of the proposed control system is defined by the ratio of life-cycle costs between a bridge structure with shock transmission units and a bridge structure with the semi-active control devices. The simulated results show that the damper cost has little influence on the cost-effectiveness of the semi-active control system while the cost-effectiveness is quite sensitive to the damage cost induced by the bridge failure. It is also found that the semi-active control system guarantees relatively high cost-effectiveness for the cable-stayed bridge subject to the ground motions in the regions of moderate seismicity with soft soil condition and strong seismicity with stiff soil condition.

  • This paper presents an integrated optimum design and a cost effectiveness evaluation method of a viscoelastically damped structural system. The criterion selected for the optimization is the minimization of the life?cycle cost which is a function of structural sizing variables and the amount of the viscoelastic damper. A genetic algorithm is used as a numerical searching technique in order to simultaneously find the optimum parameters of the integrated system. Optimal distributions of design variables according to various seismic characteristics are investigated by applying the proposed design method to a numerical example of a 10?story building structure. The cost effectiveness of viscoelastically damped structural system is also evaluated by comparing the life-cycle cost of the structure without viscoelastic dampers. The results show that the viscoelastic damper is effective in a region of low to moderate seismicity.

Scenario-based Design and Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Energy Supply System for Transportation Sector (도로운송부문용 에너지 공급 시스템 설계 및 경제성평가)

  • This study aims to design energy supply systems from various energy sources for transportation sectors and comparatively analyze the life cycle cost of different scenario-based systems. For components of the proposed energy supply system, we consider a typical oil refinery, byproduct hydrogen system, renewable energy source (RES)-based electric generation system and existing electricity grid. We also include three types of vehicles in transportation sector such as internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV), electric vehicle (EV), fuel cell vehicle (FCV). We then develop various energy supply scenarios which consist of such components and evaluate the economic performance of different systems from the viewpoint of life cycle cost. Finally we illustrate the applicability of the proposed framework by conducting the design problem of energy supply systems of Jeju, Korea. As the results of life cycle cost analysis, EV fueled by electricity from grid is the most economically feasible. In addition, we identify key parameters to contribute the total life cycle cost such as fuel cost, vehicle cost, infra cost and maintenance cost using sensitivity analysis.
