  • This paper proposes a neural network model for extracting optical illusions produced by a sequence of discontinuous dot stimuli. The proposed model is based on visual cell's characters founded by visual information processing path. This study approaches on the basis of physiological observation of the perceptual phenomena that some simple ways of discrete dots are perceived as a continuous virtual contour rather than as separate dots. This paper presents the implementation of the optical illusions from discrete dot stimuli that are composed of virtual polygons from 6 to 10 dots. This experimental data are similar to those of Smith & Vos's physiological experiments. The proposed model shows that it can extract continuous illusion contours from discrete dot stimuli successfully.

  • This study is trying to propose an academic system of science of reading through analysing this area in United States as well as Japan and the it's curriculums of departments and majors of the undergraduate and graduate schools in Korea. In the case of United States, it is divided into sociology, physiology, psychology and pedagogy of reading. Japan's research area of Science of Reading is divided into sociology, physiology, psychology and pedagogy of reading under the influence of the United States. However, Murofushi Takeshi(室伏武) divides this area into 5 categories of curriculum such as basic research field, reading material field, reading education method field, reading education management field, and adjacent fields to science of reading. According to the result of comparing the it's courses in Korea, it's areas are divided into sociology, psychology, pedagogy of reading, science of reading materials and adjacent fields to science of reading. Based on the above contents, a new academic system of science of reading can be divided into basics of science of reading, readers field, reading material field, reading professionals' education field, and adjacent fields to science of reading.

  • This study used intersubject representational similarity analysis (IS-RSA) to identify participant-response consistency patterns in previously published data. Additionally, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized to detect any variations in the conditions of each experiment. In each experiment, a combination of ASMR stimulation, visual and auditory stimuli, and time-series emotional video stimulation was employed, and emotional ratings and physiological measurements were collected in accordance with the respective experimental conditions. Every pair of participants' measurements for each stimulus in each experiment was correlated using Pearson correlation coefficient as part of the IS-RSA. The results of study revealed a consistent response pattern among participants exposed to ASMR, visual, and auditory stimuli, in contrast to those exposed to time-series emotional video stimulation. Notably, the ASMR experiment demonstrated a high level of response consistency among participants in positive conditions. Furthermore, both auditory and visual experiments exhibited remarkable consistency in participants' responses, especially when subjected to high arousal levels and visual stimulation. The findings of this study confirm that IS-RSA serves as a valuable tool for summarizing and presenting multidimensional data information. Within the scope of this study, IS-RSA emerged as a reliable method for analyzing multidimensional data, effectively capturing and presenting comprehensive information pertaining to the participants.

  • This study developed a program that integrated MBSR-K and progressive muscular relaxation for the health and well-being of patients with chronic pain, and proved its effectiveness by studying 40 chronic pain patients. This program used nature of mind, body scanning meditation, breath meditation, mindfulness meditation, Hatha yoga and progressive muscular relaxation to ease chronic pain. Whenever negative feelings and emotions such as fear, anxiety, and pain occurred, the program focused on those emotions and observed the outcome. This program, which was based on the results of the preceding studies, was composed of eight courses. Major findings of the study are as follows: First, the meditation group that was composed of patients with chronic pain had significant decrease of physical symptoms compared to the control group. Second, to confirm the outstanding features of the participating patients with chronic pain that brought change in the effect of the program, characteristics of clients were analysed. Third, the program factor that influenced the effectiveness of the treatment process was evident when the training was performed twice a week rather than having once a week of training and second week for homework.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Adlerian Community Feeling Program on the school life satisfaction and depression among elementary school students. Subjects were 38 students who were the fifth grader students and all participants were asked to complete the school life satisfaction scale and depression scale. The pretest and posttest were implemented in order to verify the effectiveness of the program. The program consisted of a total 9 sessions, focusing on building the relationship, self-acceptance, respect for others, cooperation and contribution. The employed statistical analysis was ANCOVA. The results of the study are as follows: First, the Community Feeling Program had an influence on significant improvement in school life satisfaction and its sub-factor, general classes, teacher-student relationships and the physical environment of a school. Second, the Community Feeling Program had an influence on significant effect in depression and its sub-factor, negative mood/physical symptom. Thus, the Community Feeling Program based on Adlerian Psychology has been found to be effective in improving overall school life satisfaction and reducing depression.

  • This thesis is an psychological study investigating the meanings of skin from the perspective of analytical psychology. Skin, as the outermost layer of our body, protects the body and carries out essential physiologic functions. It is an organ of the body and also psychological contents can be expressed on it in various forms. We can find sociocultural connotations of skin, some of which are demonstrated in our language. Skin may become a carrier of persona which defines a person's role in the society. And it can be a place where ego is expressed. Eros is the principle of relationship by Jung's definition and skin is the space where eros is realized intensely. Skin may carry meanings as a symbol of transformation. Skin disease can be interpreted as a message from Self in certain cases. The theme of casting off skin in myths and dreams can be an analogy of an individual's sacrifice for individuation, and putting on a skin may imply taking special properties in psychological level.

  • One of central issues in the Literature and Science discourses during the Victorian era is the relation of physiology to psychology. Many thinkers tackle the question of whether or not psychic phenomena can be reducible to their physiological bases. For instance, Victorian physiologist William Benjamin Carpenter claims that there should be a boundary between physiological and psychological qualities. Yet, his contemporary writer Grant Allen contends for the reduction of psychology into physiology. In the essay, I discuss Grant Allen's work Physiological Aesthetics (1877) so as to eventually problematize his physiological reductionism. I especially highlight the paradox of his physiological aesthetics. In order to clarify my argument, I introduce two concepts: evolutionary aesthetics and physiological reductionism. On the one hand, Allen argues for the development of aesthetic appreciation. The gradual evolution from gaudy to serene colors, for instance, reflects the fine differentiation of sensory organs. He believes that the existence of varied aesthetic pleasures corresponds to the evolution of sensory nerve structures. Nonetheless, Allen ironically gives more weight to the commonality of aesthetic experiences than to this teleological ordering of aesthetic experiences. He argues that there is no fundamental difference among humans in terms of their aesthetic assessments. Furthermore, there is even no essential distinction among plants, animals, and humans in light of their aesthetic appraisals, he states firmly. Although he asserts the gradual advance of aesthetic feelings caused by the intricacy of nervous systems, he simultaneously trivializes the evolution of aesthetic appraisal. In the essay, I highlight this paradox in Allen's physiological aesthetics. It should be underscored, lamentably enough, that Allen seeks biological purity by erasing fine lines among physiology, psychology, and sociality. He estranges aesthetic experiences from subjective variations and their socio-cultural contexts. He makes great efforts to eliminate individual differences and socio-cultural specificities in order to extremely biologize aesthetic experiences. Hence, Allen's physiological aesthetics is marked as the politics of physiological purification.

  • In Korea The understanding about physical body contains several cultural and historical experiences. In the modern times several discussions bring about changes from moral training to physical education. Physical education shows clearly modern physical human being by destructions of confusional human being. In confusional philosophy human body contains moral facts such as moral training. Moral training shows right mind, so every physical acts target mental and cultural training. So in this capitalism, it is needed o training right moral training and right physical education.
