New Worstcase Optimization Method and Process-Variation-Aware Interconnect Worstcase Design Environment (새로운 Worstcase 최적화 방법 및 공정 편차를 고려한 배선의 Worstcase 설계 환경)

  • The rapid development of process technology and the introduction of new materials not only make it difficult for process control but also as a result increase process variations. These process variations are barriers to successful implementation of design circuits because there are disparities between data on layout and that on wafer. This paper proposes a new design environment to determine the interconnect worstcase with accuracy and speed so that the interconnect effects due to process-induced variations can be applied to designs of $0.13{\mu}m$ and below. Common Geometry and Maximum Probability methods have been developed and integrated into the new worstcase optimization algorithm. The delay time of the 31-stage Ring Oscillator, manufactured in UMC $0.13{\mu}m$ Logic, was measured, and the results proved the accuracy of the algorithm. When the algorithm was used to optimize worstcase determination, the relative error was less than 1.00%, two times more accurate than the conventional methods. Furthermore, the new worstcase design environment improved optimization speed by 32.01% compared to that of conventional worstcase optimizers. Moreover, the new worstcitse design environment accurately predicted the worstcase of non-normal distribution which conventional methods cannot do well.

Removal of Hydrogen Sulfide by Using Sodium Carbonate Impregnated Activated Carbon Fiber (탄산나트륨 첨착섬유활성탄을 이용한 황화수소의 제거)

  • We prepared sodium carbonate impregnated activated carbon fiber and evaluated its availability for hydrogen sulfide removal by the comparison with the counterpart, sodium carbonate granular impregnated activated carbon. The sodium carbonate impregnated concentration and immersion duration were chosen as two primary parameters. First, the hydrogen sulfide adsorption capacity increased in proportion to the impregnated concentration up to 3 wt%, above which the sodium carbonate impregnated amount rarely showed an increase due to the pore filling effect for both cases. The optimal impregnated concentration was thus set to 3 wt%. Meanwhile, impregnated activated carbon fiber required only half of the immersion duration compared with granular impregnated activated carbon, while showing a 30% increase on the hydrogen sulfide removal capacity. The greater specific area of impregnated activated carbon fiber explained it. In conclusion, we evaluated advantage of preparation time and improved hydrogen sulfide adsorption capacity by impregnate sodium carbonate, which is capable of reacting with hydrogen sulfide chemically, onto the activated carbon fiber with improved specific area.

Electrochemical Properties of Ionic Liquid Composite Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) Solid Polymer Electrolyte (이온성 액체 복합 Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) 고체 고분자 전해질의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this study, we prepared an ionic liquid composite solid polymer electrolyte (PEO-LiTFSI-$Pyr_{14}TFSI$) with poly(ethylen oxide), lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide by blending-cross linking process. Although the PEO-LiTFSI-$Pyr_{14}TFSI$ composite solid polymer electrolyte displayed a small peak at 4.4 V, it had high electrochemical oxidation stability up to 5.7 V. Ionic conductivity of the PEO-LiTFSI-$Pyr_{14}TFSI$ composite solid polymer electrolyte increased with increasing temperature from $10^{-6}S\;cm^{-1}$ at $30^{\circ}C$ to $10^{-4}S\;cm^{-1}$ at $70^{\circ}C$. To investigate the electrochemical properties, the PEO-LiTFSI-$Pyr_{14}TFSI$ composite solid polymer electrolyte assembled with $LiFePO_4$ cathode and Li-metal anode. At 0.1 C-rate, the cell delivered $40mAh\;g^{-1}$ for $30^{\circ}C$, $69.8mAh\;g^{-1}$ for $40^{\circ}C$ and $113mAh\;g^{-1}$ for $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. The PEO-LiTFSI-$Pyr_{14}TFSI$ solid polymer electrolyte exhibited good charge-discharge performance in Li/SPE/$LiFePO_4$ cells at $50^{\circ}C$.

Development of an Intelligent Legged Walking Rehabilitation Robot (지능적 족형 보행 재활 보조 로봇의 개발)

  • This paper describes a novel type of a walking rehabilitation robot that applies robot technologies to crutches used by patients with walking difficulties in the lower body. The primary features of the developed robot are divided into three parts. First, the developed robot is worn on the patient's chest, as opposed to the conventional elbow crutch that is attached to the forearm; hence, it can effectively disperse the patient's weight throughout the width of the chest, and eliminate the concentrated load at the elbow. Furthermore, it allows free arm motion during walking. Second, the developed robot can recognize the walking intention of the patient from the magnitude and direction of the ground reactive forces. This is done using three-axis force sensors attached to the feet of the robot. Third, the robot can perform a stair walking function, which can change vertical movement trajectories in order to step up and down a single stair according to the floor height. Consequently, we experimentally showed that the developed robot can effectively perform walking rehabilitation assistance by perceiving the walking intention of the patient. Moreover we quantitatively verified muscle power assistance by measuring the electromyography (EMG) signals of the muscles of the lower limb.

Optimized DSP Implementation of Audio Decoders for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (디지털 방송용 오디오 디코더의 DSP 최적화 구현)

  • In this paper, we address issues associated with the real-time implementation of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II (or MUSICAM) and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) on TMS320C64x+ that is a fixed-point DSP processor with a clock speed of 330 MHz. To achieve the real-time requirement, they should be optimized in different steps as follows. First of all, a C-code level optimization is performed by sharing the memory, adjusting data types, and unrolling loops. Next, an algorithm level optimization is carried out such as the reconfiguration of bitstream reading, the modification of synthesis filtering, and the rearrangement of the window coefficients for synthesis filtering. In addition, the C-code of a synthesis filtering module of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II decoder is rewritten by using the linear assembly programming technique. This is because the synthesis filtering module requires the most processing time among all processing modules of the decoder. In order to show how the real-time implementation works, we obtain the percentage of the processing time for decoding and calculate a RMS value between the decoded audio signals by the reference MPEG decoder and its DSP version implemented in this paper. As a result, it is shown that the percentages of the processing time for the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders occupy less than 3% and 11% of the DSP clock cycles, respectively, and the RMS values of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders implemented in this paper all satisfy the criterion of -77.01 dB which is defined by the MPEG standards.

커패시터에의 적용을 위해 PET 필름에 스퍼터 증착한 ZrO2 박막의 특성

  • 최근의 환경 및 에너지에 대한 관심으로 수요가 증가하고 있는 하이브리드 및 전기 자동차나 태양광발전, 풍력발전용의 인버터기기에는 고에너지밀도 커패시터가 필수적이 되었다. 높은 에너지 밀도를 요구하는 전력전자, 펄스파워 등의 응용분야에 사용되는 고에너지밀도 커패시터는 PET (Polyethylene terephtalate)와 PP (Polypropylene)와 같은 폴리머 유전체를 사용하는 범용 필름 커패시터가 사용되었으나 사용 요구 조건의 한계에 도달하여, 새로운 유전체를 적용하는 커패시터가 절실히 필요한 상황이다. PET와 PP와 같은 유전체는 유전상수가 2~3의 낮은 값을 가지고 있어 고에너지밀도를 구현하기가 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 새롭게 요구되고 있는 고에너지 밀도 커패시터의의 성능을 만족시키기 위하여 $20{\sim}50{\mu}m$ 두께의 PET 필름상에 세라믹 유전체인 $ZrO_2$ 박막을 스퍼터(Sputter) 증착법에 의해 코팅하여 종래의 필름 커패시터와 세라믹 커패시터의 장점을 갖는 커패시터를 제조하기 위한 박막 유전재료의 개발을 목표로 하였다. 수백 nm~수 ${\mu}m$ 두께의 $ZrO_2$ 박막을 스퍼터링 공정조건에 따라 증착한 후 박막의 결정성, 기판과의 부착성, 증착속도, 유전상수, 절연파괴강도, 온도안정성 등을 XRD, SEM, AFM, EDS, XPS, Impedance analyzer 등에 의해 평가하였다. $ZrO_2$ 유전체막은 상온에서 증착하였음에도 정방정(tetragonal)구조의 결정질로 성장하였고 증착압력이 증가함에 따라 주피크의 세기가 감소하였다. 증착 중 산소가스를 주입하였을 경우에도 결정질막으로 성장하였다. 증착막들은 산소가스의 양이 증가함에 따라 짙은 흰색으로 변하였으며 PET 기판과의 접착력도 약해졌다. 또한 거칠기는 Ar가스만으로 증착한 경우보다 증가하였으며 24~66 nm의 평균 거칠기값을 보였다. PET위에 Ar가스만으로 증착한 $ZrO_2$의 비유전율은 1kHz에서 116~87의 비유전율을 보여 PET에 비해 매우 우수한 특성을 보였다. $ZrO_2$ 막들은 300kV/cm의 전계에서 대략 10-8A 이하의 누설전류를 보였다. 증착가스비를 달리하여 제조된 시편에서도 유사한 누설전류값을 나타내었다. 300 kV/cm 전후의 전계까지 측정한 $ZrO_2$ 막의 P-E (polarization-electric field) 특성을 확인하였는데, 5 mTorr의 압력에서 증착한 막은 253 kV/cm에서 $5.5{\mu}C/cm^2$의 분극값을 보였다. P-E커브의 기울기와 분극량에 따라 에너지밀도가 달라지므로 공정조건에 따라 에너지밀도가 변화됨을 예측할 수 있었다. PET위에 스퍼터 증착한 $ZrO_2$ 유전체막은 5mTorr의 Ar가스분위기에서 제조할 때 가장 안정적인 구조를 보였으며, 고에너지밀도 커패시터에의 적용가능성을 보였다.

A Study on the Standard Test Method for Thermal Resistance of Military Textile Thermal Insulator for Winter Season (방한을 목적으로 하는 군용 섬유제품 충전재의 보온성 시험방법에 대한 표준화 연구)

  • The performance evaluation of cold weather clothing is mainly carried out with thermal resistance. However, the results of the revised test method regarding the same specimen were decreased compare to previous one. In addition, there were deviations of the results among the authorized testing institutes according to the different interpretation of the KS test method. This makes it a considerable difficulty to the quality assurance of combat supplies. The purpose of this study is to minimize the variation of the results before and after the revision by analyzing the cause of the decrease in the heat insulation rate according to the revised test method. For this purpose, the difference between the test conditions before and after the revision of KS is analyzed and the possible results are reviewed. In addition, we want to minimize the result deviation between testing laboratories by analyzing the cause of the result deviation between test laboratories according to arbitrary interpretation of the standard. Based on this, we propose a standardized test method to prevent the decrease of the heat insulation rate by checking the pre-revision test method and the condition with the least deviation.

Development of Inspection Robot for Removing Snow on Stays of Cable-Stayed Bridge (사장교 케이블의 잔설 제거용 점검 로봇 개발)

  • Safety accidents have been reported due to falling accumulated snow from cables of cable-supported bridges. In addition to the direct damage caused by falling snow, secondary damage, such as traffic accidents, can occur. Various methods have been proposed to prevent these accidents, but there are still problems in safety and practicality. In this study, a cable robot type was selected as one of the active methods for removing accumulated snow on cables. An attempt was made to increase the climbing ability of the robot to improve the efficiency of snow removal. In addition, the available range of cable diameter for the robot can be adjusted flexibly to be applied to cables used in the field. A high-resolution camera was also installed to check the surface condition of the cable in real time to increase the utility, and be used as a cable inspection robot. A three-axis accelerometer and a tension conversion algorithm were added to measure the tension force of cables. To verify the performance, indoor and field experiments were conducted, and future improvements for the inspection robot were proposed.

Non-Marker Based Mobile Augmented Reality Technology Using Image Recognition (이미지 인식을 이용한 비마커 기반 모바일 증강현실 기법 연구)

  • AR(Augmented Reality) technology is now easily shown around us with respect to its applicable areas' being spreaded into various shapes since the usage is simply generalized and many-sided. Currently existing camera vision based AR used marker based methods rather than using real world's informations. For the marker based AR technology, there are limitations on applicable areas and its environmental properties that a user could immerse into the usage of application program. In this paper, we proposed a novel AR method which users could recognize objects from the real world's data and the related 3-dimensional contents are also displayed. Those are done using image processing skills and a smart mobile embedded camera for terminal based AR implementations without any markers. Object recognition is done from the comparison of pre-registered and referenced images. In this process, we tried to minimize the amount of computations of similarity measurements for improving working speed by considering features of smart mobile devices. Additionally, the proposed method is designed to perform reciprocal interactions through touch events using smart mobile devices after the 3-dimensional contents are displayed on the screen. Since then, a user is able to acquire object related informations through a web browser with respect to the user's choice. With the system described in this paper, we analyzed and compared a degree of object recognition, working speed, recognition error for functional differences to the existing AR technologies. The experimental results are presented and verified in smart mobile environments to be considered as an alternate and appropriate AR technology.

PSNR Evaluation of P Company DSA System between Server Display Monitor and Client Display Monitor (P사 DSA 시스템의 Server Display Monitor와 Client Display Monitor의 PSNR 평가)

  • PACS is needed medical imaging with large-capacity storage device. Slower transmission degrades the performance of the PACS. Thus, the image read by the reading of the long-term stored image without compromising the quality of the video, which does not affect future readings in the range will be compressed and stored. Compression and video storage, and video transport Noise generated during storage and transmission of medical images and the resulting loss of information that occurs when the monitor output from many problems. The study estimates server display monitor and client display monitor of philips DSA system, and suggests that the evaluation and improvement about PSNR, process from server display signal obtaining to client display monitor. P company DSA is used in the test. Two monitors that are $1280{\times}1024$ pixel monitor of P company and 1536x2048 pixel monitor of Wide are used displaying angiography picture. MARO-view is taken in PACS program, and Visual $C^{++}$ is taken as accomplishing PSNR measurement program. As a result of experiment, no change in No 1, 3 of PSNR appear that there is no error in telephotograph and display. In terms of compressibility, low compressibility has small change of definition, and there was not remarkable drawback of compressibility which has little change in definition.
