  • Recently, negative emotional responses by drivers are a growing problem, which leads to not only a traffic accident but a crime so called 'road rage' in countries with heavy traffics including South Korea. Under such a circumstance, measuring stress- and fatigue-induced emotional responses by means of wireless communication and a wearable system would be useful. The purpose of this study is to implement a system that measures various signals from a driver, derives and monitors his emotional responses from the measurements and verify its derivations with reliability. This paper, as a first part of the research, describes how the system has been implemented with experimental methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors such as self-esteem, depression, anger expression and social support that affect the health promoting lifestyle in middle-aged women. Number of middle-aged women participated in the survey were 150. Data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires from 1. September to 30. November 2011 and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS windows version 17.0. There were statistically significant differences in the health promoting lifestyle according to the frequency of physical activities, frequency of hobbies or social activities and menstruation state. There were significant positive correlations between health promoting lifestyle and self-esteem, anger-control and social support. Negative correlations were found between health promoting lifestyle and depression, anger-in and anger-out. Self-esteem, social support, frequency of physical activities and frequency of hobbies or social activities were predictors of a health promoting lifestyle. Nurses should focus on factors identified in this study when developing nursing interventions to improve a health promoting lifestyle for middle-aged women.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between stress symptoms and health-promoting behaviors (HPB) among two residence groups of university students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 313 students living in a dormitory and 281 students not living in a dormitory. Data were collected from October 21 to November 20, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Dormitory residents presented higher HPB scores among both genders. For dormitory residents, smoking and drinking affected the HPB, and for non-dormitory residents, scholastic achievement and health status affected the HPB significantly. HPB had significantly negative correlations with depression, anxiety, and anger for dormitory residents and with cognitive disorganization, depression, and anger for non-dormitory residents. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the significant factors for dormitory students in order of importance were depression, anger, and anxiety, and the variance was 67%. For non-dormitory students, the significant factors were depression and anger with a variance of 63%. The results suggest that it is necessary to develop a suitable HPB program for university students.

  • This study describes an emotion classification method using two different feature parameters of four-channel EEG signals. One of the parameters is linear prediction coefficients based on AR modelling. Another one is cross-correlation coefficients on frequencies of ${\theta}$, ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ bands of FFT spectra. Using the linear predictor coefficients and the cross-correlation coefficients of frequencies, the emotion classification test for four emotions, such as anger, sad, joy, and relaxation is performed with an artificial neural network. The results of the two parameters showed that the linear prediction coefficients have produced the better results for emotion classification than the cross-correlation coefficients of FFT spectra.

  • Tele-marketing service has been provided through voice media in a several places such as modern call centers. In modern call centers, they are trying to measure their service quality, and one of the measuring method is a extracting speaker's feeling information in their voice. In this study, it is proposed to analyze speaker's voice in order to extract their feeling information. For this purpose, a person's feeling is categorized by analyzing several types of signal parameters in the voice signal. A person's feeling can be categorized in four different states: joy, sorrow, excitement, and normality. In a normal condition, excited or angry state can be major factor of service quality. In this paper, it is proposed to select a conversation with problems by extracting the speaker's feeling information based on pitches and amplitudes of voice.
