Electrochemical Characteristics of Ruthenium Oxide Electrode-Organic Electrolyte System (유기전해액에서 루테늄산화물 전극의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Electrochemical capacitor made with metal oxide electrode uses rapid and reversible protonation/deprotonation of metal oxide material under the aqueous acidic solution, generally. Electrochemical stability window of aqueous electrolyte-type capacitor is narrow compared to that of organic electrolyte-type capacitor. Electrochemical characteristics of electrochemical capacitor made with metal oxide electrode and lithium or ammonium cation based organic electrolyte were evaluated. Electrochemical capacitor based on $RuO_2$ electrode material and 1M $LiPF_6$ in mixed solvents of EC, DEC, and EMC has anodic and cathodic specific capacitance of 145 and $142F/g-RuO_2{\cdot}nH_2O$, respectively, by using cyclic voltammetry with scan rate of 2mV/sec $g-RuO_2$ in potential range of $2.0\~4.2V(Li|Li^+))$.

The Anti-inflammatory Effect and DPPH Free Radical Scavenging Capability of Rhizoma drynariae Aqueous Extract (골쇄보 열수추출물 약침액의 항염증반응 및 DPPH 라디칼 소거능 활성에 대한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study is to investigate the effects of Rhizoma drynariae aqueous extract(RDA) on cell cytotoxicity, Nitric Oxide (NO) and Prostaglandin $E_2(PGE_2)$ production and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl ghdrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging capability. Methods : Cell cytotoxicity was measured by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay. The production of NO was measured by Griess assay. The production of $PGE_2$ was measured by immunoassay. And, the anti-oxidant activity was measured by the DPPH method. Results : Cell cytotoxicity in 50, 100, 200 and $400{\mu}g/ml$ RDA did not increase significantly compared to the RDA untreated group. RDA($200{\mu}g/ml$ and $400{\mu}g/ml$) inhibited NO and $PGE_2$ production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. RDA had high DPPH free radical scavenging capability. Conclusions : This study indicates that RDA inhibits NO and $PGE_2$ production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and improve DPPH free radical scavenging capability. RDA may have an anti-inflammation effect and an anti-oxidant activity.

Effect of Ginseng Powder and Distillate on Lipid Oxidation, Sensory Properties and Flavor Profiles of Pork Cutlet (인삼분말 및 증류액의 혼합첨가가 돈가스의 지방산화, 관능특성 및 향미성분에 미치는 영향)

  • Pork cutlets containing ginseng powder 1% + ginseng distillate 1%(P1/D1), ginseng powder 2%(P2), ginseng powder 1.5% + ginseng distillate 1.5%(P1.5/D1.5) and ginseng powder 3%(P3) were manufactured and compared with the control(no ginseng powder and distillates) in meat quality, sensory evaluation and flavor intensity. The L values were significantly lower and a values were significantly higher for pork cutlets containing ginseng additives as compared to the control. The pork cutlets containing ginseng powder and distillates were higher in hardness only at the beginning stage, but no significant differences in springness, cohesiveness and chewiness among the treatments were observed during storage at -20$^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks. Flavor analysis indicated that spathulenol, panasinsanol, neointermedol and ginsenol were responsible for ginseng flavor. The sensory panels detected most intense ginseng flavor and taste for pork cutlet which contained combination mixtures of ginseng powder 1.5% and distillate 1.5%. In conclusion, sensory panels evaluated that ginseng distillates produced intense ginseng flavor and enhanced ginseng flavor when used as mixtures with ginseng powder. Therefore, ginseng distillates can be used as a natural antioxidant and flavor enhancer in pork products.

Antioxidant Activity of Green Tea Extracts toward Human Low Density Lipoprotein (사람의 Low Density Lipoprotein에 대한 녹차의 항산화 활성)

  • Green tea leaves 12.5 g were extracted twice with 500 ml boiling water. The green tea extract (GTE) contained 4.67 mg solid. The GTE contained polyphenols sush as 54.12% (-) epicatechin gallate, 26.21% (-) epicatechin, 10.71% epicatechin gallate, 7.09% (-) epicatechin and 1.85% catechin. The GTE inhibited the copper-catalyzed oxidation of human LDL at the concentrations of 50 and $100\;{\mu}g/ml$ GTE in the presence of $5\;{\mu}M$ $CuSO_{4}$. The electrophoretic mobility of the LDL oxidized in the presence of $5\;{\mu}M\;CuSO_{4}$ was higher than that of the native LDL. The GTE also inhibited LDL oxidation induced by J774, human monocyte-derived macrophages and vascular endotherial cells. The LDL modified by copper or cells was inhibited by human macrophages at a much greater rate than native LDL in the presence of GTE. The GTE was found to be a potent inhibitor of modification of LDL. GTE inhibited the uptake of cell-modified $^(125)I-labelled$ LDL by macrophages. The formation of conjugated dienes was strongly inhibited in the presence of 50 or $100\;{\mu}g/ml$ GTE.

Physicochemical Properties of Oxidized Rice Flour and Effects of Added Oxidized Rice Flour on the Textural Properties of Julpyun(Korean traditional rice cake) during Storage (TEMPO를 이용하여 산화시킨 쌀가루의 이화학적 특성 및 산화 쌀가루를 첨가한 절편의 저장 중 텍스처 특성)

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine oxoammonium ion(TEMPO) and sodium bromide(NaBr) for the selective oxidation on primary alcohol groups of rice starch molecules in rice flour and to use oxidized rice flour in Julpyun to extend its shelf life. Reaction time decreased with higher levels of TEMPO and NaBr. Yield and selectivity decreased with increased NaBr levels. TEMPO increased yield until certain levels, but decreased thereafter. The levels of TEMPO and NaBr for the preparation of oxidized rice flour were determined as 0.9 and 44 mM/100 mM anhydroglucose unit, respectively. Water and oil binding capacities, and viscosity increased significantly by the oxidation of rice flour. The partial replacement of rice flour with oxidized rice flour increased peak viscosity and decreased setback. Oxidized rice flour with the increased amount of water showed positive effect on the textural properties of Julpyun during storage.

  • In the present work, the vermicomposting index was investigated using leakage water from sludge to develop the process of mechanization and automation in the earthworm-cast treatment. The in situ sewage sludge was used batch and continuous experiments. Due to different treatment processes, the physico-chemical characteristics of liquid extracted from sludge was the similar change pattern. However, some items, such as Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC) and $NH_3-N$, showed the distinct changes between pre- and post-vermicomposting. Also, The ORP and EC were the best parameters for the vermicomposting index. These results offered that the present vermicomposting technology was an actual earthworm-cast treatment.

  • 목적 : 상지, 상백피, 상엽은 모두 뽕나무에서 유래한 것으로 한의학에서 수천 년 동안 사용되어왔다. 최근 이들의 미백효능이 발견되면서 더욱 주목을 받고 있다. 피부의 멜라닌 색소 침착은 자선에 대한 정상적인 방어기전이다. 그러나 비정상적인 색소침착은 심각한 미용적 문제를 가져온다. 최근 약침이 피부 미백에 이용되고 있다. 또한 발효와 열처리는 미백화장료 가공의 최신 경향이다. 이 연구에서는 상지, 상백피, 상엽 약침액이 발효와 열처리 후에 피부 미백에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 한다. 방법 : 상지, 상백피, 상엽을 각각 4개의 그룹으로 나누었다. (1) 비발효, 비열처리, (2) 비발효, 열처리, (3) 발효, 비열처리, (4) 발효, 열처리한 그룹들에 타이로시나제 활성 및 도파 산화 활성, 그리고 멜라닌 함량을 측정하여 비교하였다. 결과 : 타이로시나제 활성 및 도파 산화 활성, 그리고 멜라닌 함량에 있어서, 발효, 열처리가 대체로 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 멜라닌 함량에 있어서 발효, 열처리한 군이 대조군에 비해 유의성 있는 감소를 보였다. 결론 : 주근깨, 흑색종, 간반(肝斑) 등 비정상적인 색소 침착 질환을 치료하기 위한 상지, 상백피, 상엽 약침액 제조에 있어, 발효 및 열처리 방식을 적용하면 보다 나은 미백효능을 발휘할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • Ferro-Nickel slag is a byproduct of Ferro-Nickel manufacturing process. Ferro-Nickel slag mostly discarded or used as aggregates despite having useful ingredients such as magnesium oxide and silicon oxide. This study tried to extract process for Mg ion using $H_2SO_4$ solution. And remove impurities and get high purity $Mg(OH)_2$ using NaOH. Mg ion was extracted with the Fe ion and other Ferro-Nickel slag composition by $H_2SO_4$ solution. It is important to control the pH because remove impurities and obtain high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$. The impurities were removed by precipitation of the hydroxides. After this process, we added NaOH and high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$ was obtained.

Morphological Study of Acute Lung Injury Induced by Interleukin-1$\alpha$ Intratracheally in Young and Old Rats (젊은 흰쥐와 늙은 흰쥐에서 인터루킨-1$\alpha$로 유도된 급성폐손상에 관한 형태학적 연구)

  • In order to investigate the effect of aging and the $H_2O$$_2$ localization in association with histological, ultrastructural, and cytochemical studies in lung tissue after interleukin-1$\alpha$(IL-1) induced lung injury, an acute lung injury was induced by instillation of IL-1 into the trachea. Both of 4- and 20-months-old male rats, protein contents in IL-1 treated branchoalveolar lavage increased significantly compared to each control rats. Acute lung injury occured by oxidative stress because neutrophils accumulated in vascular lumen and formed the adhesion with endothelial cells. As these cause, tissue proteins were exuded and leukocytes migrated into the alveolar lumen. Neverthless in these lung injury $H_2O$$_2$ localization of IL-1 treated 20 months rats was not different compared to IL-1 treated 4 months rats. After all aging was not a factor to accelate IL-1 induced lung injury. Based on these results, it is suggested that neutrophil infilteration might be an important cause in acute lung injury, and aging is not a factor to change the acute lung injury by oxidative stress.

Anodic Oxidation of Potassium Iodide Solution (Ⅰ) (요오드화칼륨 수용액의 양극산화 (제1보))

  • To investigate the mechanism of the reaction of electrolytic oxidation of iodide to iodate ions, polarization curves are determined in various kinds of solution using electrodeposited lead peroxide and platinum anodes. It was observed from the polarization curves that the limiting current is exists at concentration 1.5 M of potassium iodide, and these limiting current disappeared as potassium hydroxide was added up to concentration of 0.1 M. while in case of platinum anode, limiting current did not appear in dilute potassium iodide solution. These results are owing to the chemical reaction, $PbO_2+2I^{-}+2H^+{\to}PbO+I_2+H_{2}O$ ocurring at the surface of lead peroxide anode. Also, we studied to obtain the optimum conditions of electrolytic preparation of iodate from iodide solution using a cell without the diaphragm. The results are that; (a) addition of potassium dichromate at the anti-reducing agent is proper in concentration of 0.1 g/l, (b) electrolytic temperature is not so much effective in raising the current efficiency, (c) current efficiency is increased with current density, and (d) electrolysis is the most effective in weak alkaline solutions.
