In this study, we conducted mathematics teacher training courses for an applying of 'Socratic method' in school mathematics. Teacher training courses were conducted with a total of 3 hours for 68 secondary mathematics teachers. In these courses, we overviewed the characteristics of Socratic method. Moreover we examined the mathematics lessons by Socratic method. And we dealt with the educational examples of Socratic method identified in previous studies. In addition, the survey was conducted before and after the teacher training courses. Through the survey, teachers have an opportunity to check their knowledge on Socratic method and reflect on their mathematics class. Based on the survey response data, we analyzed mathematics teachers' knowledge on Socratic method and the changes in teachers' thinking on their mathematics class. Based on the findings of this study, we proposed three directions of teacher education.
This study was conducted in 2008 with 80 in-service mathematics teachers. We took a course that was consisted of a lecture and a practice on Socrates' method. In our study, mathematics teachers conducted making a teaching plan by using Socrates' method. But we became know that we need to offer concrete ideas or examples for mathematics teachers in order to apply Socrates' method effectively. Therefore we tried to search for educational methods in using Socrates' method to teach school mathematics. After investigating of preceding researches, we selected some examples. On the basis of these examples, we suggested concrete methods in using Socrates' method. That is as follows. Socrates' method need to be used in the context mathematical problem solving. Socrates' method can be applied in the process of overcoming cognitive obstacles. A question in using Socrates' method have to guide mathematical thinking (or attitude). When we use Socrates' method in the teaching of a proof, student need to have an opportunity to guess the conclusion of a proposition. The process of reflection revision-improvement can be connected to using Socrates' method.

The field trial was performed to evaluate the rice growth and yield in different direct seeding methods. The required time for seed emergence was for 8~ 9days in the tested direct seeding methods and there was high in seedling establishment according to wet hill-seeding with iron-coated seeds> wet hill-seeding with soil coverage>water seeding with iron-coated seeds and water seeding with pregerminated seeds as the conventional treatment. The rice plant height was taller in wet hill-seeding methods than that of water seeding with broadcasting method but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis at 75day after seeding except the water seeding with pregerminated seeds. The growth of tiller number in the rice plant was highest in water seeding with iron-coated seeds. The milled rice yield was highest in water seeding with iron-coated seed being with 6.4t/ha and percentage of head rice was the highest in wet hill-seeding and water seeding with iron-coated seeds.

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of seeding method on winter survival and dry matter yield of Italian ryegrass(Lolium multiflorum Lam. "Kospeed") in paddy field for two years. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatment consisted of four different seeding methods, R-LS-P(rotary-line sowing-packing), R-BS-P(rotary-broadcast seeding-packing), R-BS(rotary-broadcast seeding), R-BS-TR(rotary-broadcast seeding-trifling rotary), BS-TR(broadcast seeding-trifling rotary). The emergence ratio of broadcast was decreased by 12% and winter survival was decreased by 17% compared with line sowing. The R-BS-TR treatment which was practical seeding method of rye was decreased seeding stand ratio by 65.2% and winter survival by 6.7% compared with others seeding methods. Dry matter yield of line sowing(8,151 kg/ha) was higher than that of broadcast(6,281 kg/ha) and R-BS-P treatment was the highest DM yield as 7,166 kg/ha. There was not found significant difference among seeding method in forage quality. The results of this experiment indicated that R-BS-P(rotary-broadcast seeding-packing) was recommendable the best seeding method after harvested whole crop rice in paddy field.
This study was aimed to provide understanding on the eco-physiological response of barley tillers as affected by sowing method. Yield and yield contribution rates of tillers were investigated with the data of field experiments in the Honam Crops Experiment Station of Iri, Korea from October 1986 to July 1987. Narrow-seeding (each row placement 40cm$\times$seeding width of each row 18cm), drill-seeding (20cm$\times$5cm) and broadcasting on wide ridge (each ridge placement 120cm$\times$ridge width 90cm) were applied to examine the effects of various sowing methods. Primary tillers such as mainstem, 1 and 2 produced ears in all treatments, but the ear from a secondary tiller of 11 was observed only in broadcasting on wide ridge. Drill-seeding was the highest in number of spikelet, grain and plump grain per ear, while narrow-seeding being the lowest. The plump grain yield per square meter was 679.8g in narrow-seeding, while drill-seeding and broadcasting produced more than narrow seeding by 28.7% and 16.8% respectively. The actual yields per l0a for sowing methods showed a similar pattern to plump grain yield per square meter in which the yield was 567.6kg by narrow-seeding and the increments of drill-seeding and broadcasting were 30.6% and 15.4%, respectively.

The rice plant height was shorter in the tested direct seeding methods than that of machine transplanting until 45day after seeding but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis at 63day after seeding. The growth of tiller number in the rice plant was high in water seeding with iron-coated seeds and wet hill-seeding with soil coverage and low in wet hill-seeding with iron-coated seeds compared to machine transplanting. The yield component in the tested direct seeding methods was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis. The milled rice yield in the tested direct seeding methods was higher 2 ~ 8% being with 4.94 ~ 5.24t/ha than that of machine transplanting but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis. The percentage of head rice was low in the tested direct seeding methods compared to machine transplanting. The weedy rice was not occurred in the tested rice cultivation methods. In conclusion the direct seeding method would be recommended to be a suitable to in following by Italian ryegrass harvesting in southern area of Korea in terms of reduction in production cost and high income basis for rice growing farmers.
This experiment was conducted to compare the change of growth and canopy photosynthesis between transplanting and direct seeding on paddy surface in rice. Total tiller number by the early vegetative growth stage was significantly higher in the direct seeding flooded paddy surface, while it was reversed from later vegetative growth stage in terms of tillering ability per unit period. But total panicle number was higher in direct seeding on paddy surface. Leaf area index, nitrogen content in leaf blade and canopy photosynthetic ability at later vegetative growth stage were lower in direct seeding on flooded paddy surface than transplanting. Biological yield at harvest stge, leaf area index and conopy photosynthetic activity at heading stage were gradually increasing according to nitrogen level increased both transplanting and direct seeding on paddy surface. Leaf area index, canopy photosynthetic activity, however, were lower in direct seeding on paddy surface than transplanting in the same nitrogen level. Nitrogen content per unit leaf area was high in transplanting.
Weedy rice is one of the major problems in direct-seeded rice field, resulting in poor rice quality and low grain yield. This study was carried out to evaluate the conversion effect to machine transplanting after wet-direct- seeding for 3 years on weedy rice occurrence, in comparison of repeated wet-direct-seeding. Occurrence of weedy rice in the continuous wet-hill-seeded and broadcasted field for 3 years increased 4 folds, when compared with that in machine transplanted rice paddy. In the first year of wet-direct-seeded field converted from machine transplanting, weedy rice occurrence did not increase, demonstrating lesser weedy rice in wet-hill-seeded than broadcasted field. These results indicate that alternate cultivation of wet-hill-seeding and machine transplanting is more effective to prevent weedy rice occurrence than the repeated wet-direct-seeding method for 3 years.

The required time for seed emergence was for 9~11days in the tested direct seeding methods. That was 1~2days earlier in direct seeding with pregerminated seeds than that of direct seeding with iron-coated seeds. The seedling establishment was highest in water seeding with iron-coated seeds but there was not significant difference in terms of statistical analysis. The rice plant height was taller in water seeding with broadcasting method than that of wet hill-seeding methods and in direct seeding with iron-coated seeds than that of direct seeding with pregerminated seeds. The tiller number in the rice plant was the highest in machine transplanting at 30days after direct seeding(June 17) and in water seeding with iron-coated seeds at 45days after seeding(DAS) and 60DAS. The tiller number of 75 and 90DAS in the tested rice cultivation methods being with 352~405/m2 was not significantly different in terms of statistical analysis. The heading time was not different in rice direct seeding methods but 2 day earlier in direct seeding with iron-coated seeds than that of direct seeding with pregerminated seeds. The culm length was the highest in water seeding with iron-coated seeds and the panicle length was the longest in wet hill-seeding with pregerminated seeds. The panicle number per m2 was highest in water seeding with iron-coated seeds but not significant difference among the tested rice cultivation methods. The water seeding with iron-coated seeds resulted in the highest spikelet number per m2 and the heaviest grain weight of brown rice. Percentage of ripened kernel was the highest in wet hill-seeding with iron-coated seeds. But there were not significant among the tested rice cultivation methods. The milled rice yield in direct seeding methods was 3~21% higher than that in machine transplanting. Water seeding with iron-coated seeds recorded the highest milled rice yield being with 6.86t/ha.The occurrence of sheath blight was high according to machine transplanting>wet hill-seeding>water seeding. Weed occurrence was the highest in water seeding with pregerminated seeds. Weedy rice occurred not in machine transplanting but occured 0.6~0.7% in direct seeding methods with pregerminated seeds and 0.1% in direct seeding with iron-coated seeds.
In this research, we investigated the effects of mathematics education in using Socrates , method in a course of mathematics education in teacher's college. And we proposed some suggestions for education of future mathematics teachers. This study was conducted with 44 university students(third grade) who entered the department of mathematics education (future mathematics teachers) in 2005. We took a course in curriculum that was required for the future mathematics teachers in my department. In this course, we began with the reading the famous dialogue between Socrates and Meno's slave. And we analysed Socrates' questioning of Meno's slave and tried to understand what this dialogue is implicating in mathematics education. All the participants in this course was divided 11 groups. Each group designed a school mathematics class plan using Socrates' method and practiced their teaching plan by a performance(students' announcements). Through the analysis of research data. Five effects of mathematics education in using Socrates' method for future mathematics teachers were induced. Therefore, we suggest that future mathematics teacher need to have many opportunity to design and practice a mathematics teaching plan by using mathematics teaching-learning methods taught in their course.
