The subjects in this study were the workers in five different companies in North Jeolla Province. After a survey was conducted from August 1 to September 20, 2012, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: The office workers got 2.59 in oral dryness, and the sales associates got 1.82. The oral dryness of the former was severer than that of the latter (p<0.001). The irregular workers got 2.05 in OHIP-14, and the regular workers got 1.82 (p<0.001). Symptom of dry mouth had a positive correlation to OHIP-14 (r=0.456). OHIP-14 was positively correlated with age (r=0.209) and negatively with academic credential (r=-0.136). OHIP-14 was more significantly affected when their symptom of dry mouth was severer (${\beta}=0.383$, p<0.001), when they were older (${\beta}=0.221$, p<0.001) and when they felt they had oral diseases (${\beta}=0.146$, p<0.01). In conclusion, quality programs should be developed to promote the oral health of industrial workers in consideration of the influential factors for the oral health-related quality of life of the workers, and the government should pay more attention to related policy setting to improve the oral health of industrial workers.

Methods: Self-administered survey was successfully finished by 103 labor union associates (91 employed in 78 manufacturing companies and 12 employed in 12 constructing companies over 12 areas). Two questionnaires, survey direction slip, the official letter to ask survey participation from Korea Ministry of Labor, and a posted envelop to return were delivered to each workplace labor union office in conveniently selected companies. Most participants' companies were at least medium to large in manufacturing industry and most associates were men and married. A survey questionnaire examined demographic characteristics, SHEW status (participation status included), and perceptions of SHEW. Results: Overall, manufacturing companies had better infrastructures for SHEW, employer support for SHEW, and current educators' competencies than constructing companies. These infrastructures for SHEW were closely correlated with company labor union participation on SHEW and the correlation coefficients were greater than any other expectations or needs variables for SHEW. Conclusions: The primary strategies for better participation and support from labor union need to be developed in supporting for organizational infrastructures related to SHEW and strengthening safety and health education training programs for supervisors or educators at work.

  • Purpose: This study applies an ecological model to investigate individual and organizational levels to identify factors influencing the HRQOL of industrial employees. Methods: Totally, 133 industrial workers of a vehicle company were enrolled, who understood the purpose and consented to participate in the study. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe Test and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: Hierarchical regression analysis showed that job Stress(β=-.44, p<.001), and hobbies(β=-.21, p=.013) were the major influencing factors of the Physical Component Summary of HRQOL, which had an additional explanatory power of 11.5%. The influencing factors for the Mental Component Summary of HRQOL were job stress(β=-.43, p<.001), and coronary artery disease(β=.17, p=.034) with an additional explanatory power of 13.5%. Conclusion: Results of this study, reveal that a multidimensional approach based on an ecological model is suitable as a health promotion intervention strategy to improve the HRQOL.
