  • Analysis on high-resolution seismic and core data reveals that the sedimentary strata in Gyeonggi Bay consists of four sedimentary units (Unit I-IV, from top to bottom) formed during the late Quaternary period. Unit I is interpreted as sediments of tidal flat and channel-fill deposits, formed during the Holocene transgression. Unit II is divided into shallow-marine facies unit in offshore area and channelized fluvial to estuarine facies unit in nearshore sand ridge and tidal flat. Unit III is considered as tidal flat deposits with the uppermost severely weathered and oxydized layers. This unit is composed of shallow marine sedimentary successions formed during the MIS-5 highstand. The lowermost Unit IV rests on Mesozoic basement rocks, considered as the shallow marine and shelf deposits formed before the MIS-5 lowstand.

  • In this paper we identify that there are High Higher surfaces(HH-surface) around Jeongdongjin and Daejin area where Higher surfaces(H-surface) of marine terrace are formed on a large scale. On the basis of an altitude of the ancient shoreline of the marine terraces, geomorphic surfaces can be classified into HH I (140m a.s.l), HH II (110m a.s.l), H I (90m a.s.l), H II (70m a.s.l), M (40m a.s.l), L I (25m a.s.l) and L II (10m a.s.l). Besides, we identify that the lowest surfaces(5~6m a.s.l) are found extensively in the research area which are assumed to be formed in the Holocene. Considering that the formation mechanism of the marine terraces in the research area is similar to that of the marine terraces at both Campo area in the south east coastal region of Korea md the thalassostatic terraces of Osip River in Samchuk in a short distance from the research area, we can assume that the HH-surfaces in both areas were formed in the same period. Based on the fact that L I- surface was formed on the Last Interglacial Stage of MIS 5, we can infer that M- was formed in MIS 7, H I- in MIS 9, H II- in MIS 11, HH I- in MIS 13 and HH II- in MIS 15. The reason for that H-surfaces, similar to those at Gampo area, to remain on a large scale is that the Holsteinian Interglacial continued for a long period of time and at that time there was a large wave-cut platform in the vicinity of the shoreline.

  • Terrace morphology is so conspicuous in the south eastern coastal areas. Coastal terraces can be divided into 5 main surfaces, including beach and coastal alluvial plain(AP, $4{\sim}5m$), Low Terrace(LT, 8 $^{\sim}$ 25m), Middle Terrace(MT, 36 $^{\sim}$ 55m), High Terrace(HT, 63 $^{\sim}$ 86m) and upper High Terrace(uHT, above 90m). Among them Lower Terrace Formation is distributed between 8m and 20m in altitude. Both Tephra deposited of LT2 formation and OSL datings of sand layers in LT 2 and LT 3 Formations support the age of the LT 2 formation is MIS 5d or 5e, most probably 5e. The age of LT 3 is interpreted MIS 5a, based on tephra production in organic mud layers and OSL dating of sand deposits just above the beach pebbles of the LT 3. Particularly the transgression, possibly equivalent to the well-known Monastirrian episode in the Mediterranean Sea.

  • The Osip-cheon river flowing on the east side of the Taeback mts. has formed river terraces on the several heights along the middle- and downstream. The river terraces are classified into 5 climatic ones and 7 thalassostatic ones. The thalassostatic ones are found to the height of 145-l50m level at 20-30m intervals. These vertical distribution is caused by the continuous uplift and periodical rise and fall of the sea-level. The high higher surfaces among the thalassostatic ones are the highest among those of Korea. The chronologies of the terraces are correlated to the marine oxygen isotope stages : The thalassostatic terraces on the level of 40 m.a.s.l. are to the stage 7, 70 m.a.s.l.. to the stage 9, 90 m.a.s.l. to the stage 9, 110 m.a.s.1. to the stage 11 and those of 150 m.a.s.1. to the stage 15 among the Interglacial Ages. The landuses and geomorphic landscapes of the Samchok area are chracteristic, because the karst landforms, such as doline and uvala, are developed on the surfaces of the middle-, the higher- and the high higher surfaces of river terrace.

  • Electrum-galena-sphalerite mineralization of the Yangpyeong-Weonju Au-Ag area was deposited in three stages of quartz and calcite veins which fill fault breccia zones. Fluid inclusion and stable isotope data show that ore mineralization was deposited at temperatures between $260^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$ from fluids with salinities between 8.9 and 2.9 equivalent weight percent NaCl. Evidence of boiling indicates pressures of <50 bars, corresponding to depths of 220 to 550 m, respectively, assuming lithostatic and hydrostatic loads. Au-Ag deposition was likely a result of bolling coupled with cooling. Within stages I and II there is an apparent increase in ${\delta}^{34}S$ values of $H_2S$ with paragenetic time ; early -1.4~2.7‰ to later 6.6-9.2‰. The progressively heavier $H_2S$ values can be generated through isotopic re-equilibration in the ore fluid following removal of $H_2S$ by boiling or precipitation of sulfides. Measured and calculated hydrogen and oxygen isotope values of ore-forming fluids suggest meteoric water dominance, approaching unexchanged meteoric water values. Comparison of these values with those of other Korean Au-Ag deposits reveals a relationship between depth and degree of water-rock interaction. All investigated Korean Jurassic and Cretaceous gold-silver-bearing deposits have fluids which are dominantly evolved, meteoric water, but on1y deeper systems (${\geq}1.25km$) are exclusively gold-rich.
