  • 접지된 유전체슬랩 위에 주기적으로 스트립이 놓여있는 격자구조에 대한 전자파 산란현상을 반사격자(reflection grating) 관점과 누설파안테나(leaky wave antenna) 관점에서 조사하였다. 수치해석 결과로 입사파의 편파에 무관한 Bragg blazing 현실과 동시에 Bragg 및 off-Bragg blazing 현상이 확인되는 경우를 조사하였으며 그 특성(복소전파상수, 복사패턴, 산란특성)에 대하여 논의하였다.

Simulation and Evaluation of the KOMPSAT/OSMI Radiance Imagery (다목적 실용위성 해색센서 (OSMI)의 복사영상에 대한 모의 및 평가)

  • The satellite visible data have been successfully applied to study the ocean color. Another ocean color sensor, the Ocean Scanning Multi-spectral Imager (OSMI) on the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) will be launched in 1999. In order to understand the characteristics of future OSMI images, we have first discussed the simulation models and procedures in detail, and produced typical patterns of radiances at visible bands by using radiative transfer models. The various simulated images of full satellite passes and Korean local areas for different seasons, water types, and the satellite crossing equator time (CET) are presented to illustrate the distribution of each component of radiance (i.e., aerosol scattering, Rayleigh scattering, sun glitter, water-leaving radiance, and total radiance). A method to evaluate the image quality and availability is then developed by using the characteristics of image defined as the Complex Signal Noise Ratio (CSNR). Meanwhile, a series of CSNR images are generated from the simulated radiance components for different cases, which can be used to evaluate the quality and availability of OSMI images before the KOMPSAT will be placed in orbit. Finally, the quality and availability of OSMI images are quantitatively analyzed by the simulated CSNR image. It is hoped that the results would be useful to all scientists who are in charge of OSMI mission and to those who plan to use the data from OSMI.

  • The frequency dependency of the Rayleigh surface wave was investigated indirectly by measuring the angular dependency of the backward radiation of the incident ultrasonic wave in the abrasion specimens, which was explained in view of the residual stress distribution. The peak intensity of the backward radiation profile decreased and the right half width of the profile increased with an increase of the variational rate of residual stress for the scuffing specimen. The peak intensity was also affected by the surface wave scattering during the propagation around the micro-damages. The peak angle might depend on not only the amount of residual stress but also the micro-structure. The result observed in this study demonstrates the high potential of the backward radiated ultrasound as a tool for the nondestructive evaluation of the subsurface gradients of materials.

  • The angular dependence(profile) of backward radiated ultrasound was measured for glass specimens with random surface roughness using ultrasonic goniometer that ran changes the incident angle continuously. It was concluded that the roughened region had greater acoustic impedance than the unperturbed region. The comparison of backward radiations showed that the amplitude of peak and the area of radiation profile were increased with surface roughness. It was suggested from the sensitive dependence of the profile area that the profile of backward radiation could be applied to in the nondestructive evaluation of sulfate region. Inclined C-scan technique with the transducer inclined at Rayleigh angle showed the reverse of luminosity and the high signal to noise ratio so that it provided high resolution.

Sensitivity Analysis of Volcanic Ash Inherent Optical Properties to the Remote Sensed Radiation (화산재입자의 고유 광학특성이 원격탐사 복사량에 미치는 민감도 분석)

  • Volcanic ash (VA) can be estimated by remote sensing sensors through their spectral signatures determined by the inherent optical property (IOP) including complex refractive index and the scattering properties. Until now, a very limited range of VA refractive indices has been reported and the VA from each volcanic eruption has a different composition. To improve the robustness of VA remote sensing, there is a need to understanding of VA - radiation interactions. In this study, we calculated extinction coefficient, scattering phase function, asymmetry factor, and single scattering albedo which show different values between andesite and pumice. Then, IOPs were used to analyze the relationship between theoretical remote sensed radiation calculated by radiative transfer model under various aerosol optical thickness (${\tau}$) and sun-sensor geometries and characteristics of VA. It was found that the mean rate of change of radiance at top of atmosphere versus ${\tau}$ is six times larger than in radiance values at 0.55 ${\mu}m$. At the surface, positive correlation dominates when ${\tau}$ <1, but negative correlation dominates when ${\tau}$ >1. However, radiance differences between andesite and pumice at 11 ${\mu}m$ are very small. These differences between two VA types are expressed as the polynomial regression functions and that increase as VA optical thickness increases. Finally, these results would allow VA to be better characterized by remote sensing sensors.

  • Radiation properties of flush mounted circular patch antennas are investigated. The patch is fed axis-symmetrically by a coaxial cable. Rigorous analysis iscarried out using integral transform and mode matching techniques. The presented method can accommodate a radiating patch, integrated matching section and band pass filter.

  • 대기 중의 에어로졸은 지구의 복사평형에 직ㆍ간접적으로 영향을 끼친다. 직접적인 영향으로는 에어로졸이 가시광선과 자외선 영역의 에너지를 산란 또는 흡수함으로써 기후에 영향을 미치며, 간접적으로는 microphysical process에 의한 구름의 특성을 변화시키거나 불균일적인 화학반응을 통해서 복사특성을 지니는 가스들을 변화시킴으로써 기후에 영향을 미친다. 이러한 복합적 영향에 의한 인위적 에어로졸의 복사강제효과는 온실가스와는 반대의 영향을 끼치며 그 양은 -0.4~-3.0 W/$m^2$로 온실가스에 상응하는 값을 지니고 그 양과 공간적 분포로 인한 불확실성을 가지고 있다.   • The infrared reflection coatings with pigment can be used to protect the surfaces of combustible materials exposed to fire. To obtain high reflectivities in the infrared range (0.5-10.mu.m) important to fire, several dielectric pigments, such as titanium dioxide, iron oxide, and silicon, can be synthesized to polymer coatings. The theoretical analysis shows that the coating design with particles diameter in the 1.5 to 2.5.mu.m range and volume fraction in the 0.1 to 0.2 range is estimated to be optimal. In the analysis of the radiation, the dependent scattering, absorption by polymeric binder, and the internal interface reflection are considered. In addition, the temperature distribution in the semi-transparent coating layer and an opaque substrate (PMMA) is also presented.
