The Effects of Social Support on Career Stress in Health Science College Students (보건계열 대학생의 사회적 지지가 진로 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out whether social support perceived by a health science student affects career stress and to provide basic data for counseling using social support as an effective career guidance. This study subject to 307 students from J university in Jeonju. The survey was conducted by questionnaire. The survey content consisted of social support, career stress, and general characteristics of the subject. The study found that the lower the academic stress, the higher the social support score in the high family socioeconomic status group and the higher the academic stress, the higher the career stress in the general characteristics of the subjects. Based on the results of this study, we have confirmed that social support affects career Stress. Therefore, social support may serve as a protection factor for health science students who received career stress by relieving stress and improving satisfaction with own life.

The Relationship between Social Support of Teachers and Academic Engagement of Specialized Vocational High School Students (특성화고등학교 학생의 수업몰입과 교사의 사회적지지의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide necessary information to understand characteristics of vocational high school students and to enhance academic engagement through social support of teachers, leading to help research of teaching and learning strategy. A survey was conducted on 990 engineering major students attending 11 vocational high schools in Seoul metropolitan, Chungcheong, Jeolla, Kyeongsang and Kangwon regions. A questionnaire consists of measurement tools for the academic engagement (21 questions) and the social support of teachers (25 questions). The findings of this study are as follows: First, it is found that the level of students' academic engagement was high. But it appears that the students showed low engagement of emotion compared with that of behavior and cognition. There was no level difference according to gender, but there was a considerable difference according to a school year. The first year students' level of engagement was higher than the second and the third year students' in terms of cognition and emotion. Second, it shows that the level of the teachers' social support was normal, which was in the order of appraisal support, instrumental support, informational support, and emotional support. Especially, the level of appraisal support and instrumental support was most. Third, there were correlation and explanation between students' academic engagement and teachers' social support. Moreover, the result that teachers' emotional support has high correlation and explanation in qualitative terms of academic engagement support the importance. Therefore, it is concluded that the social support of teachers can make an positive influence on improving the academic engagement of students and provide students with adaptability and satisfaction with their school life, which may give students a positive effect in emotional development, self-formation, and complement.

A Study on the Experience of Social Support in the Education and Care of Children of Married Migrant Women (결혼이주여성의 자녀 교육과 돌봄에서 사회적 지지 경험연구)

  • This study explored the experience of social support in the education and rearing of children of immigrant women through international marriage and found its essential meaning. First of all, the husband's social support was very important, but the relationship with the husband had a different effect on childrearing and education. Parents-in-law had a positive and negative impact on child rearing and education of them due to cultural conflicts between the two countries. Their own mother was a strong support that gave them great strength just by being there, and as their children grew up, they regarded their mother as the source of bilingual education for their children. Other supporters around them were Korean friends who connected Korean society by sharing information on child care and education. Friends who spoke and communicated in their native language were emotional and psychological supporters that bonded the same experience of parenting and education for their children. In conclusion, the research participants expected a better life for themselves and their children by using a multi-layered social support system as well as a transnational family network in the process of child education and care. Accordingly, it was proposed to systematically improve the laws, systems, and policy support so that the social support system can be further strengthened at the family, community, and transnational levels for the education and care of children of immigrant women through international marriage.

  • This study synthetically investigated the relationship between social support and ego resilience, job satisfaction of the public health center workers providing medical service to local residents at the front. Unlike previous researches, this study took all variables of social support, ego resilience and job satisfaction into account, moreover, regarded it as important to verify mediated effect of ego resilience through influencing relationship between social support and job satisfaction. At the result of actual proof analysis via surveys, the social support of the public health center workers indicated the mediated effect on ego resilience and job satisfaction, besides, ego resilience influenced on job satisfaction and the mediated effect of ego resilience was also shown. Therefore, this study emphasized importance of the psychological satisfaction for the public health center workers as to provide residents better medical service based on the empirical testing result.

Interpersonal Problems and Depression in Nursing Student : Moderating Effects of Online and Offline Social Support (간호대학생의 대인관계문제와 우울 관계 : 온라인 및 오프라인 사회적 지지의 조절효과)

  • Purpose: This study is a structural model study to grasp the moderating effect of online and offline social support in interpersonal and depressive relationships of nursing students. Methods: This study surveyed 264 nursing students. The collected data is analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and PLS-SEM(Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model) using SPSS 25.0 and Smart PLS 3.0. Results: Interpersonal relationship problems and online social support had a significant effect on increasing depression, and offline social support had a significant effect on reducing depression. In addition, in the relationship between interpersonal problems and depression, only offline social support was found to be significant in the moderating effect. Conclusion: To reduce depression due to interpersonal problems of nursing college students, offline social support should be actively provided, and to investigate the moderating effect of online social support, a repetitive study is proposed that includes relevant variables such as social relationship types through SNS.

The influence of Social networks and Social support on Depression : for Older Women in Rural area (농촌 여성노인의 사회적 지지망과 사회적지지가 우울에 미치는 융합적인 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify influence of social networks and social support on depression among older women in rural area on agricultural off-season. The sample consisted of 112 women aged 65 years or over who lived in rural areas of Chung-Nam. Some variables related to depression in older women, including depression, social network, social support were measured using reliable instruments. Pathway analysis was used to test the proposed conceptual model designed to explain the direct, indirect and total effect between social networks and social support on depression. Result, direct effect of satisfaction with kin network and instrumental support on depression was found. And indirect effect of network size with kin, satisfaction with kin network on depression was found. Based on these results, it is necessary to develop supportive system to reduce depression and to improve satisfaction with kin network and instrumental support.

The Effect of Discrimination on Self-rated Health among Foreign Spouses: The moderating Effects of Social Support and Subjective Social Status (결혼이민자의 차별경험이 주관적 건강에 미치는 영향과 사회적 지지와 주관적 사회적 지위의 조절효과)

  • This study aims to examine the moderating effects of social support and subjective social status in the relationship between discrimination and self-rated health among foreign spouses. For the analysis, data from the 2015 National Survey of Multicultural Families was used and a total of 16,870 foreign spouses were selected using hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study showed that discrimination was negatively related with self-rated health while social support and subjective social status were positively related with self-rated health of foreign spouses. Also, the moderating effect of subjective social status was identified, which means that it enhanced the positive effect of discrimination on self-rated health. This study provided empirical evidence for implementation of social integration policies. The authors suggested future qualitative research of discrimination and health, and social policies and services promoting equal opportunities for foreign spouses.

Depression and Social Support among Adults in Jeju Province, South Korea (제주지역 성인의 사회적 지지와 우울)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to compare depression and social support according to general characteristics and to investigate the influence of social support on depression. Methods: This study analyzed raw data from a project funded by Jeju Province. Data were collected through home visit interview with 750 households selected by using a randomized cluster sampling method. CES-D was used to measure depression, and the Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey was used to measure social support. The data of 1,155 subjects were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and regression. Results: The mean was 11.35 for depression and 75.53 for social support. Women showed a higher depression score and a lower social support score than men did. Older people; the divorced or the bereaved; and those in groups comprising people with lower education, lower social class, poor health, or high stress presented higher depression and lower social support. The result of stepwise regression showed that social support was one of the predictive variables of depression, and 22% of variance was explained by social support in this study. Conclusions: Social support was a powerful predictive variable of depression, and it was suggested that to prevent and manage depression, strategies that enhance social support should be developed and evaluated.

Effect of Social Support for Social Welfare Workers on Job Satisfaction -Focusing on local child care center- (사회복지사의 사회적 지지가 직무만족에 미치는 영향 -지역아동센터를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect that the social support for social welfare workers who are the key personnel providing the service to children directly at local child care center would have on job satisfaction. For this study, the social welfare workers of local child care center in Jeollanam-do were surveyed. A total of 240 questionnaires which had been collected were used for analysis. This study analyzed the effect of social support on job satisfaction by defining the demographic characteristics of social welfare workers as the control variables. The results of the analysis showed that the social support had the greatest influence on job satisfaction. Such results suggest that the stronger social support for social welfare workers would increase the job satisfaction of social welfare workers. Based on the results of the analysis, the following recommendations are presented which can help increase social support for social welfare workers: First, it is necessary to standardize the works of social welfare workers at local child care center and provide them with specialized training and education. Second, additional points should be granted to excellent local child care centers. Third, a cooperation system needs to be established which links the networks of colleagues and local societies.
