A Quantitative Study on Growth of Social Enterprise in Korea - Focused on Financial Performance during 2007~2010 - (사회적기업의 성장에 관한 양적 분석 - 2007~2010년 경제적 성과를 중심으로 -)

  • Social enterprise has moved from periphery to take center stage. Social enterprises are a truly global phenomenon and associated with solving social problems with business approaches. While the numbers of social enterprises have grown and their impact is likely to continue to do so, it would be dangerous to assume that the revolutionary momentum will automatically continue, because social enterprise faced sustainability challenges. This study collected the data from directory of Korean Social Enterprise to conduct a quantitative research on the growth of social enterprise in South Korea. This study conducted longitudinal analysis of 491 social enterprise certified between 2007 and 2010, of economic performance with financial index and social impact with employment structure. Though global financial crisis, Korean social enterprises show that there is a considerable increase in all of quantitative and qualitative aspects. Korean social enterprises have provided meaningful work to those normally excluded from the labour market and tried to raise their life of working. In the future, Korean social enterprises should find a way to balance social and financial performance and ensure the sustainability of the business.

Study on the Relation between Social Value Realization Efforts and Performances of Social Enterprises - Focudsing on Mediating Effect of External Support Environment (사회적기업의 사회적 가치실현노력이 기업성과에 미치는 영향 - 외부지원환경 매개 효과를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze relationship between effect on social value realization efforts and company performances, focusing on the mediating effect of external-support environment. Data for the analysis is collected from open data source from Social Enterprise Promotion Agency. The results of the analysis are, first the social value realization efforts has positive effect on both social and economic outcome of the social enterprises. External-support environment has influence on both social performance and social value realization efforts. Additional analysis to test mediation effect of external-support environment were carried out by statistical software package, Process for SPSS4.0. Mediation effect could be found between social realization efforts and social performances, however, no evidence could be found on economic performance. The result indicates that social value realization efforts as a social capital has influence on social performance mediated by external-support environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the impact of self-leadership by worker in social enterprises and profit enterprise. For this purpose, 36 social enterprises and commercial enterprises in Chungcheongnam-do and 303 workers were surveyed. Main results are as follows. First, the workers in social enterprises and profit enterprises have many different characteristics. The workers who work in social enterprise is more women, less educated and were the elderly than profit enterprise. This is the reason that social enterprises are employing women, elderly and vulnerable groups by the government's social work support policy. Second, self leadership and all organizational Performance areas in social enterprises is higher than that of profit companies. Third, self-leadership in social enterprise and profit enterprise has positive effect on organizational performance. Therefore, in order to improve the organizational performance of social enterprises must share organizational vision and goals for the workers. It will increase the organizational competitiveness. Empirical Analysis of Socio-Economic Performance of Social Enterprises: Focusing on social enterprise in Seoul (사회적기업의 사회적·경제적 성과 실증분석 - 서울지역 사회적기업을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this present study is to empirically analyze the variables affecting socio-economic performance of social enterprises. For this purpose of 107 enterprises, located in Seoul, was performed under the hypothesis that the authentication properties (authentication type, authentication year) of social enterprises will affect the socio-economic performance. The analysis showed that first; authentication type among the characteristics of social enterprises showed significant effects on the social performance. Second, authentication year among the characteristics of social enterprises showed significant effects on the economic performances. In addition, since the job-creating type showed higher social performance, it would be desirable to raise the certification rate of this type in the future. The analysis implied that longer the years of accreditation, the greater positive effects on the socio-economic performance of social enterprises was shown. Therefore, the present study suggest the need to diversify support policies according to the number of authentication years in order to secure sustainability by maximizing the socio-economic performance of social enterprise because the monolithic support is not very effective for continued growth and self-reliance of social enterprises.

  • 우리나라의 중소기업은 국가경제의 근간을 이루고 있으며, 고용창출, 기술혁신, 산업의 다양성 등 여러 측면에서 국민경제 발전에 있어서 실질적인 원동력이 되고 있다. 이로 인해 중소기업은 기술혁신을 통해서 혁신역량을 확보하는 것이 더욱더 중요해졌으며, 내부자원의 한계로 인해 경영에 필요한 다양한 정보와 여러 가지 도움들을 외부와의 협업과 다양한 네트워크 활동을 통해 습득해 나가고 있다. 더 나아가서 시장기회를 포착하고 조직 성장을 위한 수단들을 모색하기 위한 수단으로 기업가 정신 또한 필요하다. 본 연구는 ICT중소기업의 기업성과에 영향을 미치는 요인에 있어 기업가 정신과 기업의 혁신역량이 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 했으며, 사회적 자본이 기업가 정신과 기업성과 간의 조절역할을 하는지 살펴보고자 1,200개 기업을 대상으로 실증 분석을 했다. 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기업가 정신은 기업성과에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인됐으며, 사회적 자본 변수가 기업가 정신과 기업성과 간의 조절효과가 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 혁신 역량이 기업성과에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 또한 사회적 자본 변수가 조절효과를 한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해, 기업가 정신이 기업성과에 영향을 미치는데 있어서 사회적 자본이 중요한 역할을 하고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study on the Factors Effecting Performance and Correlation in Social Enterprises (사회적기업의 성과 영향요인과 상관관계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze factors which influence social and economic performance of social enterprises, and to examine the correlation of factors affecting social and economic performance. This study was conducted following the hypothesis that the organizational characteristics(organizational type, certification type, certification year, social service supply type, and external grants) of social enterprises affect social and economic performance, and that significant correlation exists between social and economic performance. This study collected the disclosure materials of 219 social enterprises certified between 2007- 2014 from the directory of the Korean Social Enterprise Promotion Agency. The study results are as follows: First, organizational characteristics affect social performance(i.e. jobs for the vulnerable classes). In addition, certification year and external grants had a positive effect on social performance. Second, the organizational characteristics affect the economic performance(i.e. sales), and certification year and external grants had a positive effect on economic performance. However, organizational type had a negative effect on the economic performance(i.e. sales). Third, analysis found a positive correlation of factors affecting social and economic performance. This study suggests the need to diversify support policies according to the number of authentication years in order to promote self-reliance and sustainability by maximizing the social and economic performance of social enterprises.

A Study on the Factors Affecting the Performance of Social Ventures: Focusing on the Moderating Effects of Government Support (소셜벤처 성과 영향 요인에 관한 실증적 연구: 정부지원의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This paper attempts to understand the factors that affect the social and economic performance of social venture and thereby obtain practical and useful implications. We analyze how such factors as social entrepreneurship, management competency, and organizational culture affect economic and social performance of 185 social venture in korea. In addition, we examine how government support may moderate the relationship of each variable. We find that innovativeness, proactiveness, risk-taking and social value orientation positively affect economic performance, whereas innovativeness, proactiveness and social value orientation can enhance social performance. We also learn that social entrepreneur's competency can have a direct effect on the enterprise's profitability, while organizational culture seems to affect performance of the companies only slightly. Government support is shown moderate effect of social entrepreneurship, competency, and organizational culture on the company's performance. Interestingly, our findings indicate that raising competency of social enterprise can be more effective than government support for enhancing performance of companies. Lastly, social venture's economic performance is shown to affect its social performance.

학습지향성이 기업성과에 미치는 영향: 디지털리터러시의 조절효과를 중심으로

  • 본 논문은 스마트 사회에 요구되는 핵심역량으로서 디지털리터러시를 제안하고 선행연구에서 다루었던 학습지향성을 자원기반관점의 핵심역량으로 채택하여 기업성과와의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 중소기업창업지원법상의 기술기반 창업기업 200개 업체를 표본으로 하여 연구를 진행하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학습지향성이 기업성과에 유의적인 정(+)의 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설은 채택되었다. 둘째, 디지털리터러시가 기업성과에 유의적인 정(+)의 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설은 채택되었다. 셋째, 디지털리터러시가 높을수록 기업성과에 대한 학습지향성의 영향력이 커질 것이라는 가설은 채택되었다. 본 논문의 이론적 실무적 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스마트 사회의 등장으로 창업 및 기업성과에 대한 디지털리터러시의 영향이 중요해지고 있음에도 불구하고 디지털리터러시와 기업성과 간의 관계에 대한 실증 연구가 많이 부족하였다. 본 연구는 스마트 사회의 창업성공요인으로 디지털리터러시를 제안하여 학습지향성과 기업성과 간의 관계에 대한 디지털리터러시의 조절효과 및 디지털리터러시와 기업성과 간의 관계를 실증적으로 분석함으로써 디지털리터러시 관련 연구의 확산에 기여하고 있다. 둘째, 자원기반관점과 핵심역량이론에 따라 창업기업의 핵심역량으로서 학습지향성과 디지털리터러시를 채택하고 기업성과와의 관련성을 도출함으로써 두 가지 변수 모두 혁신형 창업을 활성화할 수 있는 스마트 사회의 핵심역량임을 확인하였다. 셋째, 연구방법론 측면에서 본 연구는 기업성과의 하위변수로 재무성과와 비재무성과 이외에 지적재산권의 출원이나 등록 등을 통해 측정되는 연구개발성과를 추가함으로써 기술기반 창업기업의 성장성 및 미래관점을 반영하고 있다.

The Effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation, Market Orientation, and Corporate Social Responsibility on Performance in Social Enterprise (기업가지향성, 시장지향성, 기업의 사회적 책임이 사회적 기업의 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing social performance of entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation, and CSR activities. This model tests various theoretical research hypotheses relating to social enterprise, entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation, and CSR activities. Entrepreneurial orientation have been classified as innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking. And CSR activities have been classified as community responsibility and environmental responsibility. The proposed model is analyzed to target social entrepreneurs. Valid 115 questionnaires have been collected within three months of 2013. Smart Partial Least Square(PLS) 2.0 have been utilized for deriving the study results. The result of hypothesis testing are as follows. First, innovativeness and proactiveness positively influence market orientation. But risk-taking does not influence market orientation. Second, market orientation positively influence community responsibility and environmental responsibility. Finally, community responsibility and environmental responsibility positively influence social performance. The results of this study will provide various implications to improve social performance and entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation, and CSR activities.

Effects of Ethical Management on Organizational Performance in Social Enterprise (사회적기업의 윤리경영이 조직성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of business ethics and ethical leadership on business performance and social performance. For this purpose, we surveyed 173 social enterprise workers in Chungnam and Sejong area. The main results are as follows. Among the sub - factors of ethical management of social enterprise, ethical leadership has a statistically significant effect on social performance and social performance of social enterprise. In other words, as employees' perceptions of ethical leadership of social enterprise managers increase, business performance and social performance increase. In addition, the results of the study show that the work performance of the workers in the social enterprise providing social service is increased. The results were the same as the effects of ethical management on corporate performance in general commercial enterprises. The results of this study confirm the necessity of strengthening social entrepreneurship which has been emphasized in social enterprise. In order to introduce ethical management into social enterprises, the concept of ethical management suitable for social enterprise and application plan should be prepared.
