  • The purpose of this study is to present a method to assess the landscape aesthetic value of Bukhansan National Park using geotagged images that have been shared on social media sites. The method presented in this study consisted mainly of collecting geotagged image data, identifying landscape images, and analyzing the cumulative visibility by applying a target probability index. Ramblr is an application that supports outdoor activities with many users in Korea, from which a total of 110,954 geotagged images for Bukhansan National Park were collected and used to assess the landscape aesthetics. The collected geotagged images were interpreted using the Google Vision API, and were subsequently were divided into 11 landscape image types and 9 non-landscape image types through cluster analysis. As a result of analyzing the landscape types of Bukhansan National Park based on the extracted landscape images, landscape types related to topographical characteristics, such as peaks and mountain ranges, accounted for the largest portion, and forest landscapes, foliage landscapes, and waterscapes were also commonly found as major landscape types. In the derived landscape aesthetic value map, the higher the elevation and slope, the higher the overall landscape aesthetic value, according to the proportion and characteristics of these major landscape types. However, high landscape aesthetic values were also confirmed in some areas of lowlands with gentle slopes. In addition, the Bukhansan area was evaluated to have higher landscape aesthetics than the Dobongsan area. Despite the high elevation and slope, the Dobongsan area had a relatively low landscape aesthetic value. This shows that the aesthetic value of the landscape is strongly related not only to the physical environment but also to the recreational activities of visitors who are viewing the scenery. In this way, the landscape aesthetics assessment using the cumulative visibility of geotagged images is expected to be useful for planning and managing the landscape of Bukhansan National Park in the future, through allowing the geographical understanding of the landscape values based on people's perceptions and the identification of the regional deviations.

  • In this study, it was witnessed that a variety of tests are implemented in a type of convergence of multimedia such as photos, sounds, and videos as well as letters and drawings, components of existing traditional comics as comics are digitalized and are converted to various devices. Therefore, we studied the concept of multimedia comics as a basis of this study by judging that new barometer to comics lies in convergence with such multimedia. After recognizing components of multimedia comics which are currently emerging, we categorized them into three types depending on how to use these elements. First, convergence type webtoon has a very similar format with existing vertical scrolling webtoon and has characteristics that background & effects sounds are added to emphasize the features of webtoon, or photos or videos are inserted in part, and there is no function to control these elements; Second, motion comic, a medium format between comic and animation has a characteristic that sound, video, paging are auto-played like watching animation but it keeps the format of comics within one frame; Third, interactive comic has a characteristic that effects sound, motion, and story are made by active participation of viewers. As a result of analyzing comics which having above multimedia characteristics, its implications are as followings: First, multimedia elements should be used depending on genre, age, and media; Second, high level of control technology considering the features of comic-viewers is needed. In other words, in continuously evolving media environments, comic contents being proper to targets and use purposes of viewers should be developed. For this, multimedia elements of comics should be used in order that comic-viewers can have active & interactive communication with contents.

  • This study examines history, usage, and spatial change of Cheoldo Park and its significance in the park planning in the Japanese colonial period focusing on the concept of a sports park. Cheoldo Park was verified as the first newly planned park built during the Japanese colonial period and continuously appeared in the official planning documents with different names and areas as a new planned park. This suggest that changes of Cheoldo Park reveal the important conceptual transition in the park planning. Activities in the park were understood by analyzing news paper articles and pictures, while spatial changes of the park were analyzed through maps and aerial photos. Changes in a park planning process were examined through analyzing the planning documents and maps. Cheoldo Park was opened in 1915 as a supporting facility of the Yongsan rail company residence complex. As Cheoldo Park became one of the urban parks of Gyeongseong in 1925, it had functioned as one of the main sports complexes of Gyeongseong. Although a sports park was suggested as a new type of urban park in the 1930's park plan, the programmatic aspect of a sports park was not distinctly defined yet. Cheoldo Park was not regarded as a sports park in the 1930's park plan. As a sports park was distinguished from other types of urban parks pro grammatically in the 1930s, the city tried to transform Cheoldo Park into a sports park. In the park plan of 1940, with major spatial expansion, Cheoldo Park became Ichon Park to be a main large park and sports park of Gyeongseong. Cheoldo Park contributed to the establishing a new direction of modern park planning, shifting from planning focus on quantitative improvement to qualitative improvement of urban parks. It also provided a realistic model to implement the park plans to overcome various limitations of the Japanese colonial period.

  • This study identified the dynamic process of sandbar and vegetation distribution of the sandbar on the Tan-cheon River. The study area is located in the lower reaches of the Tan-cheon River that has been managed as an Ecosystem Reserve Area since 2002. For the study, the geomorphological process was analyzed through mapping analysis using a satellite image followed by analysis of the vegetation distribution through an on-site survey. The major findings were as follows : First, In the fluvial geomorphic process, various kinds of sandbars were developed in 1990s, the morphologic characteristics changing continuously. Second, In the distribution of vegetation on the sandbar, the sandbar shore was covered with bare sand substrate or intermittent annual vegetation because of the periodic fluctuation of the water-level due to intensive disturbances. Third, In the relationship between the sandbar formation and vegetation, four types of sandbars were classified: channel-shore stable bar, channel-shore unstable bar, mid-channel stable bar and mid-channel unstable bar, according to the fluvial disturbance & vegetation process. The study verifies that the vegetation distribution is reciprocally related to the geomorphological process. Accordingly, it is meaningful in the selection of plant species and the planting area of the sand bar. However, it is limited to the planting guidelines on river restoration projects. More diverse on-site experimental studies should be conducted.

  • In this paper, the property of influent water and variations of removal efficiencies in each unit processes were studied based on the experiment data from the advanced water treatment plant in a city of Korea. The microbial species in the biological activated carbon(BAC) after backwashing of activated carbon filtration tank(ACFT) were also identified. The property and the removal efficiencies were evaluated by considering 8-9 items. The variations of 4 items were investigated from the influent and effluent of ACFT. SEM recording were conducted on BAC samples before and after backwashing. And the existence of attached microorganisms were identified through HPC(Heterotrophic Plate Counter) investigation. For the property of influent water, the concentrations of most items were maintained in the constant ranges, some items had seasonal properties. For the removal efficiencies, there were some items showing similar monthly-pattern and increasing with time, other items decreasing at the ozone contactor. Through these investigations, it was possible to distinguish the target items, which were removed by the advanced processes. The existence of microorganisms in ACFT could be predicted based on the variation curve of NH$_3$-N, and this fact were proved by SEM and HPC.

  • The purposee of this study is to investigate the correlation between the horizontal and vertical discrepancy of facial bones and the horizontal and vertical position of glenoid fossa. For this study, the cephalograms were taken to the adults over 18 of age(96 men and 108women). The cephalograms were divided into three groups according to the ANB angle(below 0.5 degree, 0.5 to 4.0 degree and above 38 degree), and they were divided into three groups according to the SN-MP angle(below 30 degree, 30 to 38 degree and above 38 degree). The following conclusions were obtained : 1. In the horizontal discrepancy of facial bone(ANB), the horiontal position of glenoid fossa(X) was anterior position as the order of Class II, Class I, Cias III. 2. The horizontal position of glenoid fossa(X) showed the significant correlation with ANB and SNB, but not with SNA. 3. In the vertical discrepancy of facial bone(SN-MP), thee less anglee was the greater vertical position of glenoid fossa (X) and was followed by the medium and high angle in order. 4. The vertical position of glenoid fossa(Y) showed thhat the SN-FH was the most significant correlation, and it was followed as the order of SN-FH, SN-MP and SN-OP angle. 5. There was the samllest length of anterior cranial base in the Class III malocclusion.

  • The characteristics of the rock cleavage in Jurassic Geochang granite were analysed using the distribution of microcrack lengths and spacings. The phases of distribution of the above lengths and spacings were derived from the enlarged photomicrographs(${\times}6.7$) of the thin section. First, the length and spacing-cumulative diagrams for the six directions of rock cleavages were arranged in increasing order($H2{\rightarrow}R1$) on the density(${\rho}$) of microcrack length. The various parameters were extracted through the combination of the above two types of diagrams. The discrimination factors representing the three quarrying planes and three rock cleavages were acquired through the mutual contrast between the values of parameters. The analysis results of the research are summarized as follows. The evaluation for the six directions of rock cleavages was performed using the parameters such as (1) intersection angle(${\alpha}-{\beta}$) and (2) exponent difference(${\lambda}_S-{\lambda}_L$) between two exponential straight lines related to spacing(${\alpha}$, ${\lambda}_S$) and length(${\beta}$, ${\lambda}_L$). The values of parameters(1 and 2) are in order of H(hardway, (H1 + H2)/2) < G(grain, (G1 + G2)/2) < R(rift, (R1 + R2)/2). On the contrary, the values of the above two parameters for three planes are in order of R < G < H. Meanwhile, the direction of convergence between two exponential straight lines was derived. The above direction is compliant to arrangement of the line os' centering around the line ol. The above two lines converge in the direction of the Y-axis when the line ol and line os' occupy the upper region on the left and the lower region on the right, respectively(R-type). On the contrary, the above two lines converge in the direction of the X-axis when the order of arrangement between line ol and line os' is reversed(H-type). Especially, the positive(+) or negative(-) value of intersection angle(${\alpha}-{\beta}$) is determined by the arrangement of two vertical lines. This type of correlation analysis is useful for evaluating the relative strength of rock cleavage and discriminating three quarrying planes.

  • The change of the vertical dimension is of fundamental importance to the orthodontist. However, the choice between the two methods of treatment, extraction versus nonextraction, is not clear. It is not verified that the extraction method decreases vertical dimension, or nonextraction methods result in an increase in vertical dimension. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of vertical dimension of face after the orthodontic treatment with standard edgewise technique, and to compare them in relation to facial types and bicuspid extraction. The subjects consisted of 165 orthodontic patients (77 of adolescents, 88 of adults), and was divided into vertical nonextraction (VN) group, vertical extraction (VE) group, horizontal nonextraction (HN) group, horizontal extraction (HE) group. Pre-and Post-treatment cephalograms were taken with standard method, traced, and digitized for each subject. The comparison of the measurements were statistically executed with Student's t-test. The results were as follows : 1. The facial height and molar height were increased after orthodontic treatment in the all groups. 2. No significant difference was found in the facial height change between the vertical and horizontal groups. 3. No significant difference was found in the facial height change between the extraction and nonextraction groups. 4. As the upper molars were extruded in adolescents group and lower molars were extruded in adults group, lower anterior facial height (LAFH) was increased. 5. None of the pretreatment variables correlates to the change of lower anterior facial height (LAFH).

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to find changes in the occlusal plane related to different vertical facial patterns and suggest treatment goals and conduct possible treatment mechanisms. Methods: 60 adult patients (28 males, 32 females) who had been diagnosed as Class 1 skeletal malocclusion and treated without extraction were selected. Patients were divided into three groups; short face type (group 1), average face type (group 2) and long face type (group 3), using the data on normal occlusion of Korean adults. Results: The results were achieved by analyzing cephalometric tracings of each group at pre-treatment, end-treatment and post-treatment (about 1 year recall check). The inclination of the occlusion plane tends to gradually increase as the face becomes longer In group 1, COP-X, FOP-X, L6/L1, MP-L6 were significantly decreased, and L1-FOP was significantly increased during the retention period (T3-T2). Group 2 showed no significant change, In group 3, FOP-X was significantly increased during the retention period (T3-T2). During the retention period, FOP-X showed significant change among each group, especially between group 1 and group 3. Conclusion: These results suggest that changes of occlusal plane inclination according to facial vertical pattern need to be considered during the retention period for intrusion, extrusion, and incisor overbite.
