  • Recently, significant tries appeared in the spatial design field were appreciated as tries to find crossing between space formation and discourse. This study is to find spatial clues from Gilles Deleuze, the modern philosopher's literature where he developed his discourse analyzing paintings of Francis Bacon, and reveal common characteristics with the contemporary spatial design. According to the analysis of Deleuze, Bacon's paintings are separated into frame-aplat, shape-figure, and contour-track. From these three elements, I extracted spatially analyzing languages of 'occurrence of shape-accident', 'space of track-sense', and 'interaction of aplat-background.' Then with these analyzing languages, I analyzed latest works of Rem Koolhaas. Deleuze Space Theory confirmed in works of Rem Koolhaas is the application of accident-focused occurred between the user and space, the space that induces accident, and differentiation between the user and space or space and site. As a result, I could confirm the common characteristic that both modern discourse and spatial design are understood as 'difference' from life and movement.

  • This study measured the vitality of Pinus densiflora and Ginko biloba and analyzed the differences of vitality levels among trees based on artificial management. Research has shown that the mean value of cambial electrical resistance (CER) on Pinus densiflora was $14.9K{\Omega}$(between $8.5{\sim}37.5K{\Omega}$), and for Ginko biloba it was $13.5K{\Omega}$ (between 6.4 and $40.5K{\Omega}$). For the purpose of artificial management, over 50% of trees were covered up with soil and about 40% of trees were not protected by fence to enable growth spaces. It was seen that the CER of trees covered up with soil was significantly higher than that of trees which were not covered up with soil. These results indicate that it is necessary to remove the soil covering for effective management of monumental trees.

  • A cultural landscape results from a combination of human activities for resource-use and the response of nature to such artificial interference. Nature provides resources necessary for human life on the Earth in terms of his survival as well as living. Humanbeing has developed civilization using the benefits that nature provides. In the past, a harmonious relationship between mankind and nature had ensured sustainability of resource-use for human. We can find such facts from the existence of cultural landscape. However, rapid economic growth and a development-oriented logic caused from such socio-economic change led to the environmental crises and the depletion of various resources at global level. In the perspective of preparation for such problems, we investigated the background for establishment, function, and value of cultural landscapes, in which a dynamic equilibrium exists between a supply of natural resources and human needs. Furthermore, we discussed a new economic model including ecological consideration, a strategy for ecological management of environment, and a framework for transmission of traditional culture to new generations on the basis of a cultural landscape regime.

  • When biology as science was fast developing in the West, Korea remained isolated and stayed with traditional biology. This was only followed by western collectors who brought the specimens with them to their home country, their publications including almost 3,000 species (duplication allowed) during 1843-1924. The Journal of Chosen Natural History Society(1924-1944) published 318 papers by 91 authors wherein animal systematics papers predominated with 224 (70.4%) and basic taxonomy of description , list and faunal studies enumerated 201 among others . Even though the number of Korea authors was limited to only seven as compared to 83 Japanese majority two Koreans ranked third and ifth in number of publication. Those Koreans trained by Japanese scholars as their assistants, however, put the corner stone with several Koreans from Japan, upon which direct introuction of western biology to Korea was made possible after World War II.

  • The plasma levels of 23 free amino acids in both the umbilical circulation (umbilical vein and artery) and the maternal circulation (antecubital vein, uterine vein and iliac artery ) of 34 pregnant women were measured at delivery by the cesarean section. Each amino acid with the exception of glutamate was found to be in higher concentration in the fetal blood and the cord plasma characterized by hyperaminoacidemia with a marked increase of the lysine and ornithine levels. The linear relationships found between the amino acids concentrations of iliac artery and those of umbilical vein suggest three transport groups across the placental membrane One group consists of neutral amino acids whose slopes are equal to one and the other two groups are characterized by their slopes higher and lower than unity respectivly. This division into three groups is tentatively explained by the result of a dynamic equilibrium between active transport towards the fetus and diffusion back towards the maternal circulation.

  • Owing to the complexity of shapes and elements, some difficulties are found in the modeling and sharing phases in a project at the earlier design stages. This paper extends the boundaries by suggesting the data interoperability between 3D modeling software, McNeel Rhino 3D and BIM system, and Autodesk® Revit® Architecture. The main research methodology is to link the architectural form data in the NURBS supporting the 3DM format, especially for integrating surface properties into the mass family template of Revit. This algorithm-driven interoperability approach using visual programming, such as Dynamo in conjunction with Autodesk®, can be applicable in a theoretical part and also a practical use-case. This paper summarizes these results as sequence guidelines and project template recommendations suggesting an efficient design process to interoperate geometric data with the BIM system to manipulate and control the regular and curved form of office buildings.
