  • ㈜코엔텍은 울산지역을 대표하는 산업폐기물 처리업체다. 이 사업장은 지난 2002년 소각폐열을 재활용해 남아도는 스팀을 인근 업체에 공급함으로써 수익을 벌어들이는 특수한 형태의 ESCO사업을 실시했다. 스팀공급사업을 통해 한해 벌어들이는 순수입이 약 16억원에 이른다. 이같은 사업의 시행이 가능했던 것은 지자체의 적극적인 지원과 코엔텍의 확고한 시행의지, 그리고 SK의 축적된 기술노하우가 결합했기 때문으로 풀이되고 있다.

State and Prospects of Organic Waste Composting in Korea (유기성 폐기물의 자원화 가능성 및 퇴비 이용 전망 평가)

  • Generation and recycling potential of organic waste in Korea were estimated. Status of organic waste composting and compost utilization also were surveyed to promote the recycling of organic waste. From 1994 to 1997, generation of garbage decreased gradually while recycling rate increased due to positive governmental strategy. During the same period, livestock waste increased 11.2%. Municipal wastewater sludge was generated 3,500 ton/day which was 0.03% of wastewater treated in 1996. The energy Potential of industrial organic waste was estimated to 288 million TOE which was 1.75% of the nationwide first energy consumption in 1996. Recycling of industrial sludge was low to 31%, while recycling of animal waste, plant scraps, and wasted paper were relatively high over 50%. Industrial sludge should be recycled more as it was the most part of industrial organic waste. Conventional composting materials were mainly livestock waste, food processing waste, fishery waste, sawdust, and nightsoil. Garbage and sludge have been composted recently. 420,000 tons of compost in 1996 were produced by 288 makers, the most of which were utilized in agriculture. It was suggested that separated collection, compost standard, and quality management should be provided to promote the composting of organic waste.

  • 환경부에서 발표한 2001년도 사업장 배출시설계 폐기물 발생현황을 보면 소각에 의한 처리량이 1995년도에 5,691톤/일에서 2001년도에 7,875톤/일로 꾸준히 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다(환경부 2001). 이러한 산업폐기물 소각장에서 발생하는 유해오염물질은 매우 다양하다. 그 중 최근 사회적 이슈로 떠오르는 것이 악취이다. 악취는 황화수소ㆍ메르캅탄류 아민류 등 기타 자극성 있는 기체상 물질이 사람의 후각을 자극하여 불쾌감과 혐오감을 주는 냄새로, 주로 인체 위해성 보다는 정신적ㆍ심리적 피해를 끼치는 감각공해이다(환경부, 2000).   • 본 연구는 사업장에서 발생하는 폐기물의 고형연료 제조에 관한 것이다. 고형연료제품 생산을 위해 대부분의 제조 회사는 발열량이 높고, 성형하기가 쉬운 필름류 플라스틱을 많이 사용하고 있다. 이에 반해 본 연구에서는 폐합성수지, 폐지, 폐목재, 폐타이어 등 다양한 폐기물을 이용하여 고형연료 제조 가능성을 확인해 보았다.

Content and leaching characteristics of non-regulated hazardous substances in waste from the paint industry (국내 도료공정 발생 폐기물 중 미규제 중금속류의 배출특성)

  • This study was performed to investigate the contents and leaching characteristics of hazardous wastes from the paint industry. In order to establish a hazardous waste list, samples from industrial discharge have been analyzed for 8 non-regulated inorganic hazardous substances (i.e., Sb, Ni, F, V, Ba, Zn, Be, Se). In more detail, hazardous waste samples from a total of 64 workplaces, e.g. manufacture, formulation, supply and use (MFSU) of coatings, adhesives, sealants and printing inks processing, have been chosen and analyzed. Contents and leaching tests for inorganic metal species in samples show that the non-regulated hazardous substances satisfy all the criteria, while quantitative analyses reveal that some samples of the discharged wastes exceeded the criteria proposed by NIER (National Instituted of Environmental Research). In conclusion, we expect the outcome of this study to align the classification system of hazardous waste management in South Korea with international legislations, and consequently contribute to reduce environmental pollution as well as health risks by toxic wastes.

  • 코로나19 의 여파로 생활 폐기물은 급속도로 늘어나는 반면 재활용 사업장의 여건은 개선되지 않고 있어 재활용 산업의 인력난 해결의 필요성이 떠오르고 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 딥러닝 모델을 활용하여 재활용 폐기물을 분류하는 방법을 제시한다. 딥러닝 모델은 최신 객체 탐지 모델인 YOLOv5를 사용하고, 객체 탐지 성능을 향상시키기 위해 실제 환경에서 수집된 학습용 데이터를 직접 라벨링하여 사용한다. 실험 결과 종류별 평균 0.69의 mAP50 스코어를 기록하였으며 이를 통해 딥러닝 모델을 활용하여 재활용 폐기물을 효율적으로 분류하는 것이 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • This study was performed to develop an analytical method in specified wastes for preventing the environmental pollution from hazardous wastes. Few analytical methods were developed using the waste standard reference materials of sludge, waste oil, bottom ash, etc. which contain As, CN, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Hg compounds. The pre-treatment method was considered by whether or not the synchronous analysis is possible. Waste samples obtained from the 34 representative facilities, which are emitting the hazardous substances, were analyzed.

  • According to the statistical data of the Ministry of Environment, 47million tons of construction waste were generated, and 96.7% of them was recycled in 2005. However, the recycled products seem to be remained under low quality. Because mixed demolition and construction waste, so called DC Waste, including concrete, brick, plaster, lumber, plastics building materials, paper and some dirt and stone, is very variable and difficult to estimate its exact composition, it is regarded as having little or no value to the construction industry. 'The Research group on recycling of construction waste' was started by the Housing & Urban Research Institute(KNHC), which is sponsored as a large scale national project by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. This research group intends to establish recycling system through planing, processing, developing practical technology, and eventually contribute to save natural resource and to vitalize the industry. In this paper an overview of DC waste management and recycling technology is given in some detail. Particularly, "recycling law of construction waste" and recent research trends on recycling of construction waste are discussed.

A Study on Characteristics of Airborne Asbestos Concentrations at Demolition Sites and Surrounding Areas of Asbestos Containing Buildings in Seoul (서울시내 건축물 석면해체·제거 사업장 및 주변에서의 공기 중 석면농도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study is purposed to measure airborne asbestos concentrations at demolition sites and surrounding areas of asbestos containing buildings in Seoul and examine whether the measurement results correspond with allowable exhaust standard for asbestos of the Asbestos Safety Control Act. The airborne asbestos concentrations for 37 sites were below the detection limit ($7fiber/mm^2$) in 101 (35%) out of 288 samples. The whole average airborne asbestos concentration in 37 sites was $0.003{\pm}0.002f/cc$(max 0.0013 f/cc) and almost the whole airborne asbestos concentrations were satisfied with allowable exhaust standard for asbestos, 0.01 f/cc, of the Asbestos Safety Control Act. So possibility of asbestos exposure is not yet a major concern at current levels for sites demolished of asbestos containing buildings in Seoul. Looking at each sampling point, the average airborne asbestos concentrations in boundary line of site, entrance of sanitation, around the workplace (in), around the workplace (out), negative pressure units, storage area for waste, outlet for waste and residential area of residents were respectively $0.002{\pm}0.002f/cc$, $0.004{\pm}0.002f/cc$, $0.004{\pm}0.002f/cc$, $0.004{\pm}0.002f/cc$, $0.004{\pm}0.002f/cc$, $0.005{\pm}0.004f/cc$, $0.005{\pm}0.003f/cc$ and $0.003{\pm}0.002f/cc$. As a result, all sampling points of study were satisfied with allowable exhaust standard for asbestos, 0.01 f/cc, of the Asbestos Safety Control Act.
