  • In Mobile IPv6, a handover latency is an important issue. To reduce the handover latency, mipshop working group in IETF has studied the fast handover(FMIPv6) which creates and verifies a new care-of address(NCoA) in advance before a layer 2 handover resulting in reduced handover latency. Even in FMIPv6, the NCoA must be registered in a home agent(HA). This registration still creates a significant amount of delay. To reduce registration latency, we propose a tentative and early binding update(TEBU) scheme that the NCoA is registered in the HA in advance during the layer 2 handover based on FMIPv6. We use cost analysis for the performance evaluation. As a result, we found that the TEBU scheme guarantees lower handover latency than FMIPv6 as much as approximately 21%.

  • The development of multimedia applications followed by development of high-speed networks has improved the performance of mobile devices with high transfer speed broadband. Mobile internet access has made possible seamless indoor and outdoor mobile multicast services. Multicasting services are used to support efficient group communications. However, mobile multicasting services have two constraints: tunnel convergence and handover latency. Many protocols and handover methods have been proposed to address these problems. The inter-LMA optimized handover model for multicasting services has previously been proposed for PMIPv6-based networks. The proposed model removes the tunnel convergence issue and reduces router processing costs. It also makes possible the performance of fast handover operations with adaptive transmission mechanisms. In addition, the proposed scheme exhibits low packet delivery costs and handover latency in comparison with existing schemes, and ensures fast handover when moving the inter-LMA domain

  • This paper proposes a secure and efficient handover authentication protocol in VANET supporting fast mobility. Although the existing schemes commonly use the hash function or XOR operation to be suitable for a light-weight mobile, it does not support the security feature such as PBS. To solve this security problem, another protocol utilizing the CGA technology is proposed but it is vulnerable to the DoS attack due to a number of exponent operations. The proposed protocol using a light-weight Diffie-Hellman provides security features and performs a reduced number of exponential operation at the MN than the existing scheme.

  • Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) represents the strength of the received signal at the front end of analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) input. RSSI value can be used for deciding the status of channel at the receiver. In this paper, the usage of RSSI in handover is studied using the practical measurement data. We first measure RSSI in 5.9GHz frequency band which is commonly used in wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system. i.e., vehicular communications. Then, to implement a fast handover, the usability of RSSI data is analyzed based on the measured data. We also apply handover in practical highway environments.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient seamless handover protocol in NEMO environment. Yokoda et al 4. proposed fast handover method with collaboration of access routers in local network and Teraoka et al. 1 showed fast handover method with collaboration of layers in mobile network. These methods can delay the time of overall binding update and increase packets loss when link of router is unstable because they transport packets through only one path or link of router. And they don't also mention redirection method of packets in their protocol in case of unstable link state of routers. The proposed protocol can execute fast binding update and reduce packets loss with collaboration of routers in mobile network.

  • Multicast service will be required to be an important form of communication without interruption to the delivery of multicast service in mobile networks increasing MNs. In this paper, we review current status of PMIPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6) multicast listener support being standardized in the IETF and point out limitations of the current approach and we proposed a fast multicast handover procedure in inter domain PMIPv6 network of network-based mobility management. The proposed Fast multicast handover procedure in inter domain optimizes multicast management by using the context of the MNs. We evaluate the proposed fast multicast handover procedure compared to the based one through the developed analytical models and confirm that introduced fast multicast handover procedure provides the reduced service interruption time and total network overhead compared to the based one during handovers.

  • As the demand on ubiquitous communication increases, global roaming and vertical handover will be prevailing in the near future. Since this environment is accompanied by the frequent handovers at remote sites, a scalable and fast authentication becomes prerequisite for ubiquitous communication. In this paper, we suggest a framework for scalable and fast authentication, using hierarchical caching based on general trust relationship among domains. At the end, we show that the proposed scheme achieves reduced authentication delay and network overhead through an analytic method with fluid flow model.

  • The existing protocols proposed in network mobility (NEMO) environment can require many computational costs and can bring about a delay of binding update. To solve these problems, in this paper we propose an authentication protocol supporting secure seamless handover in NEMO environment. The proposed protocol can handle quickly mutual authentication between a mobile router (MR) and an access router (AR), which uses group key among ARs and a master key (MK) issuing from key issuing server (KIS) for reducing the time of binding update as much as possible. In performance, the proposed protocol can process quickly binding update with little computational cost comparison with the existing binding update protocols and it results in robustness against existing attacks.
