Implementation of Air Pollutant Monitoring System using UAV with Automatic Navigation Flight

  • In this paper, we propose a system for monitoring air pollutants such as fine dust using an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation. The existing air quality management system used a method of collecting information through a fixed sensor box or through a measurement sensor of a drone using a control device. This has disadvantages in that additional procedures for data collection and transmission must be performed in a limited space and for monitoring. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a GPS module for location information and a PMS7003 module for fine dust measurement are embedded in an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation through flight information designation, and the collected information is stored in the SD module, and after the flight is completed, press the transmit button. It configures a system of one-stop structure that is stored in a remote database through a smartphone app connected via Bluetooth. In addition, an HTML5-based web monitoring page for real-time monitoring is configured and provided to interested users. The results of this study can be utilized in an environmental monitoring system through an unmanned aerial vehicle, and in the future, various pollutants measuring sensors such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide will be added to develop it into a total environmental control system.

Risk Analysis of Aircraft Operations in Seoul TMA Based on DAA Well Clear Metrics using Recorded ADS-B Data (ADS-B 데이터를 이용한 서울 TMA에서의 DAA Well Clear 기반 위험도 분석)

  • Seoul terminal maneuvering area (TMA) that includes Incheon International Airport (ICN) and Gimpo International Airport is a very congested airspace with around 1,000 daily flights and the airspace blocked at the boundary between Incheon flight information region (FIR) and Pyongyang FIR. Consequently, with frequency radar vectorings, separation assurance in this airspace is complicated thus resulting in higher controller workload. In this paper, the conflict and collision risks in Seoul TMA are analyzed using recorded ADS-B data for past three years. Using the recorded trajectories, original flight plan procesures and routes are reconstructed and the risks are quantified using detect and avoid well clear (DWC) metric that is developed for large unmanned aircraft system. The region west of ICN was found to be the highest risk area regardless of the runway directions. In addition, merge and crossing points between procedures displayed relatively high risks.

  • In response to the recent surge in aviation demand, major airports and aviation authorities continue to make efforts to formulate arrival and approach procedures that take into account efficient aircraft separation, noise and environmental issues of carbon (CO2) emissions. In order to ensure efficient traffic control and environmental issues, as a result, a new concept Trombone, Point Merge, etc. have been introduced and widely used in the domestic airspace. However, these new concept procedures which do not properly reflect the characteristics of the aircraft operation performance and the FMS vertical descent guidance hinder flight efficiency as well as bring in turn negative factors such as level-off flight and the use of drag device at the busiest phase of the flight descent operation, like the Continuous Descent Operation (CDO). Accordingly, throughout modification the current Standard Terminal Arrival Route (STAR) and Instrument Approach Procedure(IAP) that reflect the aircraft descent performance and the FMS guidance, the flight operation safety and efficiency is expected to be improved eventually. We herewith analyze and propose the way of improving flight efficiency in the arrival operation procedure by supplementary modification which consequently contribute to the aviation industry international competitiveness.

COTS Based Air Data Recording System for SmartUAV (상용 기성품에 기반한 스마트무인기 탑재자료저장장치)

  • Air Data Recording System (ADRS) is the flight data recorder for the SmartUAV development. ADRS of the low cost designed for the SmartUAV has been developed and tested through the ground test. ADRS is the reconstructing data acquisition system and can be programmed automation controller. This paper focuses on the design aspects of the hardware and software. The hardware aspects of the ADRS include details about the hardware configurations for the interfaces with the Digital Flight Control Computer(DFCC) and sensors, components modifications. The software section describes the ADRS Operating System(OS) and data flow for archived files. Finally, ADRS-based results of the SmartUAV that include the Iron-bird test, system interface test and ground test are presented.

  • LOSA는 Line Operations Safety Audit(항공사 운항안전 감사)의 약자이며 기존의 적발 위주의 기존 Line Audit제도와 달리 조종사의 자발적 참여와 철저한 비밀을 유지하며, 처벌 금지 약속을 통하여 참여자가 평소 습관대로 비행할 수 있게 한다. 훈련된 감사관이 이를 소정의 절차서에 의거 조종석에서 관찰하여 실제의 안전취약 및 위협요소, Error를 포착해서 수집하고 텍사스대학 인적요인 연구소에서 분석하여 최종보고서를 작성하여 제도를 개선하는 안전프로그램이다. 제도와 방안을 개선하는 신개념의 선진 운항감사제도로서 안전관리시스템의 대표적인 비행안전 프로그램으로 통상 3${\sim}$4년을 주기로 실시한다. ICAO, IATA, FAA 및 IFALPA 실행 권고사항으로 현재 약30여개의 항공사가 실시하였다. LOSA는 2009년1월부터 ICAO부속서 6에 의거하여 항공사에서 실행해야 되는 SMS(안전관리 시스템)의 가장 효율적인 Hazard 식별 및 위험 관리도구 중의 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 안전관리시스템의 효과적 도구인 LOSA를 설명하고 항공사내 실행방법을 소개하는데 있다.

  • 위성의 비행소프트웨어는 위성이 주어진 임무를 수행할 수 있도록 위성을 제어하는 것으로 지상으로부터의 원격 명령을 받아 처리하고 원격측정 데이터를 지상으로 송신하는 기능과 자세 결정 및 제어, 전력 제어, 열 제어, 탑재체 관리 등의 기능을 수행한다. 본 논문은 다목적실용위성 2호의 비행소프트웨어에서 원격측정 데이터를 저장하고 지상으로 전송하는 기능을 수행하는 MMD (Mass Memory and Downlink Management) 소프트웨어의 설계 및 구현 내용과 시험절차, 방법, 시험결과 등에 대해서 서술하였다.

  • International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has recommended the adoption of performance-based navigation (PBN), which utilizes global navigation satellite system (GNSS). As a part of efforts to adopt PBN in South Korea, preparations have been made to implement GNSS. In Oct. 2014, Korea augmentation satellite system (KASS) was officially launched for development. A set of navigation devices need to be on-board for an airplane to utilize GNSS. GNSS navigation devices are used for different phases of flights through en-route, terminal, departure, approach and a wide variety of specification standards have been proposed for GNSS navigation. In this paper, we investigate the many proposed standards for GNSS navigation devices and their interfaces. This paper can be useful for designing procedures and flight test used in KASS implementation.

  • Human powered aircraft: the aim is to fly only by human power, features many challenging issues. Contrary to the general aircraft operated by an engine, human powered aircraft, that manoeuvres by lower power, requires additional consideration about weight, material, aerodynamical and structural analysis. Since this aircraft flies at a low speed, low Reynolds number flight will need to be taken into account. In this paper, SNU (Seoul National University) Human Powered Aircraft was designed by comparing it with the existing human power aircrafts, as well as by using theoretical analysis that obtains the design parameters. Also, this paper discuss about the manufacturing process using composite material for real human powered aircraft.

  • Maintainability in engineering terms means ease of maintenance / management of the product. Aircraft automatic test equipment (ATE) is heavily influenced by the design changes of the unit under test(UUT) since the test procedure is developed according to the function / performance characteristics of the UUT. Moreover, if the integrated ATE is an environment that checks more than one UUT, it is not easy to maintain the ATE for the UUT design changes. Developers should be able to flexibly cope with the change of development staff by selecting an easy and clear development method to improve the maintainability of ATE. It is also necessary to limit the area affected by the UUT design change to a specific range to minimize the area to be modified. In this paper, we propose ATE development method which focuses on maintenance improvement based on the aircraft ATE development process.

Intelligent 3-D Obstacle Avoidance Algorithm for Autonomous Control of Underwater Flight Vehicle (수중비행체의 자율제어를 위한 지능형 3-D 장애물회피 알고리즘)

  • In real system application, the 3-D obstacle avoidance system for the autonomous control of the underwater flight vehicle (UFV) operates with the following problems: the sonar offers the range/bearing information of obstacles in a local detection area, it requires the system that has reduced acoustic noise and power consumption in terms of the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), it has the UFV operation constraints such as maximum pitch and depth, and it requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, an intelligent 3-D obstacle avoidance algorithm using the evolution strategy (ES) and the fuzzy logic controller (FLC), is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the 3-D obstacle avoidance of UFV is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively solves the problems in the real system application.
