Performance Analysis of Multitone FH/MFSK System with Stage Address Coding in Subband and Nonsegmented Frequency Band (서브밴드 및 넌세그먼트 주파수대에서 어드레스 코딩을 사용한 FH / MFSK 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • The number of bits per message and the number of tones in the frequency-hopping sequence are determined by the available bandwidth and the data rate of each user. These parameters in turn determine the tone duration which strongly influences the vulnerability of the system to transmission distortions. In this paper, an address code which is assigned to each individual user was employed in order to reduce the collisions or hit. Also the frequency band is divided into several subbands and each user transmits multitone frequency per subband per chip. And the new system which is to increase the duration of each tone by increasing the total number of system frequencies that has been proposed. It is found that an optimum value bit, tone, number of frequencies per chirp can improve the err performance. This flexibility slightly increases maximum efficiecy and makes the the system less vulnerable to multipath delay. So, It is found that as the nuber of user increased 50%, the efficiency as a tuncion of the bandwidth to user'rate ratio improve 20%.

Link Adaptation Method of the Block Coded Modulation for UWB-IR (무선광대역통신을 위한 블록부호화방식의 링크 적응 기법)

  • In wireless communications environments, a link adaptation technique that selects the proper rate from among several transmission rates is adopted to cope with variations in channel status. In block coded modulation, the frame time and/or the block length can be adjusted to the channel status. A smaller frame time can cause inter-frame interference (IFI), however, a larger frame time can reduce the data rate. Therefore, frame time is the design factor decided by a tradeoff between performance and the data rate. This paper presents a method to determine the frame time based on the processing gain for the channel model, CM1~CM4, recommended by IEEE 802.15a. Also, a link adaptation technique for block coded modulation is proposed for efficient communications by varying the frame time and the block length. Through simulation, link adaptation can be carried out with a step size of 2~5 nsec in a frame time range of 14~ 50 nsec for channel models CM1~CM4.

  • This paper presents a novel multiple orthogonal subcarrier modulation based UHF band RFID communication system. In tag-to-reader communication, the demonstration system can deliver 1.6 Mbps through four subcarriers. To improve data rate while suppressing increase in circuit complexity, tag employs square-waves as the subcarriers and uses individual load modulators for each subcarrier. By using multiple orthogonal subcarrier based modulation, proposed communication system can be operated under existing UHF band RFID regulation. In reader, an OFDM demodulator is used. Since the tag backscatters the reader's CW carrier, carrier frequency offset compensation is not necessary in reader demodulator. Experimental results show that the demonstration system achieves a bit error rate of 10-5 at an Eb/N0 of 10.8 dB.

FGPA Design and SoC Implementation for Wireless PAN Applications (무선 PAN 응용을 위한 FPGA 설계 및 SoC)

  • In this paper, we design the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) of the KOINONIA WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network), and implement the SoC (System on Chip). We use the redundant bits to make a constant-amplitude in a modulator part. Additionally, the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) performance of the demodulator is improved by using the redundant bits in decoding steps. The four-million FPGA of the KOINONIA WPAN can be operated at 44MHz frequency. The PER (Packet Error Rate) of the designed FPGA with RF (Radio Frequency) module is below 1% at the -86dB MIPLS (Minimum Input Power Level Sensitivity), and the SNR is about 13dB. The SoC is implemented by using Hynix 0.25um CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process. The size of the SoC is $6.52mm{\times}6.92mm$.

  • This paper presents an analytical evaluation of a hybrid direct-sequence/slow frequencyhopped code division multiple-access (DS/SFH-CDMA) system employing noncoherent M-ary frequency shift keying(MFSK) modulation in a multiple Nakagami fading (m) environment. Multipath interference (MPI) and multi-access interference (MAI) is taken into account and the spectral efficiency is calculated for uncoded as well as channel coding systems. Predetection multipath maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity in conjunction with interleaved channel coding (Hamming(7,4) code, BCH(15, 7) code and RS (7, 4), (15, 9)) code ) is employed for improving the bit error rate (BER) performance. The BER of noncoherent hybrid system is obtained using a Gaussian interference approximation.

  • In this paper, the performances of wireless asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cell transmission in mobile work are analyzed. We adopt 16Star QAM as amodulation technique in wireless channel and considered Reed-Solomon, convolutional, and concatenated coding to improve the error rate performances, and also proposed the Partial Concatenated Coding (PCC) technique as UEP(unequal error protection) code for efficient transmission of ATM cell in the air interface. We consider Doppler's effect, Rician fading, and diversity technique of maximal-ratio combining (MRC) for mobile channel model. For performance measure, we analyze bit error rate, ATM cell loss probability, ATM cell error probability, and network performances of ATM cell transmission delay and throughput. The numerical results show that the adoption of PCC is a prospective way for the evolution of future wireless ATM network on mobile environment.

  • In this paper, we propose an edge side-lobe suppressor (ESS) for the uplink of OFDMA systems, which mitigates the interference introduced by different frequency offsets between a desired user and the other users. We evaluate the proposed ESS scheme by measuring average signal to interference ratio (SIR) and average bit error rate (BER). The simulation results confirm that the proposed ESS scheme improves system performance by approximately 5∼10 dB SIR as compared to conventional OFDMA systems. Because the additional operations for the proposed scheme can be performed by a real-valued look-up table, the implementation of the ESS hardly requires increasing transmitter and receiver complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose technical and structural solutions for various problems in two-way digital communication services in CATV networks by actual field tests. The two-way digital communication services include VOD, video conferencing, distance learning, interactive game and internet service. We investigate the quality of T -1 level 0.544 Mbps) upstream digital signal while varying the number of subscribers in three different cells in accordance with ITU-T G.821. Based on this investigation, several ways to cope with the problems identified are suggested.

  • The S-band Transponder for telemetry and command of small satellite is designed and fabricated as prototype model using COTS(Commercial Off-The-Shelf) components. QPSK modulator and demodulator of transponder is implemented by using FPGA for system extension. The transponder consists of RF Front End, RF Modulator, RF Demodulator, and MODEM. The measured results of fabricated transponder show BER of less than $1.1{\times}10^{-6}$ at -105 dBm input power.

  • This paper presents an iterative single-frequency continuous-wave signal-based I/Q regeneration method for improving image-rejection performance of multi-port junction-based direct receivers (MPDRs). This paper analyzes I/Q regeneration in MPDRs as I/Q mismatch compensation for direct conversion receivers. Based on the analysis, this paper evaluates the accuracy of I/Q regeneration in terms of the image-rejection ratio (IRR). The proposed method improves the IRR performance more than 20 dB compared to existing I/Q regeneration methods. Simulation results show that MPDRs using the proposed method can achieve an IRR of more than 70 dB, and that the bit error rate performances are almost the same as those of conventional coherent demodulators, even in fading channels.
