The purpose of this study was to measure the average tooth size of Korean with normal occlusion. According to the study, the average tooth ratios between the upper and lower teeth which could assure the proper ovebite, overjet and good interdigitation were calculated. The normal occluson sample of this study consisted of 43 Korean male adults and 51 Korean female adults. Among them, 22 Korean male adults and 51 Korean female adults were from KAO(Korean Association of Orthodontists), 21 Korean male adults were from Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University. The results from this study were as follows : 1 The average tooth size of Korean Norm classified by male and female was measured. 2. The average tooth size of Korean male adults with normal occlusion was significantly larger than that of Korean female adults except upper and lower first molars. (p<0.05) 3. The tooth ratio which could Predict the proper overbite and overjet in anterior teeth and proper occlusion in posterior teeth was calculated. 1) Sum of inciosrs = 4:2.97 2) Neff's anterior coefficient = 1.22 3) Bolton's anterior ratio = 78.29%, overall ratio = 91.14% 4. A positive correlation was observed between the sum of lower anterior incisors and the sum of unilateral canine and premolars In each jaw. Based this correlation, the regression equation was made which could Predict the sum of unerupted unilateral canine and premolars in mired dentition. 1) Sum of unilateral unerupted upper canine and premolars' width = 10.435018 + 0.513346 ${\times}$ (sum or lower 4 incisors' width) 2) Sum of unilateral unerupted lower canine and premolars' width = 9.654002 + 0.502565 ${\times}$ (sum of lower 4 incisors' width)

Ectopic eruption means the eruption of the tooth in an abnormal position due to multiple factors, which found most frequently in maxillary fist permanent molars, mandibular lateral incisors and maxillary permanent canines. Ectopic eruption of the maxillary first permanent molar occurs when the molar erupts with a more mesial angulation than normal, and locks itself in an atypical resorption on the distobuccal root of the second primary molar. The maxillary first permanent molar plays important roles for mastication and occlusion, so ectopically erupted maxillary first permanent molars should be relocated into proper position. Treatment options are separation by insertion of the brass wire or elastic rings, preparation of distal aspect of the maxillary second primary molar, using fixed or removable appliance with finger spring, and placement of space maintainer or space regainer after extraction of the maxillary second primary molar. We report three cases treated of ectopically erupted maxillary first permanent molar by re-setting of stainless steel crowns, placement of brass wire and using active plate. We could find out distal movement of maxillary first permanent molars into proper position and normal occlusion.

There are many reasons for tooth discoloration. An increase in the bilirubin level may cause tooth discolorations. Such cases are rare, but most involve tooth discoloration with a greenish hue. The purpose of this case report is to describe green discoloration of the primary dentition in the presence of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. 2 boys aged 16 and 22-months presented with chief complaints of erupting teeth of abnormal color. Their primary teeth exhibited a greenish discoloration along enamel hypoplasia. Both patients were born prematurely with a low birth weight and had been diagnosed with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Systematic diseases can affect the hard tissue of teeth during their formation and result in changes in tooth color. Periodic follow-ups are required for establishing a normal dental condition and meeting the esthetic needs of patients. A pediatric dentist may be the first person to observe patients with discoloration in their primary dentition. In such cases the dentist can deduce the systematic disease responsible for this discoloration.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of nerves in the dental pulp of early extracted primary teeth, normal exfoliated primary teeth, partially-erupted, nonfunctional, premolars, and erupted, functional, premolars. Numbers of sample were 10 teeth in each group. The distribution of nerves in the dental pulp were investigated by means of immunohisto chemistry for detection of neurofilament protein(NFP). The results were as follows: The early extracted primary teeth exhibited patterns of innervation similar to those observed for young permanent teeth. The plexiform arrangement of fibers was not evident in the primary teeth. Most nerves appear to terminate about the odontoblasts. As primary teeth began to undergo root resorption, degenerative changes such as vesicles and fragmentation appear in the nerves. The quantity of neural tissue also decreased. In teeth in which the roots were almost completely resorbed only a small number of nerves remain. There was a decrease in the number of terminal branches in the pulp of the partially erupted, nonfunctional, premolars and those present reached the pulpo-odontoblastic border. The nerve terminals in the pulp of the erupted, functional, premolars were traced to the dentinal tubule and a few nerve fibers formed loops in the predentin.

We decided among extraction, orthodontic traction and autotransplantation such as direction and position of unerupted tooth, degree of developing root apex, eruption space, being of supernumerary tooth or odontoma or cyst when tooth impacted. Autotransplantation is considered when orthodontic traction is unrealistic or when tooth movement can absorb root of neighbor tooth. The prognosis for successful autotransplantation is dependent on a number of factors such as root development, surgical technique, patient's age, endodontic treatment, time and type of splinting, preservation of periodontal ligament and storage medium. Especially when severe osseous defect is being, bone graft considered for reducing of mobility and for assisting recovery. In all cases, chief complaint is unerupted tooth and various causing factors were supernumerary, odontoma, ectopia and so on. Before autotransplantation, space regaining was done if needed and demineralized freezed dried bone and autogenous bone graft was done when there is severe osseous defect by extraction of supernumerary tooth or odontoma. Splinting was removed after 2-3weeks At 3-4weeks after autotransplantation, endodontic treatment was decided. At follow up check, normal recovery was done and there was no inflammatory or replacement root resorption in periapical radiograph.

The Dentigerous cyst is reported to be one of the most common lesions of the jaw. It is derived from reduced enamel epithelium that surrounds the crown of an unerupted tooth. Dentigerous cysts usually remains asymptomatic and presents as well-circumscribed radiolucencies surrounding the crown of a tooth. Most dentigerous cysts are treated by surgical enucleation or marsupialization of the cyst to allow eruption of the permanent tooth. The nasopalatine duct cysts derived from the islands of epithelium remaining after closure of the embryonic nasopalatine duct. The cyst presents as a well-circumscribed oval or heart-shaped radiolucency located in the midline of the anterior maxilla between the roots of the central incisors. Treatment is by surgical enucleation, employing a palatal approach. This report present two cases. One case was diagnosed with dentigerous cyst and treated by enucleation. 12 Months later, affected second premolar was erupted normally. The other case was diagnosed with nasopalation duct cyst. Histological examination of the enucleated cyst confirmed a nasopalatine duct cyst. There was no recurrence during follow up period.

Noonan syndrome is characterized by distinctive facial features, short stature, and congenital heart disease. It is a congenital genetic disorder with a prevalence of between 1/1,000 and 1/2,500 in both genders. An 11-year-old boy with Noonan syndrome visited the hospital with an ectopically positioned tooth. A pulmonary stenosis was diagnosed and his growth and development were delayed. In many cases of this diseases there is obvious hemostasis, which he was not experiencing. His facial appearance showed characteristic features of Noonan syndrome. The patient showed a dental class II relationship, labioversion of the upper anterior teeth, and a shallow overbite. Radiographic examination revealed that the upper right canine was ectopically positioned, which led to root resorption of the upper right lateral incisor. A lateral cephalometric radiograph revealed a craniofacial pattern that was within normal limits. Surgical opening and button attachment on the impacted upper right canine were performed and traction was applied on the impacted tooth using a removable appliance. This patient was mildly affected by Noonan syndrome and showed some dental problems. However, few studies have reported the oral characteristics of Noonan syndrome despite its high incidence. Thus, this case report describes the oral features and management of Noonan syndrome.

Odontoma is the most common benign odontogenic tumors, and have been defined as mixed odontogenic tumor composed of epithelial and mesenchymal cells. Odontoma is believed to be hamartomatous rather than neoplastic in nature. The classification by WHO divides odontoma into 2 groups such as complex odontoma and compound odontoma. Compound odontoma comprises dental tissues, resembling the morphology of a tooth and has predilection for the anterior maxilla. In contrast, complex odontoma has unorganized mass, not resembling the normal tooth and has predilection for the posterior mandible. Odontoma is almost asymptomatic, so it is usually found on routine radiographic examination. Common presenting symptom is impacted or unerupted permanent teeth and retained primary teeth, but coexistent odontoma and congenital missing of permanent teeth is a very rare condition. The recommended treatment for an odontoma is conservative surgical excision, with care taken to remove the surrounding soft tissue. This report presents 2 patients with compound odontoma of the mandible who have congenital missing of the permanent teeth.

Garre's osteomyelitis is associated with bacterial infection and bone necrosis resulting from obstruction of blood supply. The most common cause for Garre's osteomyelitis is odontogenic infection that originates from periodontal tissue or dental pulp. Subperiosteal abscess may also cause Garre's osteomyelitis in the progress of the infection. Mandible is more often affected than maxilla, most commonly in the permanent first molar region of mandible. Clinically, it results in a hard swelling over the jaw, producing facial asymmetry. Meanwhile, radiograph shows a characteristic feature of irregular pulpal cavity, showing new periosteal proliferation located in successive layers to the condensed cortical bone on stimulated site. The treatment method for Garre's osteomyelitis are removal of the infection source, root canal treatment, antibiotic medication, and incision and drainage. This report presents a case of Garre's osteomyelitis under 15 years old. The patient was successfully treated by antibiotic medication accompanied with root canal treatment. Since the symptom of pediatric patients is less severe than adult, careful diagnosis with history taking and clinical examination is necessary. Furthermore long-term follow-up examination is needed to prevent recurrence even after the symptom disapears.
