  • The antioxidant activities of 6 solvent extracts of Artemisia capillaris were evaluated in a dintroflurobenzen (DNFB)-induced allergic mouse model. In vitro antioxidant activities were determined using DPPH and the FRAP test. Methanol (DPPH: 85.87%, FRAP: 1.772) and $dH_2O$ (DPPH: 60.69%, FRAP: 3.185) extracts showed the highest antioxidant activities compared with other solvents (ethyl acetate 41.81%, 0.407, hexane 8.37%, 0.328, etc.). In addition, we tested atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions in mice treated with DNFB. The methanol extract of A. capillaris on the AD-like skin lesions in DNFB-induced atopy inhibited ear thickness increases (47%) and the skin lesions (45%) compared with a positive control (methanol). The results suggest that they have potential as natural antioxidants and allergy-improving substances and that they may be valuable materials in the functional food or cosmeceutical industry.

  • The midpalatal suture area has some advantages for supporting miniscrews : it has no specific anatomical structure, it is composed of thick cortical bone, and covered with attached gingiva. So it is suitable area for inserting miniscrews. However, the midpalatal suture area appears thinner when seen in ceph. As a result, Clinicians can misunderstand that inserting miniscrews cause the problem, both the risk of perforation and the decrease of stability. The purpose of this article is measuring the vertical bone thickness of the midpalatal suture area for inserting miniscrews. The total of 25patient (male : 13, female : 12), who are in their twenties, were taken CT. The vertical bone thickness of the midpalatal suture area was measures from the transverse section of CT. As a result, We reached a conclusion from the differences of each area. It is as follows: 1. There is no significant difference between the thickness of male group and that of female group. 2. In coronal section, Bone thickness becomes thinner from the midpalatal suture to Left & Right side, in sagittal section, Bone thickness becomes thinner from incisive foramen to PNS. 3. The area that is within 3mm of left and right from the midpalatal suture area transversely and within 25mm backward from the incisive foramen sagittaly is enough for inserting miniscrews.

  • Preparative and kinetic photochemical reactions of several benzanilides were studied. Several substituted benzanilides were synthesized by acylation of substituted anilines with substituted benzoyl chlorides. While benzanilide gave a photo-Fries type reaction product, 2-chlorobenzaniline, 2-bromobenzanilide, and 2-methoxybenzanilide gave a photocyclization reaction product, phenanthridone. Since 8-chlorophenanthridone was obtained from 2,2'-dichlorobenzanilide, the carbonyl phenyl is the excited site. Quantum yield of photocyclization of 2-chlorobenzanilide, 2'-chlorobenzanilide, and 2-methoxybenzanilide were obtained. 2-Chlorobenzanilide was photocyclized effectively and 2'-chlorobenzanilide ineffectively. Since the oxygen present in the reaction medium retarded the photocyclization reaction of 2-chlorobenzanilide, the triplet state of 2-chlorobenzanilide is involved. The mechanism of the photocyclization of 2-chlorobenzanilide is suggested: $\pi-complex$ between carbonyl phenyl and N-phenyl was formed from the triplet state of 2-chlorobenzanilide; neighbour phenyl (N-phenyl) assists for leaving of chlorine from carbonyl phenyl to make an intermediate, cyclized conjugated radical, because electron donating group on the N-phenyl ring accelerated the reaction; hydrogen detachment from the intermediate is obviously not a rate determined step because there was no isotope effect on the rate of photocyclization. The photocyclization reaction rate of 2-methoxybenzanilide was faster in the presence of oxygen than in the absence of oxygen. Thus, the singlet excited state of 2-methoxybenzanilide is involved in the reaction. Probably, the intermediate, methoxyhydro-phenanthridone is oxidized by oxygen in the medium to give phenanthridone.

  • Ionic dissociation rates of $\alpha$-chlorobenzyl ethyl ether in each solvent of toluene-$d_8$ and carbon tetrachloride were measured by the method of dynamic NMR spectroscopy. The spin system of these 1H NMR spectra was $AB_3$. The theoretical spectrum was calculated by computer simulation of dynamic NMR spectra, which agreed very well with observed spectra. From this computer simulation, the ionic dissociation rate constant k was obtained, and by Eyring plot with it, slope and intercept length was gained, from which kinetic parameters were calculated. The easiness of ionic dissociation depended upon solvent polarity. Activation enthalpy was 4.7 kcal/mole in toluene-$d_8$, 10.7 kcal/mole in carbon tetrachloride, and activation entropy was -35. 8 e.u. in toluene-$d_8$, -14.4 e.u. in carbon tetrachloride. It was understood that though the ${\Delta}H^{neq}$ value was small, this ionic dissociation had an easier procession in nonpolar solvents with increasing temperatures. Considering that the ionic dissociation could be thought as the first step of $S_N1$ mechanism, attention might be paid to the results that the value of ${\Delta}S^{neq}$ had a large negative value in comparison with a small ${\Delta}H^{neq}$.

  • GaN-based nitride semiconductors have attracted considerable attention in high-brightness light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs) covering from green to ultraviolet spectral range. LED and LD heterostructures are usually grown on (0001)-$Al_2O_3$. The large lattice mismatch between $Al_2O_3$ substrates and the GaN layers leads to a high density of defects(dislocations and stacking faults). Moreover, Ga and N atoms are arranged along the polar [0001] crystallographic direction, which leads to spontaneous polarization. In addition, in the InGaN/GaN MQWs heterostructures, stress applied along the same axis can also give rise to piezoelectric polarization. The total polarization, which is the sum of spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations, is aligned along the [0001] direction of the wurtzite heterostructures. The change in the total polarization across the heterolayers results in high interface charge densities and spatial separation of the electron and hole wave functions, redshifting the photoluminescence peak and decreasing the peak intensity. The effect of polarization charges in the GaN-based heterostructures can be eliminated by growing along the non-polar [$11\bar{2}0$] (a-axis) or [$1\bar{1}00$] (m-axis) orientation instead of thecommonly used polar [0001] (c-axis). For non-polar GaN growth on non-polar substrates, the GaN films have high density of planar defects (basal stacking fault BSFs, prismatic stacking fault PSFs), because the SFs are formed on the basal plane (c-plane) due to their low formation energy. A significant reduction in defect density was recently achieved by applying blocking layer such as SiN, AlN, and AlGaN in non-polar GaN. In this work, we were performed systematic studies of the defects in the nonpolar GaN by conventional and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

  • The mackerel meat was packed in square No 3B can, and thermally processed at $121.1^{\circ}C$ to reach Fo values of 5, 10 and 15. On heating at $121.1^{\circ}C$, pH and volatile basic nitrogen content increased markedly, and histamine was detected at concentrations of 3.98 mg/100g in raw meat, 10.45 mg/100g in Fo 5 sample, 7.54 mg/100g in Fo 15 sample, respectively. Total free amino acid content of mackerel meat decreased with increasing Fo values. Little changes were observed in free amino acid composition, but histidine decreased significantly during heat treatment. Degradation of inosine monophosphate was proceeded during preparation and thermal processing of samples, and trimethylamine oxide changed to trimethylamine almost equivalently. In changes of lipid components, peroxide and carbonyl values were increased markedly during heat treatment. When the sample was heated at the Fo values of 5 or higher, content of non-polar lipid(NL) was increased while that of polar lipid(PL) was decreased, and percentages of polyenes such as 22 : 6 decreased with increasing Fo values. The decomposition of polyunsaturated fatty acids in PL were much greater than those in total lipid and NL.

  • Anticarcinogen is one of the major strategies for cancer control. It is well established that dietary factors play an important role in modulating the development of certain types of human cancer. We investiagted the anticarcinogenic effects of Sedum sarmentosum Bunge (SS) with Platycodon grandiflorum A. extracts on HepG2, HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines. By the MTT assay, among the five partition layers of methanol extract of SS (SSM), the ethylether partition layer of SS (SSMEE) showed the strongest cytotoxic effects on all cell lines. We also investigated the synergistic effect of the combination of SS and PG extracts on growth inhibition of the HepG2, HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines compared to the effects of five partition layers of SSM. Combination of SS and PG extracts significantly increased cytotoxic effects on all cell lines. Therefore, we were able to conclude that ethylether partition layer, SSMEE might have potentially useful cytotoxic materials on all the human cancer cells which we used. And we could suggest that the combination of SS with PG enhanced the anticarcinogenic effect on HepG2, HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines. We also determined QR activity of partition layers of SSM, among them, SSMEE on HepG2 cells showed the highest QR activity, 3.21 as control value of 1.0.

  • Daenjang, a traditional Korean fermented soybean paste, was prepared by the fermentation with Aspergillus oryzae for 3 days, and then ripened with salt addition(13%) for 45 days. The changes of composition and fraction pattern of lipid in Daenjang during ripening period were studied. The total lipid of initial Daenjang(0 day ripening) consisted of 91.8% of neutral lipid, 7.1% of phospholipid and 1.1% of glycolipid, and minor changes of the composition were observed during the ripening. The contents of free fatty acid and esterified sterol in nonpolar lipid fraction were increased, however, no significant changes in polar lipid fraction were observed from the Daenjang in ripening. Linoleic, oleic, palmitic acids were the major fatty acyl moiety in the fractions of total lipid, triglyceride and free fatty acid, respectively. No significant changes in fatty acid compositions of the fractions were noted, although the saturated fatty acyl moiety of the fraction were increased a little during Daenjang ripening.

  • This dissertation is to seek new valuable possibility of the 100 best Chinese films on storytelling in Chinese films as considering about content development of Korea and China's Collaborative film production and extension, that being magnified as a new content for variety of Korean film production. The moment to the Korean wave is getting cold in Japan, Korean wave is attempt to receive attention in new field through China by various image field with Korean drama's appeal. However, film content fall short of our expectation than media content, even if supporting much various attempts with Korea and China's Collaborative film production content. Specially, there are not satisfied films for Korea and China both counties's audience, although Korea and China's Collaborative film production has been produced steadily. The writer studies on stories of Chinese essential 100 films for searching deeply this problem. Among them, in selected 'The 100 Best Chinese Films' by China in 2005, films in 1930's are selected as the first step to study, and this dissertation searches to communicate storytelling's meaning in Chinese films through that time image. This studies what is the point of selected story by China, and there are what kind of worries. This dissertation considers that focused on characters, event and background. Chinese film in 1930's represented life in times through process of play development that is connected with poverty, reality of society, death, tragedy and tragicomedy.
