The Co-Structure of the Thai Legends and the Malay Hikayats (태국 전설과 말레이 히카얏의 공존 구조)

  • 오늘날 태국 남부 국경 부근의 3개주와 말레이 북부의 일부가 포함된 지역은 불교 사회인 태국과 무슬림 사회인 말레이라는 문화적인 차이가 있음에도 불구하고 그 문화적 근원을 찾아 보면 분명히 이전의 타이불교와 말레이 무슬림의 근원을 만나게 된다. 이는 역사적으로나 고고학적으로나 혹은 지방문학에서도 뿌리를 찾을 수 있는데 특별히 이 논문에서는 땀난나컨씨탐마랏(나컨씨탐마랏 신화)과 히카얏 메롱 마하왕싸(메롱 마하왕싸 신화)를 중심으로 불교권 타이와 이슬람권 말레이의 문화적인 면을 고찰해보고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 땀난나컨씨탐마랏(나컨씨탐마랏 신화)와 히카얏 메롱 마하왕싸(메롱 마하왕싸 신화) 속에 나타난 두문화, 즉, 불교권 타이와 이슬람권 말레이의 문화는 동일한 구조를 보이고 있음을 밝히고, 그 구조속에 나타난 지도자의 역할과 그 지역의 발전에 종교가 중요한 요소로 작용하였음을 주장하고 있다. 이러한 주장의 바탕은 Levi-Strauss의 이론으로써 태국 남부의 불교권 타이문화와 말레이 북부의 이슬람권 문화가 얼마나 친밀한 문화적 뿌리를 가지고 있는 지를 알게 한다.

Case Report: Korean Medicine Treatment for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Concurrent with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (당뇨병성 말초신경병증에 병발한 항암화학요법 유발 신경병증의 침구치료 1례)

  • Objectives: This study reports the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy concurrent with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. Case presentation: A 58-year-old male was admitted for hand numbness and foot pain after his sixth chemotherapy. He was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion for 18 days. Symptoms were evaluated with a numeric rating scale (NRS). After 18 days of treatment, his foot pain improved from NRS 4 to NRS 2. His hand numbness disappeared. Conclusion: This study suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion can be used for managing diabetic peripheral neuropathy concurrent with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

  • This study studied the value of the spatial organization of the temple and the form of the garden located in the Seojang area in the southwestern regions of China. The value of the Lama temple was looked into by examining the relationship between Lamaism and Lama temple through the spatial organiz ation, building arrangement, and garden of temples that served as the center of history, culture, and politics of the time in the process of converging Buddhism introduced through China's central districts and India with folk beliefs in Seojang through the poor environment. To this end, the value of the space and garden of the Lama temple was derived through the representative Lama temples, Potala Temple, Norbulingka Temple, and Dazhao Temple. First, due to the unique environment in which ice caps and green areas coexist, the representative Lama temples in Seojang, Potala Temple, Norbulingka Temple, and Dazhao Temple, are widely distributed in the form of leaning against valleys and mountain ranges based on folk beliefs and Buddhism's Jatabuli(自他不二) and mandala. the target sites are largely divided into upper and lower spaces. Second, the target sites are largely divided into upper and lower spaces. Buildings for worship are located in the upper space, and spaces for practice and garden are located in the lower space. A Study on King Sejong's Amicable Consciousness of Confucianism and Buddhism (세종대왕의 유불화해의식에 관한 연구)

  • Confucianism and Buddhism were compatible in the period of Goryeo Dynasty. And then, the rulers worshiped Confucianism and repressed the religious activity of the Buddhist monk in the early years of the Joseon Dynasty. But King Sejong planed to bring reconciliation between Confucianism and Buddhism. Especially on the ceremonies of mourning and sacrificial rituals, he always performed the two religious style. The reason of sticking to his amicable consciousness is as follows. Firstly, he thinks that both the theory of Confucianism and the religious spirit of Buddhism are very important for the building up the foundation of his Dynasty. Secondly, his mind has been of a same faith cure on the incurable disease. Therefor, when the Royal family is taken ill he must pray to Buddha for recovery from the first stage. Thirdly, he regards social conditions to be the most important and respect for man's life and dignity for the purpose of beneficent administration. But Joseon's government line was the anti-Buddhist policy. So, the policy came in the wake of a debate among King Sejong and Confucian government officials. However his harmonious mind was unchanged between Confucianism and Buddhism. After all, in the last phase of his life he was deeply religious on Buddhism. I think that King Sejong's amicable consciousness could make a contribution to overcome religious conflicts and to create a new political cultural form in the modern society

Implementation of Visual Contents on Mandala's Twining Rite (만다라 결연 의식의 시각 콘텐츠 구현)

  • The importance of cultural contents industry is steadily growing owing to the Korean wave etc. and Buddhist cultural contents is a part of the cultural contents. However, the development of Buddhist cultural contents in many ways has left much to be desired. That is because, it is difficult for the public, who is not Buddhist scholar, to understand and take interest in conventional contents on Buddhist books themselves which are digitalized. Also, most contents researches are discussed on the necessity of contents development and just stay in these subjects, but it is insufficient to study a semantic analysis and visualizing contents on Buddhist books. So, in this paper, we analyse mandala's twinning rite in the Buddhist books and implement visual contents on the rite. The mandala is using toohadeokbul in a special way as the abhisinca rite. We analyse concept of the toohadeokbul and implement its visual contents which visualize ideological logic of Buddhism. The implemented contents are able to provide the public with Buddhist cultural experience of the yard. Additional, by trying to visualize descriptive expressions of Buddhist books, this paper could be a precedent for developing visual contents of unlimited data comprised in Buddhist books.

A Case Report on Korean Medical Treatment for a Patient with Chronic Nausea and Vomiting Syndrome (만성 오심 구토 증후군 환자의 한의치료 1례)

  • This study investigated the case of a nineteen-year-old female patient with chronic nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension, who was diagnosed with CNVS and Spleen-Qi deficiency. Subjective symptoms were recorded with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) every morning, and the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) was used on the days of admission and discharge. For eleven days following admission, she took Bojungikki-tang-gagam and received acupuncture and moxibustion therapy. After three days of treatment, her nausea and vomiting ceased, and abdominal distension improved from NRS 3 to 0 after seven days of treatment. The GSRS score for the specific symptoms improved from 3 to 2; however, the total score remained largely unchanged (from 20 to 21). This case suggests that Korean medical treatment may improve CNVS.

A Critical Review of 'Modernity' in Modern Buddhist Studies of Korea (한국 근대불교 연구에서의 '근대성'에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • This article is a reflective study on the 'modern' and 'modernity' in 'Modern Buddhism of Korea' research discourse. First, we raise the issue on how to define and describe the 'modern' in the recent 'Modern Buddhism of Korea' research. We raise some questions about whether there is the concept of "modernity" properly explained and agreed in Buddhist academia of Korea. And we will try to propose its solution. Next, we will briefly review the characteristics of 'modern' and 'modernity' in the flow of history of the West, which have never been discussed in the research discourse of "Modern Buddhist studies of Korea.' We will raise questions about whether it is possible to find a 'modernity' in itself what it is, and is further expected really 'modern' or 'modernity' in Korean conditions on the basis of this review. Finally, this article seeks to reveal what premises must be kept in mind in the 'Modern Buddhist studies of Korea', by critically reviewing researches of "Modern Buddhist studies of Korea".

Case Report of Korean Medicine Treatment for Post-COVID-19 Globus Sensation (COVID-19 감염 이후 발생한 인후부 이물감에 대한 한의치료 증례 1례 보고)

  • Globus sensation is a continuous, intermittent, non-painful sensation of lumps or foreign substances in the throat. It was reported that 13.7% of patients developed globus sensations after COVID-19 infection. A 73-year-old male patient with a globus sensation after a COVID-19 infection was admitted to the ◯◯ Oriental Medicine Hospital and treated with herbal medicine (Banhahubak-tang, Sosiho-tang). Subjective symptoms of globus sensation were measured with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) daily and found to reduce. The effect persisted during his admission. In conclusion, Korean medicine, including Banhahubak-tang, can be effective for patients with globus sensations after COVID-19 infections.
