This is a user study of the public access to the Internet at public libraries in Busan and Kyungnam province. The mainstream of users was identified as a typical 'information rich'. It was found that public libraries were not successful in leading the traditional non-users into the libraries with public access to the Internet in libraries. For users the most attractive feature of the service was the fact that it was given for free, while they were not value the professional guidance of librarians. Upgrade of hardwares and telecommunication infrastructure was at the highest priority of the users want list, Some strategies for the public access to the Internet at public libraries were proposed.

This study aims to investigate the current status of young adult services centering on public libraries in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam, identify problems, and then suggest tasks for service revitalization. The status of young adult services and librarians' perceptions in the 93 public libraries in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam that were registered in the 2021 National Library Statistics System and the Busan Metropolitan City Library Portal was investigated. As a result of the survey, 24% of public libraries have a space for young adult, and if there is dedicated space, it was found that the most number of bookshelves for young adult were installed inside the space. Libraries that provide young adult services accounted for 76% of the total, and the age range of the service targets was set between 13 and 18 years of age. The analysis revealed that it was difficult to provide services due to a combination of problems such as poor use and passive participation by young adult, lack of dedicated space, lack of manpower for program operation, and lack of budget. Nevertheless, most librarians agreed on the need to provide young adult-only spaces and young adult services. The tasks to revitalize young adult services in public libraries was suggested; expand young adult participation in the space creation and service planning/operation stage, create a space dedicated to young adult, diversify the contents of youth volunteer activities, secure the professionalism of the librarian in charge, human resource utilization, and expand public relations for services.

Efforts to establish a joint preservation facility for library materials are being discussed in the regional representative libraries recently, but this is mainly a movement in public libraries. This study aimed to provide a model for a joint preservation facility construction and management especially for the National Universities Library in Busan/Gyeongnam area. For this job, after analyzing the current situation, this study focuses on 1) estimated size of the planned facility calculated by investigating the size and equipment, operation policy, collection quantity and saturation status of participating library archives, 2) strategies for construction, proposed a joint preservation architecture construction management model such as organization and human resources, and standards for transferring materials.

The purpose of this study is to develop the public library programs that support the needs of multicultural families by examining the details of their information needs, focusing on the children's education issues of multicultural families. For this purpose, the data on experiences and needs related to the education of multicultural families' children were collected through in-depth interviews with married immigrant women. The study found the following six types of children's education-related needs of multicultural families: 1) Lack of understanding about the educational system and situation of Korean schools, 2) Their children's needs for language and learning 3) Their children's Bilingual education 4) Educational information for the role of parents, 5) Prejudice and discrimination against their children at school 6) Supporting library awareness and experience of mulitcultural families. Based on these needs, the following programs were suggested: 1) Parent role program for children's education, 2) Children's learning program, 3) Children's language education program, 4) Multicultural understanding education, 5) Library user education and guidance.

This study surveyed the online catalog retrieval systems of the university libraries in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam districts. The types of library materials, and the kinds of access points and retrieval conditions(Boolean logic, methods of index term Identification, and particularities of the retrieval) of these systems are various and different to each other Upon the result of this survey a suggestion for the standardization of online catalog retrieval systems is offered.

This study surveyed the retrieval systems for digital information resources of the university libraries in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam districts and the vendors. Kinds of access points and retrieval conditions (Boolean logic, methods of index term identification, and particularities of the retrieval) of the libraries' systems are various and different to each other. Access points of the vendors' systems are unessentially various and different to each other, but the retrieval conditions are rather elaborated. Upon the result the suggestions for the standardization of digital information retrieval system are offered.

This study is a case study in which collection performance evaluation was attempted using key performance indicators presented by EBSM or collectionHQ, taking three public libraries located in Geumjeong-gu, Busan as examples. Focusing on the collection performance evaluation, which evaluates the performance of the collection, not only the evaluation of individual libraries, but also the differences in the evaluation results of libraries were reviewed. The key performance indicators used are grubby items, dead items, popular author provision, popular subject provision, overstocked subject areas and understocked subject areas. The main analysis results are as follows. First, in the evaluation of the grubby items, the ratio of grubby items out of all items in all three libraries was low. Second, in the case of all dead items, the ratio was high in all three libraries, It exceeded the base value suggested by collectionHQ. Third, the Top 10 popular authors were identified, and there were differences among libraries. Fourth, in the evaluation of provision of popular subject areas, all three libraries had almost no popular subject areas. Fifth, in the evaluation of overstocked subject areas, there was no overstock at Geumsaem Library, but many at Geumjeong Library and Seodong Library. Sixth, in the subject area evaluation of understocked inventory, only Geumsaem Library showed a lack of inventory.

This study attempts to suggest effective strategies for public library services for multicultural polpulation in Busan metro area. Emphasis was put on the perceived problems and strategies of librarians who are in charge of multicultural services in three public libraries in Busan. Specifically, this study surveys major issues, problems, and solutions related to serving multicultural population in public libraries. For this, the study collected data from qualitative interviews with informants and analyzed contents. It is expected that the results of the study will provide multicultural agencies with primary data to restructure the service programs for immigrants in Korean public libraries.

Many researchers and librarians in library and information science area in Korea and Japan claim that Japanese Hongdohoe Library is the first modern public library in Korea. The results of analysis of the study reveal that the claim should be reconsidered because of the following reasons. Firstly, Hongdohoe Library was established in Korea but was established by Japanese. Secondly, the library was established for Japanese in Busan and operated for a long time for the use of Japanese people in Busan. Thirdly, most of the collection of the library were revealed as Japanese materials. Fourthly, the Japanese Hongdohoe which established the library was the organization that supported Japanese militarism before and during the Japanese occupation of Korea.
